This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

I see this is your first posting on Rootsweb, at least under this user name. Your posting was sufficient for this research (most just put in a name with no other information, making common names such as this one difficult to identify). You could have also identified the name of the sister and her death info, if known. That would help to identify if she was or was not alive at the time of his death. If she had already died, the likelihood of his having an obit would be diminished...unless she had family (children/grandchildren) in the area.

There is a listing for him in the Idaho Death Index with the data you provided.

The Daily Nevada State Journal (Reno, NV), April 22, 1893.
Nine miners were cut off from escape by a fire in a shaft of the Butte & Boston Company at Butte, Montana, and all hope of rescuing them is abandoned. The doomed men are Edward Pasco, Richard Andrews, Sam Ravetto, Frank Geerard, RICHARD TREMBATH, Thomas Gray, James Fetto, Antonio Beara and F. Puglis.
--I did a search for some of the others (less common named) and found none of them in the 1900 Census. So, it "appears" none survived. If this is the correct Richard Trembath, he would have had to have survived alone OR the others that I checked died before the 1900 Census.

The 1900 Census for Butte City, Silver Bow Township, MT
Richard Trembath, born Sept 1857 in England, immigrated in 1872, status "Na"-Naturalized, Ore Sorter.
James, son, Sept 1877 in MT
Annie, dau, Dec 1882 in MT
--If this is the correct person, his DOB is about nine years different than the person in the Death Index. Mistakes in both indices are often wrong.
--This is "possibly" the one identified in the news article? Also see below in the family tree information.

The new York Passenger Lists show a Richard Trembath, born about 1848, arriving 21 August 1910 from the port of Southampton, England, on the ship "Philadelphia." He was from Butte City, Montana, age 62. Appears to have been traveling with John Henry Hicks, age 36. Richard lived at 537 N. Franklin, Butte City.

The 1910 Census for Butte Ward 2, Silver Bow
D.F (Dennis Francis ?) Egan, head, born in Iowa to both parents born in England, married 16 years,
Kate, wife, 35?, born in Utah to both parents born in England, mother of 2/2 living
Sylvia, 15 (Married Edward Michael Schaad)
Melvin, 11
Richard Trembath, 63(1846/1847), widower, born in England, immigration "Un"(Unknown, so someone other than he provided the info to the enumerator).

The Butte City Directory, 1902, identified Richard Trembath, miner, living at 537 North Franklin.

Family Trees posted online, show a Richard Trembath, born about 1860 in St. Just-in-Penwith, Cornwall, England, died in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana in 1901 in a mine accident. His father was Hugh Trembath, 1824-1911, mother Amelia Jane Walls, 1825-1908. He had a daughter Annie...this matches the information on the person found in the 1900 census in Butte, apparently another wrong person.
--Be VERY CAREFUL in using posted family trees for information. MANY do not have identified source information. MANY have wrong information. This particular one had four siblings of Richard named Amelia Jane with varied births and deaths.

I don't see anything in your posting that says "his deceased sister lived there." She was "possibly" alive when he went to visit. The other person appears to be reading something into your post that isn't there. It "appears" he was living with his daughter in 1920 and then "might" have moved to live with his sister; or, was in the act of visiting. The publishing of an obituary depends on several things. First there has to be a newspaper publishing in the local area; sometimes obits were/are published in a distant paper IF it is usually read in the area. There has to be enough family/friends in the area for the obit to be read by those knowing the person. The person had to have lived in the area long enough for persons other than his family to know them. The family would have to pay for the obit. Back in 1919, obits were not as popular as today, nor as elaborate. An obit then was more like a death notice today, just the name, date of death, place of funeral; more of an advertisement for the funeral home than an obit. A "true" obit was usually written by a newspaper reporter about the famous, infamous, rich, or those deaths caused by crime or accident (fire, automobile).

I suspect you would find an obit for this person in Montana; but, don't be surprised if one is not found in Idaho.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

I'm hoping to find an obituary for Richard Trembath, who died in Rupert, Idaho on 30 May 1919. He was from Butte and often visited his sister in Rupert, and died there at age 71. His body was taken to Butte.
Birth date: 14 Oct 1848
Birthplace: England

I'm not sure if there would be an obituary for a visitor like that. I assume if there is one, it might appear in the Minidoka News.

