Descendants of Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald - Reunion Sept 8, 2012

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

Hi I have been looking into the family history of my grandmother Beverly Hibbard and found all your your family tree. Your grandmother Helen would have been my grandma Bev's great aunt. Beverly was a daughter of Wendell E Hibbard and Louise Ragna or Ragna Louise Holderson. They also had a son Dwayne Hibbard, and a daughter Gwen Hibbard (Doran) in addition to Virginia Hibbard and Lawrence Hibbard. My gandmother took the last name of her stepfather which was Bradly so she isn't traceable by Beverly Hibbard.

Thanks for the information. I had copied information from Find A Grave, but am unable to find newspaper articles in Salt Lake or Idaho. The Salt Lake papers, where I think she died are all at one library on microfilm and I'll have to try to get there. I don't walk well, so everything is a challenge for me.

Want to try another one? Val Dean Price--Death date--4 Feb 1983--buried in Teton-Newdale Cemetery. I have the gravestone pictures, just need a newspaper or cemetery to fill in the blanks.

I really appreciate your fast and thorough information. Let me know if you can locate other information.

David Osborn, III and Family

Birth: Apr. 19, 1838
Caldwell County
Missouri, USA
Death: Feb. 4, 1917
Rexburg
Madison County
Idaho, USA

David Osborn was the son of David Osborn II and Cynthia Butler. He married Nancy Thorn on the 25th of December 1857 at Three Mile Creek, Utah. He married Elizabeth Standley Osborn, the widow of his older brother around 1862. They were only married a short time before she divorced him. He and Elizabeth had one child, a son named Leonard Charles Osborn.

Bio. of David Osborn-6577
Progressive Men of Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Fremont, and Oneida
Counties, Idaho, Chicago, A.W. Bowen and Co., 1904. Page 335. (transcript)

"David Osborn, Jr., the popular landlord and useful citizen of Rexburg, Idaho, as a lad suffered all the sad effects of the unjust persecutions with his father's family, who were rendered poor and driven from place to place by religious bigotry, under the capable instruction of his father, however, receiving much more education than fell to the lot of most of the children of his association.

He drove a team of three yokes of oxen and one yoke of cows all the way along the emigrants' trail to Utah, walking all the distance.

In Utah he remained with his father until December 25, 1857, when occurred his marriage with Miss Nancy Thorn, a daughter of Ashal and Sarah (Lester) Thorn. She was born in Crawford county, Pa., on October 24, 1841, and accompanied her parents to Utah in 1853, being a resident of Box Elder county at the time of her marriage. For three years after marriage Mr. Osborn was employed on the farm of his eldest brother, then moved to the Cache Valley and took a homestead in the new settlement at Hyrum, where he erected the first residence of the place.

In June, 1861, his brother, Thomas J., died at East Weber, and at the request of the family, Mr. Osborn removed thither for one year to take charge of the farm and settle the estate. He then bought a farm at Three Mile Creek in Box Elder county, near Mrs. Osborn's people, and conducted this until July, 1865, when he moved to the new settlement of Montpelier, in Bear Lake county, Idaho, where for seven successive years he gave his entire time to vigorous
farming operations, during all of this time harvesting not a crop of value, on account of frosts and the depredations of grasshoppers. He persevered, however, and in time his diligent industry was rewarded by the possession of a fine farm and a pleasant home on the main street of the city.

During his life in Montpelier he was the very capable postmaster for fourteen years, a popular justice of the peace for sixteen years, and he was the efficient captain of the Montpelier company of the Nauvoo Legion during the entire life of that organization. An active man of business for twelve years while making his home in Bear lake county, Mr. Osborn was engaged in filling large contracts of railroad construction, building the line from Nampa to Boise and for years being employed in charge of highly important and especially difficult work at various points on the Oregon Short Line.

