I have Yearians in my family but it has been awhile since I researched the family. Salmon and Lemhi Idaho would have been where some of the Yearian's moved to so your location is right. If you have patience I will get back to you.

My ggrandfather was George Yearian Pyeatt.

rcumins@hotmail.com is my direct email.

My Grandmothers name was Georgine Yearian. Her father was I believe Frank Yearian. They lived in Salmon Idaho. She died back around 1980 at 100.
I have been trying to find out something about the Yearian family for quite some time. Cannot find a Frank though. Not sure where he came from but I know he built railroads.

Jerrold also has a living granddaughter, Amanda. Jerrold did go missing for many years and absolutely no one knew where he was living. He is currently living in Idaho.

Naturalization Records

Does Lemhi Co. have Naturalization Records at county level? I may have found a record for my great grandfather's naturalization and I am unable to find the naturalization record any where online. I found the naturalization card index for Salmon, Lemhi with the following info. (in part)

WILLIAM WARNECKE
VOL. & PAGE - VOL. 1,P-78
TITLE & LOCATION OF COURT - 5th DC SALMON, IDAHO
COUNTRY OR BIRTH OR ALLEGIANCE - PRUSSIA (Germany)
DATE OF NATURALIZATION - OCT 2 1900

It is very possible this IS him. He is found living there in the 1900 Census.

Is anyone willing to do a look up for me to see if..
These records are still located at county level?
If so, the process & cost of obtaining a copy?
OR
If no records where they can be found?

If this record is his, it would help me with so many unanswered questions about his life. I get excited just thinking about it. I try not to get my hopes up but, as you know it is really hard sometimes!

I would really appreciate the help and would be more than willing to return the favor if you need assistance in my area - Butte, Montana.

Thank You in advance for any help anyone can provide!
This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out.
Christine Peterson Amonson and her husband, Peter Amonson were my great-grandparents. My grandparents were Oscar and Jane Leach Amonson. My Parents were Peter and Jean Amonson.
Wangelsten Amonson Mean, my father's cousin, died recently. Jerrold Amonson, Wangelsten's brother, is the last surviving grandchild of Christine and Peter Amonson. Jerrold disappeared for long periods of time during his adult life and recently resurfaced and returned to Salmon, Idaho. Jerrold's daughter died during one of these long absences. He contacted my late mother three years ago and explained that he wasn't missing because he knew where he was.

I see the EMBLY name and wondering why it is familiar. OK..this may help someone. Lots of reference here to Boyle Creek, (which is now called Tower Creek..don't know when the name was changed). My husband and family lived on Boyle Creek in the 1950's I guess it would be...around then. We visit there often. So, past where he lived,(the Doc Norton Place) there is an old cabin or home that has been preserved there, and a little picnic area. There is information posted there as to the history of the home...and the name I can recall is EMBLY...something about them coming back to live there, some details and names. I am sorry I cannot recall more, but maybe someone in Salmon, Idaho knows more about that home, and the names and inscription/dedication there.
Hope this might help,
Nancy Walchli, CA.

Hello, my father (Matthew Kovac, really Kovacic ) one of his best friends in Sylvan, Pennslyvania (ethnic suburb outside PA) was a fellow named Vic Jakovac. This was back in the 1920's, 1930, as dad was born USA 1906 (first child, a boy to grandma and grandpa Kovacic).

I heard alot of great stuff about the Vic and my dad. Hope there are some friends, relatives out there. The Kovacic family is fine, having moved to Northern California here back around 1940 (before my time).

Best of all and write me about Kovacic, Jakovacs you may know, also Crnkovic, that is my dad's mother's name (from Dalmatid on the coast of Croatia).

Hi,
First let's start with the Census records.

In 1900 William and Anna C. Warnecke were living in Salmon, Lemhi Co., ID.
William Warnecke, b. Germany May 1865, boarding beer.
Anna C., wife, b. WI, June 1862, had given birth to four children but only two alive in 1900.
James A. Thompson, boarder.

