Descendants of Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald - Reunion Sept 8, 2012

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

To the other person, Shotgun: The poster is looking for Elsie Stirewalt (Maiden name) The person you found was born Elsie May Kennedy. She was married to Dawson Nedrow (the correct one identified as being married to a Robert). Dawson was a Major in WWII.

The 1920 Census of Port Susan, Snohomish Co, WA
Sherman Stirewalt, 56
Delsie, wife, 41
Elsie, daughter, 1 8/12, born in Oregon. The census was enumerated on 17-19 January, so the correct Elsie born about April/May 1918.

A "probable" Robert I Nedrow, born in Maryland, 7 Aug 1897, died in Mar 1965, buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Kooskia, Idaho Co. Living in Lewis County, ID, during the WWI Draft Registration of Aug 1918.

A family tree identifies Elsie. Her mother Delsia Ann was born 6 Jan 1878 in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, CO, died 27 Oct 1969 in Grangeville, ID. Her obituary "might" identify location of Elsie. Siblings obits that might contain information:
Earl W, born 19 March 1901 in Idaho, died April 1971 in Payette, Idaho.
William, born 1908, died 12 Oct 1983 in Payette
Howard, born 1911, died 13 Sept 1984 in Grangeville, ID.
Hi Jim,

I found an Elsie K. Nedrow who was born 15 July 1916
Died: 6 Sept. 2000
Last Residence Possibly: Albany, Linn, OR
Spouse: Dawson
Source: social security death index

Elsie Mae Nedro
Service: 1st LT US Army World War II
Born: 15 July 1916
Died: 6 Sept. 2000
Service Start Date: 1 Sept. 1943
Buried: 12 Sept. 2000, Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97266; Section Y, Site 1960.
Source: U.S. Veterans Grave Sites 1775-2006.

The service info might be her's or her husband's.

I'm not sure this is your Elsie. Idaho restricts access to death records for 50 years after the event. Therefore she could have died in Idaho but the info isn't made public for 50 years. If you're a close family member you can get a copy of her death certificate.

If you want to verify if she is your Elsie, you can order a copy of her obituary at Linn County Historical Museum, www.co.linn.or.us/parks/museums/historymuseum.html

OR
Albany Public Library, http://library.cityofalbany.net/ . Successful Searching!

However, I'm not sure this is your Elsie.

I am looking for information on a James R. Crawford, a Civil War Vet from Iowa. He served in the 37th Iowa Infantry "The Greybeard Unit". He mustered in at Muscatine Iowa in 1862. He eventually ended up in Lewis County, Idaho, and is buried in Golden Ridge Cemetery in Winchester, Idaho. I would really love to hear from anyone who might have access to obits, etc. from between 1880-1900, or cemetery records to help me determine if this James R. Crawford is an elusive relative that I am researching. What makes me suspect this might be my James R. Crawford is that he had a son, William Wesley Crawford who moved to Idaho and settled in the Winchester area. Anything you may have to offer would really be appreciated!

Hi,
Did you know you posted your message in Lewis County, Idaho? Not a big deal but it confused me. Or do you think Sarah or George was born there?

I found the 1880 Jackson, Greene Co., PA census where Walter was living with the Kitchel or Mitchel family and listed as adopted.

I looked for his parents in the 1870 Census but didn't find them.

I'd say your next step is to find Sarah and George's death information. I'm not familiar with searching in PA, however, I'd contact Greene County Pennsylvania Clerk or do a Google search for Greene County Pennsylvania Genealogy. That should bring up several web sites and hopefully one will have death info.

I figure Sarah and George were born around 1848 in Pennsylvania. They both must have died before 1880 Census in Greene Co.

Also look for a copy of Walter's birth certificate or where it's written in a ledger book.