Not having land enough to supply his sons with labor, in 1895 he sold his Bear Lake possessions, and, in the spring of 1896, came to Rexburg, his present residence. Here he purchased land with a partially finished house upon it, which he enlarged and completed for hotel purposes, opening the Osborn House, which has proved a very popular place of entertainment, in the spring of 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Osborn have been most diligent and effective in the care of their guests and their house has a well-earned reputation. Mr. Osborn is a strong Republican and is serving his third term of justice of the peace in this city, having also been a member of the city council for two terms, also holding the important offices of supervisor and watermaster with conceded ability.

In church relations he has been very active and useful. While living at Three Mile Creek he was the president of the local branch of Brigham City ward, and at Montpelier he as a highly serviceable counsellor to five biships, holding the office until his removal to Rexburg; in this city he has been a member of the High Council of the stake for three years. In all his relations, civil, religious and social, he has received the encomiums of his associates for his faithfulness and ability, and won the friendship of the best citizens of the various communities where he has maintained his residence.

The children of this honored couple, with a brief record, concludes most fittingly this interesting sketch: David A., born on September 4, 1859, a rancher, resides in Lemhi county; Cynthia A., born on June 6, 1861, married A.J. Bird and resides in Rexburg; Sarah Vianca, born February 1, 1863, married R.C. Young and died on January 18, 1892, leaving one child, David R.; Mary M. born on January 14, 1865, married J.M. Phelps, and lives in Montpelier; Lydia J., born on March 12, 1867, resides in Rexburg; Nancy A., born on April 26, 1869, is also at the parental home; Margaret A., born July 21, 1871, married H.E. Rigby and lives in Rexburg; Jefferson L., born October 19, 1873, lives at Gransville, Utah, and is a teacher; William W., born on February 14, 1876, has filled a two-years mission in Kentucky, and is now at the Osborn House; John Richard, born November 18, 1877, at the present writing is filling a mission in British Columbia; Isaac Melvin, born on April 7, 1880, is teaching at Hibbard, Idaho; Glenn Milton, on January 1, 1887, is a student at Ricks Academy."

Parents:
David Osborn (1807 - 1893)

Spouses:
Nancy Thorn Osborn (1841 - 1918)
Elizabeth Standley Benson (1838 - 1919)

Children:
Cynthia Abigail Osborn Bird (1861 - 1940)
Nancy Adaline Osborn (1869 - 1909)

IN
Rexburg Cemetery
Rexburg
Madison County
Idaho

WITH NANCY THORN OSBORN, CYNTHIA & NANCY + their families

Hi, Katie,

I am so glad you posted a message on this board. I haven't been spending much time on this side of my family history, as I had hit so many dead ends. I recently ran into someone who knows Ruby Klein Bowersox. I sent a letter to Ruby via Mrs. Baker. I haven't received a reply yet.

I do have some information on the family, and I also have pictures that I need to scan in to the computer, so that can post them. I do have pictures that my parents took when they visited Katie in 1949 and again in 1967.

There is something that I have wondered about for years, and that is what happened to my dad's oldest brother, Jacob, or Jake, as he was called. I found him in the 1920 census in Melba, Idaho, but have no idea what happened to him. My mother left a note saying Jake died in 1921, but does not say where or how. My dad never talked much about his older brother, and, unfortunately, I didn't persue getting information from him before Dad died.

If you would like to contact me personally, my email is letashannon@cox.net.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Leta Shannon

Hi, my name is Katie Klein. I am Katie Hetze's great grand daughter, I was named after her. I was bored tonight and decided to search my family history and ran into this page. I could probably help you find some more information on the Klein family. I am Harvey's grand daughter and we still live in the area where Katie and her family were. In fact, the cemetary she is buried in is on a hill in front of my house. Please contact me,
Katie Klein

P.S. There are also many Millers still in the area too and our families are still good friends.