In 1910 the Warnecke family was living in Butte Ward 8, Silver Bow Co., Montana.
William D. Warnecke, b. Germany, 44, M1=10 yrs, saloon keeper.
Ella C., wife, b. WI, 47, M2-10 yrs, gave birth to three children & all alive in 1910.
Arthur W., son, b. ID, 8, father born=Germany & mother born=WI [obviously the Warnecke's].
Kate Cosgrove, lodger.

In 1920 the family was living in Lake Avoca, Silver Bow Co., MT.
William H. Warnecke, b. Germany, 54.
Anna, wife, b. WI, 57.
Arthur, foster son, b. ID, 18, single, miner copper mill, father born=Sweden, mother born=Utah [probably his biological parents].

In 1930 the family was still living in Lake Avoca.
William Warnecke, b. Germany, 62,florist flower shop.
Anna C., wife, b. WI, 65.
Arthur, son, b. ID, 28, single, both parents born Sweden [probably biological parents].

William, Anna and Arthur's obituaries might provide more information but I'm not familiar how to find death dates in Montana.

The BIG question is was Arthur legally adopted? He might not have been but the place to start is to look for his birth certificate. If he was legally adopted, you should find it under Warnecke. If he was not legally adopted, you'll need his birth surname to find it.

I'd inquire about his birth cert at the Lemhi County Clerk-Auditor-Recorder's Office, lemhicountyidaho.org/clerkauditors.htm . Most birth certs aren't available until 100 years after birth but it's been over 100 years.

If they don't have it, he might have been legally adopted and you'll have to go through the courts.

"All inquiries for adoption information should be directed to the county of origin or to the Center for Vital Statistics. . ." I can't give you the URL for this quote because they changed the web site and I can't find it at the new web site. Successful Searching!

Looking for information on my grandfather. Information we have says he was born in Salmon, Lemhi County. We are confused on information found in one historical records, 1910 Lemhi co census. It reads as his relation to head of household as "fos son", all other census' read as "son"
Word is, he was adopted.. So, I thought I would start with his birth certificate and go from there.

Arthur Warnecke
6 May 1901
Salmon, Lemhi, Idaho

Thank you for offering to look for other information, I basically know nothing about him, He died before I was born. I just recently saw a picture of him for the first time and I am in my 40's!

Hi,
I just openned the Ancestry file at Dave's house to see you did get the pics. Hurray! I was pretty sure we were a good match for family. Anyway, I didn't think my old Ancestry account even worked at my house yesterday as it hadn't been renewed for more than 10 years and it wanted a renewal to send the message. Surprised me today to see you did get this message. So instead of fighting with my computer at my house I'll look through what was Margaret's photo bucket until my meeting today at 1 p.m. Yes, we still have two houses, that's what happens when you get married in your 60's and my house is paid for.
I'll write later.
Helen

I have those two pictures in my Edson Album!!!! The one with the man from J Hogg McMinneville Or only says on the back "Mary", thinking it was sent to Mary Edson, daughter of Sidney and Margaret Nixon Edson. The other of the couple with the little girl had nothing written on the back. This is great-we are a match.

Hi Marsha,

Dave and I spent a couple hours with Elizabeth yesterday. Her vision is so poor she could hardly see the pictures I copied that you sent. Unfortunately she did not recognize anyone of the first three you sent. Elizabeth's given name was actually Sarah Elizabeth Edson but father, David did not like the name Sarah, thus everyone has known her as Elizabeth. Anyway, I deciphered my notes from our visit enough to send you a couple of stories hopefully tomorrow or Friday as I have friends dinner tonight and sorority sisters job tomorrow afternoon. However, Dave did find a couple of pictures in his mothers box and I think I now know who they are of. As I said prior I have a new scanner so I'll try to scan them here and email them. Learned I can not fax without a landline. (Just gave that up two weeks ago) Anyway we will need to go through Margaret Moodies bucket of pictures to see if there are any more. Elizabeth said her sister (Margaret) got all the old pictures and since her father David Edson died when she was 17 she did not know much. She did say that David did not like his father much and so he went to Calif. at 18 yrs old to work on the railroad as a tie hack. Later he went to Oregon and worked logging in the timbers. Both Margaret and Elizabeth said their father was quite lean and tall, 6' 2"(Elizabeth) or 6' 4"(Margaret).