The next thing is to post your query on the Greene County, PA Message Board.
Hi,
Thanks for replying. I don't know where he was born. I can't find anything on him. I searched for a Walter Lewis in the 1870 census. He should have been around two years old. I've looked in all the townships, other counties, and even other states. I think I'm going in circles now. I read an article on researching people in clusters, so I'm trying to do this now. Any help or insight you can give would be really, really, really appreciated! Linda

I'm searching for the parents of Walter Lewis. He was born in feb 1868 and died in mar 1940. He married Mary Marie Burge 1n 1890. His obit. says his parents were Sarah Ross and George Lewis. The death cert. says his parents were Sarah Rose and George Lewis. I found Walter in the census of 1890, living with Rufus Mitchell; the relationship said "adopted son". I found a Sarah living with a James Kinney in 1870 census in Jackson Twnshp, Greene Co, Pa. It did not list a last name for Sarah, but showed two children-Walter age 2 and rebecca age 1. Under profession, Sarah was listed as housekeeper and both children as illegatamite. Walter was my ggrandfather, his son Ross was my grandfather. I lived with Ross until I was age 10 at his death. I would appreciate any help or info anyone may have. I have hit a brick wall and do not know where to check next.

Where were the Bumgardners from?

Are you in Idaho?

My great grandfather was Claude Crocker. He died in 1962 in California. My cousin claims his parents were Samuel and (Sarah) Crocker and that Claude was born in Salem, Kansas and that the Samuel in Kamiah is his father but I can only find Samuel and Rachel in Kamiah in the 1900 census, no Sarah. That census indicates that Rachel was born in 1850 in Illinois and that her parents were born in Pennsylvania. There are no children listed with them. Claude was born in 1884 I think so he would have been 16 when the census was taken...that is if he were her son.

Claude is supposed to be a cousin to a Clayton Steele Crocker (according to my cousin). Clayton is listed in 1910 as the son of Loren Crocker and living in Latah County, Idaho, born in Idaho and his father Loren born in Missouri.

When I look at some of the census records for the Crockers up in Latah County, it does look like some lived in Missouri, Washinton and then Idaho but I don't have any proof they are related only my cousin's word.

She has some ages mixed up as well as she said that his mother (Sarah) was was in her 40's when Claude was born and the father in his 50's but if Samuel and Rachel were Claude's parents, then she would have only been 34 and he 38.

Of course then my grandmother, uncle and mother said Claude was adopted by the Crockers in Kansas and that his real father was a man named Atherton. Since my grandmother was married 5 times and lived in Texas, Idaho, Washington, California, Oregon and Colorado I don't know what to believe. She also claimed Claude was half indian, but her brothers and sisters said she was crazy and that they were all lies.

Claude was married to Janetta Capwell in Kooskia, Idaho (next to Kamiah) in 1910. Perhaps there were other Crocker's in the area. Perhaps the Crockers in Latah County were related. Perhaps Samuel was his father. Perhaps he was adopted. Frankly I can find no record of him although I have photographs of the Crockers that I know are related.

What do you know about the Bumgardner's?

Here is some information from a post I recently read about Samuel Crocker from a reliable source:

Samuel Crocker was a charter member of the I.O.O.F Lodge here in Kamiah around the turn of the century. the info here is from Book 1 of the Lodge records.

Page 91. Sarah Crocker died Aug 22 1902, buried at Kamiah.
(My note) The Cemetery at Kamiah was not established until Oct 1903, so we have no idea where she was buried

Page 192. Samuel Crocker, died July 16 1904.
Page 193. Samuel was the first local lodge member to die.
Page 198. Brownstown Ill. lodge, sons paid for his funeral.
(My note) With the survey and establishment of the Cemetery in Oct 1903, it would be assured that Samuel is buried there. My listing, which is from several walkthroughs and revisions of older list do not show Samuel or Sarah's graves. It could be that they were buried on their own place if they lived on a farm or they could be among the Unknowns that are listed in various places in the cemetery.

This complicates the Samuel Crocker and Rachel Crocker in the 1900 census in Kamiah precint. Who is Sarah? Are they different Samuels?

Sam Crocker was the husband of Rachel Bumgardner, who was a sister to my GGGrandfather. I am trying to find more info on them. Rachel and Sam raised her nephew, after his parents died. I don't know if they had any children of their own, just trying to put some pieces together. Did get to the cemetery, and the sexton showed me where he thought they were buried, but there is no death certificate or proof of where they were buried. They may have been buried next ot Rufus Bumgardner, son of Asa and his wife, Sarah (Bessie) Bumgardner. If you have information on Sam and Rachel, sure would love to hear from you.