Hello, I have recently found that my ancestress is Mary Ann Walderam b. @ 1818 probably in Leicester Eng. Her father is William, a laborer. I do have her marriage to John Waterfield in 1839 in parrish of Breedon. They lived in Coleorton. She seems to have died @ 1844. Any ideas on finding the family or her baptism record would be SO appreciated. M Anderson

Hi, Kristen,

While I don't have a great deal of information on the Klein family, I would be happy to send you everything I have. It will take me a couple of days to put it all together, but I would be happy to do it. I also have some pictures of the Klein family that my parents took in 1949, and others in 1967 when they visited the family. I will start another public tree on Ancestry.com and then I can scan in the pictures that I have so that you can see them.

As you saw in my posts about the Klein family, my grandmother and your great-grandmother were sisters. There were also two boys and another sister.

I will send you a message through Ancestry.com with my email address, so that I can send information to you directly.

I am so glad that you contacted me.

Hi I am the great granddaughter of Katie Hetze & John Klein, the granddaughter of Marine and Alfred Klein and the daughter of Paula and Jim Adams. My parents reside in Seattle and I reside south of Vancouver BC. Soon I will be marrying into the Jamison family. I would love to get some more information about our family tree if you have any to offer. With such common last names I am finding this task extremely difficult, but I really desire to learn the history of our families!

Frank and Nellie Harris

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am looking for more information on Frank and Nellie Harris. They are listed in the 1900 census as living in Rexburg. He was a Piano tuner and she was a music teacher. They had three children: Norma, Nellie and Frank H.

They were originally from Logan, Utah I know that Frank returned returned there sometime in 1901 as his son died and was buried there. He then married Rosa Hughes there in 1904. However, I have no further information on Nellie Harris - whether she died or got divorced. Her maiden name was Jones and she was my great-grandfather's cousin.

Norma Harris passed away in 1980, although I do not know where.

I look forward to any information!

Liza

Hello, this has been an amazing day, myself and a
friend, Tina, have been helping BARBARA ANN
CHAPMAN(born 11/26/1952 in Rexburg Idaho) locate her
birth family, we just found out tonight, who they
were, BEVERLY JOYCE (BAUER)BISHOP and EDDIE DEWAYNE
BISHOP, and now we need help locating any living
relatives, as we've discovered that they've both
passed away, along with a sister, BARBARA just
discovered, TONYA LEIGH BISHOP. BARBARA was raised an
only child with her adoptive parents, and they too,
have passed on, so it really would be wonderful if we
can find someone.
This is what I know about her birth parents, BEVERLY,
born 6 May 1931 and died 21 Jan 1996, last residence,
Pocatello, Bannock, Idaho. EDDIE born, 22 Apr 1929 in
Idaho Falls,Bonnville,Idaho and died 05 Oct 1995 in
Pocatello,Bannock,Idaho. Please if you know this
family, or can help us, please post on this board, or
email Tina at halyardhome@webtv.net

Hi, I am helping Barbara ANN Chapman(adoptive
name)locate her birth mother, and or siblings. She was
born
11/27/1952 in REXBURG,IDAHO, MADISON COUNTY. Her
mother was really young so the doctor helped arrange
the adoption, the Doctor was M.F Rigby MD, she was
born in MADISON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL in REXBURG, her
birth mother was from SUGAR CITY, IDAHO. HOWARD and
DORIS CHAPMAN adopted her and named her BARBARA ANN
CHAPMAN. She believes the birth mother met her
adoptive parents, because at a funeral (whose?), her
adoptive father, HOWARD saw the birth mother and
recognized her, so for him to know who she was, they
must have at least met before. We're hoping someone
here can help her, as both adoptive parents are
deceased, and she was raised an only child. BARBARA
found out she was adopted when her adoptive father
told her on his death bed. I believe she was 45yrs.
old at the time, she has been searching ever since,
and hopefully someone can give us some answers or
clues. I will also post this msg. on boards that I
have mentioned in this letter.

If you're willing to wait a couple of weeks, I can visit the Rexburg cemetery for you. I have 3 big papers due this month then I should be able to take a break and wander around the cemetery for you.

This funeral home was located here in Rexburg and they took care of most people. If your people died during this time period, I would be glad to look these records up for you. I have never been to the cemetery but if you give me a while- midterms are next week, I'll see what I can do for you.