There is more to David's story but I must get ready for the evening dinner.

Hopefully my scans will work. First picture is of "A.J. (Albert) Edson, wife and daughter Nadine" per inscription on back. Elizabeth said Albert lived in the Pahsimeroi, ID. The second picture handwriting on back states "James Edson, (?) Dave please let us know as asoon as you get these pictures. Himmie is returning home from a visit to his old home. (signed?) Nettie Edson and Dave is written on bottom. Elizabeth thought Jim lived in Montana.

Hopefully, these will help some for now. Elizabeth did seem a little confused at times and a little tried but was very happy to share what she knew.

I hope this works. Good luck for now, I'll write later.

Helen
Thanks for your reply. Dave and I will probably go to his aunts house in the next couple of days and ask her if she recognizes the people. Unfortunately, she has poor vision now so we can only hope she can fill in the blanks.
Would you please contact me with your phone number and tell me more about the photos of David Edson in particular. We have not seen those pics yet. My phone is 208-756-2136.

I have some pictures from the Edson album of unknown family taken from Moscow, Idaho, Chebanse, Ill., some from Salem, McMinnville and Portland Oregon, Parkville and Boonville, MO and a handfull of small tintypes in paper frames that I copied that had no identifying information on them. I have found out a couple of the pictures names. When I wrote trying to find a date for the pictures to Idaho I was told that the photographer was in business from 1884 to 1908 so that will give you an estimate on the year(s) range those were taken.
Edson family, Sarah Messner, Eva Haller, Audley Edson are some of the names I have come up with.

I wanted to thank you again for all your help. The two sisters, Christine and Kirstine or Kjerstine were said to both go by Christine.

My uncle Bob is meeting with the grandson of the Christine in Idaho to compare genealogy later this month. I think it looks promising that you found the right one. For one thing, this Christine named her granddaughter Wangelsten, which is very close to her sister's middle name. Not very common. Also, one son had the middle name of Lemvig, which was her brother's middle name. I know Norwegian names are repeatedly used over and over, but I have a good feeling about this.

Thank you once again.

Dawn

Judy: I am most thankful to you for providing me with so much information on this particular Ball family. They are ancestors of my son-in-law. Oddly enough, there is another branch of the Ball family who lived in Moscow (Latah County) Idaho, also in Whitman Co., Washington. I am in contact with several descendants of the Moscow Ball family and found it quite surprising that they knew nothing about the Thomas Ball family of Lemhi County, Idaho. Many thanks for all of the help you provided me and thank you also for asking the author of the Jewett Family information to contact me. I will eventually get the Ball Family information (PA-OH-ID) posted on the Ball Surname Message Board; I have about 5 generations worth of data. Again, my very sincere thanks for your assistance with my research.

Thank you very much for the information.

Since my query posted in 2008 I have locate an obituary in Frankfort, Kentucky for James H. Hockensmith.

He died at the Mayo Brothers Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on April 7, 1916. James never married and was survived by a brother, 2 step-sisters and several nieces and nephews.

I am curious how his assets were distributed and would assume his estate went to probate in Lemhi County.

Can you offer any suggestions how I might obtain this information.

You can contact me at Hunt4Roots@aol.com

Thanks,

Anne

There was a death notice for a James Hockensmith published in 1916:

Date: April 09, 1916
Location: Idaho
Paper: Idaho Statesman
Page 1

LEMHI PIONEER DEAD
Salmon, Ida.

A telegram from Rochester, Minn., states that James Hockensmith, a pioneer miner of Lemhi county at Leesburg, died there Friday night. He leaves relatives at Lexington, Ky., and large property interests here.

Posting for research purposes.
Eellitta

Thank you so much for your help. Two sisters came to America with my great-great-grandfather, their brother, their parents, and my great-great-grandmother was very pregnant with my great-grandmother who was born on this ship. The two sisters are two separate Christines I'm searching for. One in Idaho and one in Minnesota. I've found their baptism records in the digitalarkivet.