Thanks for any assistance.
--Eric
I checked Classmates.com also known as Memory Lane. They do not have a year book for Paul, Idaho for 1929. They have 94 persons listed that attended, but no name is for 1929 or surrounding years.

http://www.classmates.com/places/school/school/37515/m?start...

The current schools in this area are under the Minidoka School District
map: http://www.minidokaschools.org/schools/attendanceZones/
The Paul Zone has the current High School, named Minico High School, which is attended by all students in the area. This school district, #331, is no doubt a consolidation of districts of the past. You could "try" to contact the District, 208-436-4727 for general information. They "might" be able to tell you when the high schools were consolidated, or when a high school in Paul stopped operating. They probably do not have the annual/yearbook. But, also ask if they have a listing of graduates for that year.
--You could try the current Minico High School library 208-436-4721

Here is a working link to the Minidoka Co Historical Society. I visited their website, it doesn't appear they would have any extensive library; museum, yes.
http://www.minidoka.id.us/historical-society/default.htm

The Idaho State Historical Society. The link posted doesn't work and would have only sent you to the 1890 Census. Bottom Line, they don't have the yearbooks as requested:
http://history.idaho.gov/documents/yearbooks-patronview.pdf

There is a number of references to the Rupert High School, nothing for a high school in Paul.
Here is a picture and desciption of the Rupert High School from 1913 (Pg 17), floor plans follow.
http://books.google.com/books?id=6MjNAAAAMAAJ&pg=RA4-PA1...

One reference identified after WWII began, the students in the Rupert high school were approached for help in the fall harvest of 1942. In the next few years, the gave a three week "vacation" so students could help harvest.

There is a reference to a person that had attended Washington Grade School in Paul, Idaho, but attended Heyburn High School in Heyburn, 1933.

Paul had a newspaper, but it appears only published (microfilm data) in 1977. Rupert had several, beginning in 1905.

The 1930 Census showed only 1,297 persons living in Paul (of ANY age). Rupert had 4,846, Heyburn, 1015. Rupert had 618 of school age (14-18), Paul 179 and Heyburn 124

Minidoka County Auditor records, page 53:
http://history.idaho.gov/repositories.pdf

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

Hi,
I did a Google search on Paul Idaho High School and nothing appeared. They do have a junior high and an elementary. I'd look them up and call them first.

Paul doesn't seem to have a genealogy society or historical organization.

I'd contact the Minidoka County Historical Society, minidoka.id.us/historical-society/d... They might have the old year books.

If not, I'd contact the Idaho State Historical Society, idahohistory.net/1890_census.html . Successful Searching!

When you post, it's important to fully identify the person you seek. Post their FULL date of births if you have them, that helps to identify one person from another having the same name. Identify specifically what you seek. If you already have the US Census, or other information, identify that you have it.

Now, bottom line first: I found a Henry Maier in the World War I and World War II draft registrations that was born October 9, 1886. BUT, this might not be the correct person you seek, although this one was in Rupert, North Dakota in 1942/with indications of being also in California. I found a couple that is probably Henry and Christina buried in California; but, you may know if this is correct or not. If this is the correct couple, besides the cemetery research I suggested, you might also attempt to obtain their obituaries in Lodi, California. If you have additional information on Wilhemina Pfaff, you might want to also fully identify her.

The 1920 Census for Melville, Grant County, North Dakota, Renting his land.
Henry Maier, age 33, born in Russia to both parents born in Russia (all spoke German, immigrated in 1906, "Pa" (see below). He is a farmer/General Farming
-Christine, wife, age 27(1892/1893), born in Russia to both parents born in Russia (all spoke German), immigrated 1909. Shown as "Al" for Alien.
-Alma, age 6(1913/1914), born in North Dakota
NOTE:
---The "Pa" is the answer to the question as to citizenship. "Pa" means PAPERS, it means he has submitted his Declaration of Intention to become a citizen. That "Pa" is what the enumerators were told to write for immigrants that were not Naturalized (Na), or had not yet filed their intent (Al for Alien). It does NOT MEAN "pending papers" as the other poster likes to continuously write in error, there are no papers pending...
Henry Maier's naturalization process is noted here:
http://library.ndsu.edu/db/naturalization/

---During this time period there was a MASS of Menonite's that immigrated from Russia. They were originally residents of Germany, but when their religious rights were being infringed, they moved in mass to various communes in Russia. When Russia then began infringing upon their rights, specifically requiring military service, they left in mass to the central USA.
Here might be a start for your research into this:
http://library.ndsu.edu/repository/handle/10365/5711

The World War I Draft Registration Card image database:
Henry Maier, born October 9, 1886 in Cherow, Russia, Citizenship: Declared Intentions, farmer, wife and one child. He was a farmer, living in Inga, Chouteau County, Montana. This person registered on June 5, 1917 as required (National Registration Day)
--World War II Draft Registration Card Image Database:
Henry Maier, born October 9, 1886 in Russia. Residence: "R(Route) 1, Rupert, Minidoka Co, Idaho. Written in pencil above was "Box 22, Florin Calif." Person who will always know your address: "Ed Plocher, Rupert, ID" He was 5'-6", 160 pounds, had a mole-rear of left eye, Hazel eyes, Gray hair. He registered on April 27, 1942, at the Local Board, Court House, Rupert, ID
NOTE: Both of these Draft Registration identify the same name and same Date-of-Birth of October 9, 1886.
--Florin is an area in Sacramento County, CA.

Ed Plocher is identified as Edward Plocher, born 24 Oct 1887, died 29 April 1944 in Rupert, Minidoka County. His WWII draft registration identified he was born in Odesa, Russia. The person who will always know his address was Miss Emma Plocher. Edward appears to be more of a personal friend than family member.

Henry and Christina Maier are buried in the Lodi Memorial Cemeteri, San Joaquin County, CA.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=ma...;
Christina
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=ma...;

Also buried in this cemetery:
Jacob Maier 1877-1942
Almore C. Maier, 1921-1942
Rosina Maier, 1877 to 1942
---The Fresno Bee Republican, dated March 30, 1942,
Lodi Man, Son Killed In Auto Truck Collision... Jacob Maier, 65, and his son, Almore, 21, of Lodi, were killed...in a collison of their automobile and a lumber truck...Three are unconscious... Mrs. Jacob Maier, wife of the driver; Mrs. Anna Krause, and a little girl, "Thelma Mae."
---I don't know if the Jacob Maier family was related.

The Lodi Cemetery is located at 5750 E. Pine Street, Lodi, CA 95240, telephone: 209-333-7171. They "might" have a record of the family. It "might" have the name of the funeral home. While the funeral home may have been sold, gone out of business, "sometimes" the records transfer. I would not expect this in this case, but it is possible.

I find a family tree showing a Wilhemina Pfaff, born 17 oct 1824, daughter of Karl Wilhelm Pfaff and Katharina Becker, siblings Heinrich 1826; Jakob 1828; Karl 1839; and Franz 1832. No spouse or children identified.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

Once Again, I send this information to you:

Regarding citizenship, Henry is shown as having immigrated in 1906, his status was "Pa." That means "Papers," indicating he had filed his Declaration of Intention to become a citizen. It does NOT mean "pending papers." The term "Pa" was part of the instructions given to persons enumerating the census.
---In the instructions to the enumerators is found, as example for the 1900 Census: http://usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/inst1900.shtml :
-----#151. Column 18. Naturalization.—If the persons is a native of the United States, leave the column blank. If he was born abroad, and has taken no steps toward becoming an American citizen, write "Al" (for alien). If he has declared his intention to become an American citizen and taken out his "first" papers, write "Pa" (for papers). If he has become a full citizen by taking out second or final papers of naturalization, write "Na" (for naturalized).

By continuous use of your term "pending papers" or "pending citizenship papers" it wrongly attaches a different meaning to a CENSUS enumeration and changes it to a Naturalization Process, which is NOT the case. It simply means the person has filed and does not indicate any portion of the process which the word "pending" may indicate. NOTHING IS PENDING.

I also have pictures of the school. It was a very unique school and I loved it. I have so many fond memories of the school.
Vera

Try a search engine. People say "Google it" (www.google.com).

But, I use something better:
http://www.alltheweb.com/advanced?cs=utf-8
Under "Search For", change the statement to read "The Exact Phrase", and enter "Minico Junior High School", you'll get lots of "hits".

Ron Bestrom