However, you will have to wade through the facts you have to compare these two. The Christina in Lemhi County was born in Norway, in 1855 per census, 1849 per the death index. But, if your known person died in Minnesota in 1931, then the one in CA is not the correct person. I'll take a look in Minnesota also.

Ron Bestrom

Hi Dawn,
Did she come to America with any other family members? Did she spend any time in the USA before she lived in Idaho?

YOu could contact the Lemhi County Clerk, 208-756-2815 and ask if they have a way to look up her marriage under her maiden name.

I checked the Western States Marriage data base and didn't find her there but that's assuming she married in Idaho.

Hopefully the "Norway expert" will see this post and be able to help you. (I live in Kent, WA!)
The 7" x 11" album actully has 76 photos in it, not only of himself, but of several different people and also groups. Unfortunately most are not labeled, but some are.
The card in front says, "I take pleasure in presenting this little Album to Mr and Mrs Roman Kinney who I Hope i may claim as Friends. With all Kind Wishes O E Kirkpatrick"
Mr and Mrs Kinney are my husband's deceased aunt & uncle who have no direct descendants. Seems as you said that Kirkpatrick was a single man.
Do you have any information on O.E. Kirkpatrick sufficient to find family members. Since your comments indicate your pictures are only of him, versus a lot of pictures of the Leesburg, ID, town, the family may be more interested than a historical organization.

I did some basic research on this person, that which you may already know. He shows first in Leesburg in 1910, then there through 1930 at age of 64. He was single, born in Ohio, "probably born about Feb to April 1866. Didn't find him in the 1900 Census, using wild card Ori*, Ore*, Ora*, Ora*, with Kir*, born plus/minus 5 years of 1866. Not finding in a census is not unusual, the enumerator may have seriously "misspellled", the transcriber may have misread. Or, they were just missed in the census. He didn't show in the 1880 census, (except for a "possible). But that doesn't mean to much. BUT, it leads to speculation, he "could" have been born in 1866 as Kirkpatrick, the mother remarried and he showed in the census with the new father, then returning to his true birth name later. Or, due to criminal, marital, social, ect., problems changed his name before the 1910 census. OR, he was ALWAYS using the same name, just missed in the census.

It does show, however, he was single from at least 1910 to 1930, to whatever date of the photographs. If you have his date of death, try the local cemetery where he might be buried. Try to obtain his obituary; however, it "appears" that might not help, unless his friends paid for one and someone knew his family. His death certificate might hold clues, again, if the respondent had knowledge of his family.

I have photographs of a Butler family of the late 1800's that were in my G-Grandmothers photo album. I've been holding onto them, posting periodically, looking to pass them onto family members. While I have four pictures, you have one, mine is of a family, yours is of a probably single person. If I do find the family, I will pass them on and feel satisfaction. But, I do genealogy daily, helping posters. You'll have to decide what it means to you.

The research:
The 1930 Census for Leesburg, Lemhi County, ID, Johnson National Forest.
Orrin(sic) E. Kirkpatrick, age 64 (born circa 1865/66), single, born in Ohio to both parents born in Ohio, Watchman/Mine. He owned his home at HappiX Creek

The 1920 Census for Leesburg. enumerated 10 Feb.
Orion E Kirkpatrick, age 53 (born circa 1866/1867) in Ohio to father born in Ohio, mother in ? (US?), miner/goldmine

The 1910 Census for Leesburg, Lemhi Co, ID, enumerated 16 April
Oren(sic) E. Kirkpatrick, 44, born in Ohio to both parents born in OH, Miner/Gold Mining
--The 1920 census has him as 53 on 10 Feb 1920, the 1910 has him 44 on 16 April. So, it appears he was born between 10 Feb and 16 April of 1866.

The 1880 Census for Camp Point, Adams Co, IL.
Mary Kirkpatrick 37, born in New York
Webster 17, IL
M. 16, IL, works in Marble yard
Orrin 14, IL, brick yard boy,
Minnie 13, IL
Ira 10, IL
Harry 5, IL
--This was the only Orin/Oren/Or... found in the 1880 census that matches close to the age criteria.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA
