I went through many cemetery listings, Hope, Prarie View, Rimrock, Greenwood, Pine Grove, Harrison, St. Michaels, Lane Cem, Medimort, Rose Lake, Riverview, St. Thomas, Rest Lawn (now coeur d alene memorial gardens), Pleasant View, Kootentai County Cem and Loffs Cemetery. I did find in Rest Lawn a Ben. F. Preston, b. 4/2/1909 to 1/19/1977 US. ARMY WW11 s/s Laron L. listed and wrote it down in case it is a relation. IN Evergreen Cemetery book Vol 2 1984 it listed Eliott M. Preston 1867 to Sept 21, 1955 s/s Fannie B.
also Fannie B. 1867 to 5/8/1954 s/s Elliott M. this was listed in the Kootenai County, ID Cemetery Records by Shane. Vol 2 1984
In the English Funeral Home Book, it listed Ione Preston 2/6/1996 and David Samuel Preston Oct 30, 1992 both cremated. In the Coeur D Alene Memorial Gardens was A. Conrad Preston 3/24/1997 burial date. Nina Mae Preston 9/10/1983 cremation date. In the Post Falls Cemetery book (now evergreen) an older listings shows a Mr. Preston 9/21/1955 block 64 plot 3
Fanny Preston 5/8/1954 block 64 plot 2. I also copied the City Directory Coeur D Alene 1936 to 37 page with the Preston's on it. can scan and send or mail it to you. I shows 7 Prestons listed and their work. Including: Geo E, Kenneth L. Mary E. another Mary E. that says wife of Geo, Maxine, Millard R (Nina). We need to narrow down the date death on Millard for the obit, as the books that list by last name started at 1969. Send me your direct email if you want me to scan and send the Directory page.

Kootenai Lookup info needed

Help me Help you
Tell me what you know. Lookups can take a long time and the more info I have the better.
Name:
Name of Spouse and any known children
Exact name of birth and death if known
Last known census you found them in and what city.

The library obit listings book has 1969 and forward listed by last names. For obits with earlier deaths then that I need exact date of death to look in papers on microfilm. Where born and where died if known. The town will help me narrow down the cemetery listings in the county.
The Hayden library genealogy section is not large. I can look in City Directories, three funeral home books, obit listings after 1969, Cemetery books and some cremation records are also in the listings. They have some marriage records, did not look like a lot when I was at the library.
I wait until I have 2 or 3 requests to go to the library. I also have a regular job.
I also have a subscription to Footnote online if you need Civil or Rev war look up.
I figure about 20 minutes at library for a free lookup. I will be asking the genealogy people when I can find one at the library if they have any books about the old churches and marriage listings and info about their Pastors too.

Looking for info on Puringtons and Reverend Erling Bergen

I just found the obituaries for my grandfather (Ezra)Jay Purington and his brother Merton(thank you Mary!)posted in 2003 from 1941 and 1945. They said that both of them came to Rathdrum in 1895. I had lost Jay for about a 20 year period so that was wonderful. I can't find them on the 1900 Federal Census so I'm wondering if anyone could find any other sources for me. Also their mother (Cornelia Purington McCormack), Merton and their younger brother Irvin were all on a Minnesota census in 1895. She was married to a Samuel McCormack after a divorce from my great grandfather, John G. Purington. Then she dies in Rathdrum in 1899. John G. moves to Rathdrum before 1904(from Minnesota), died in 1914 and they are all buried (except Irvin) in Pinegrove Cemetery (previously, Post Cemetery). I would like to try to make sense of all this because both Cornelia's husbands call themselves widowers.

Another issue is Jay's wife Augusta Agergaard. She doesn't arrive from Denmark until 1905 in Minnesota and they were married in 1909 in Coeur D'Alene so I'm just curious how they connected.

My father was born in Rathdrum (I remember when we would visit and go around a corner where the house was where he was born). My mom went to high school there. They were married in 1946. I noticed it was the same minister, Erling Bergen, that married them and officiated at Merton's funeral. I'm wondering if anyone would know how to find what religion the church was. I would very much appreciate it if anyone could help on any of this. Thanks so much, Sue P.

Looking for the Family of Job Wilbur (1846-1916)

I am looking for the family of (and possible descendants for) Job Wilbur, son of David C. and Lucinda (CAGWIN) Wilbur. He was the youngest of their four known children, born 2 April, 1846 at either Unadilla, Otsego Co. or in Chautauqua Co., NY. Between circa 1856 and 1860, David, Lucy and family migrated to Michigan via Astabula Co., then Lucas Co., OH. Job enlisted 27 September, 1864 at Bangor, MI and served until the end of the Civil War together with his eldest brother, William C. Wilbur (my husband's great great grandfather), as a Private in Co., A, 29th Michigan Volunteer Infantry.

Job was enmuerated with his parents in the 1870 Census for Akron Twp., Tuscola Co., MI. On 13 August, 1870, he married Alma THOMAS in Tuscola Co. In the 1880 census, Job, Alma and their four eldest children were enumerated while living in Eden Twp., Mason Co., MI. Soon after that, they left Michigan and did not surface again until Job, Alma and their youngest daughter, Myrtle, were enumerated for the 1900 census living in Harrison, Kootenai Co., ID. Job died 25 December, 1916 in Kootenai Co., ID and lies buried in Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.

Job and Alma's eldest child, Ambrosia Belle "Belle" Wilbur (born 1871 in Tuscola Co., Michigan) married Charles Ewing "Charley" LEMLEY; both lie buried in Porter, Wagoner Co., OK. Another daughter, Mable Wilbur (born 1880 in Mason CO., Michigan), married James Ward HEISHMAN; both lie buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA. Still among the missing are Job's wife, Alma (born 1850 in Michigan) and four of their six children: Ella M. Wilbur (born 1872 in Tuscola Co., Michigan), Frank A. Wilbur (born 1874 in Tuscola Co., Michigan), Lucy Wilbur (born after 1880, place surrently unknown) and Myrtle Wilbur (born 1885 in Arkansas). I have found Frank enumerated in the 1900 Census for Wardner Precinct #1 (unincoporated), Shoshone Co., ID. He was single, was working as a lead miner and lived as a boarder with the Ralph N. Stout family. Unfortunately. I have not been able to find him listed anywhere after that.

Recently, a photo of Job's gravesite was posted at my request on the Find-A-Grave website. (His surname is misspelled as WILBER on his government-issue tombstone.) Not only has this grave been kept immaculately tended, but it appears to have been freshly decorated with a nice silk floral arrangement. On account of this, I suspect that there may be at least one of his decendants still living in the Coeur d'Alene area. If so, I would love to make contact with them. I have a great deal of accumulated Wilbur family data to share!

Northern Idaho News: Tuesday, Dec 23, 1919

VICTIM KNOWN HERE

Mrs. Mullenax of CDA visited in Sandpoint last summer.
Mrs. Mullenax, who was one of the victims of an awful tragedy at the Mullenax home near CDA last week, was a visitor in Sandpoint during the past summer. Mrs. Mullenax was living at the home of her son and daughter-in-law at the time of the crime in which the daughter in law suddenly became demented, and after killing her two children and pitching their bodies into the bay, she attacked her mother in law with and axe and nearly killd the elderly woman also.
The elder Mrs. Mullenax visited Mrs. S A Thomas of this city for a couple of months during the summer. She was here at the time of the homecoming celebration on July 11 and Mrs. Mullenax and Mrs. Thomas, during the later part of August, went to Kalispell, Mont., the old home of the Mullnaxes, and after visiting for a short time Mrs. Thomas returned to Sandpoint and Mrs. Mullenax went, a few weeks afterward, to CDDA to live with her son and daughter in law.

Mrs. Thomas has visited at the home of the Mullenaxes and says that the daughter in law has shown queer traits in the past, among them being a kind of hallucination that the elder Mrs. Mullenax had some hypnotic influence over her two young grandchildren and was trying to get them away from her – the mother. The younger Mrs. Mullenax would not let the grandmother touch the children.
I have the following undated (7 Jul 1920?), unsourced (a Coeur d'Alene newpaper?) obituary that mentions Mooney Undertaking parlors and Loff Bay Cemetery. Can anyone provide the source reference? Were Worthington Hospital and the Mooney establishment in Coeur d'Alene? Where was/is Loff Bay cemetery? Does it have a different name today? (Information about this man and other Beaudreaus is available in the "westscottstreet" database at wc.rootsweb.com.)

"Francis M. Beaudreau, 82 years of age, died at Worthington hospital yesterday morning of a complication of disease. The deceased had been a resident of Rockford Bay for the past eight years, where he is survived by one son, B. M. Beaudreau. Other relatives in the east survive the deceased. The remains were taken to Mooney Undertaking parlors, and prepared for burial. The funeral will be held from the Mooney Parlors tomorrow morning. The remains will be taken to the City dock, where they will be placed on the Steamer "Victor" at 11:00 o'clock for shipment to Loff Bay. The funeral will be held from Loff Bay school house at 1:00 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Rev. Hunter officiating. Interment will be made in the Loff Bay Cemetery."
I believe they immigrated in 1880 and settled in South Dakota where their daughter Elsa married Ole Garness.
There are so many Nelson families in the S.D. census and I'm not finding this family. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. Thank you.

Need death record for Matilda Jane Babbitt

In 2003, I wrote a query asking for help, since that time I have found a little more, but still not a death record for Matilda. All I know is that her mother stated in a Civil War pension packet that Matilda died in Coeur d' Alene about five or six years ago and was living in St. Maries, Idaho. (This was written in 1911, so she may have died about 1905 or 1906. Her mother could have been off a few years, too, so not sure what year.) I found that Matilda's husband, Sylvester Babbitt, remarried on 10 Jun 1908 in St. Maries to a Laura Madaline Williams. (A second marriage for both of them.) (I have posted on Benewah County site, too, for help. But, at the time of her death the county would have been Kootenai.) Laura Madaline Babbitt died on 4 Apr 1925 in St. Maries. Sylvester was still living in St. Maries on 1920 census, but cannot find any more information about him. Any information about this family would be appreciated. I did find a marriage record for Sylvester Babbitt and Matilda Jane Mann. They married on 11 Apr 1899 in Missoula County, Montana and then they moved to Idaho. The marriage record lists the parents of Sylvester M. Babbitt as Calvin E. Babbitt and Mary Jane Montonye. Hoping someone can help me with this mystery. Thanks.

Elva Thorn m. 12/20/1907 to Eugene M. Davis, Anna Thorn m. 9/17/1913 to Fred Griffing

My ancestor Francis Edwin Thorne had a brother William Allen Thorn. They were from Corning, Stueben Co., NY. I know that William Allen was married to Mary Rice, but that is all I know of their marriage. Both brothers lived in ID, WA and William was to have been in AK also. Francis Edwin's daughter to Hannah Van Winkle, his 1st wife, was Gertrude Harriet Thorne Webb and she was my grandmother. She and her husband Samuel Webb were in the 1810 census in Kootenai Co. and next door was her brother Frank Thorne. Frank was married to Eveline Ingersoll in Grand Rapids, MI. I am wondering if Elva and Anna could be daughters of Frank or his uncle William's. Would appreciate hearing from any one knowing of these families and I will share inf. I do have. These two marriages were in Kootenai Co., Elva's in Rathdrum and Anna's in Coeur D' Alene.
The 1910 census tells me that my g-grandfather, Harry C Latimer" lived with his family and children at the Railroad Construction Camp & worked as a Teamster -- Idaho, Kootenai County, Post Falls precinct.

I'd love it if anyone could point me in the direction of some answers? Or even some more questions? For example, where could I find more details about the camp, for example, what railroad? where was it? Was a new line being built or was this maintenance? Was there a school for the children? I'm wondering why the family moved from Michigan to Idaho? Did a lot of people move? Was it the railroad that recruited?

I'm trying to fill in the story.

Thanks,
Kathy

I have tracked Mattie and this is the only reference to George. She is noted as Widowed in the Seattle, King, WA 1920 Census.

If anyone knows of this man I would LOVE to hear from you.
Can any one help me in finding where he is buried or if there is an obit I might find where he was put to rest.
Susan (Susie) E. Foster was William Young's ex wife. They divorces in 1902 in Montana but I found her with her son Raymond in Kooteni County in 1920. It appears she passed away between 1920 and 1930 as William was living with the son in 1930. I have not been able to find a death for her nor where she has been buried. It appears she married to a Foster as her maiden name was Carthrae and she was from Sedalia, Missouri.
Can anyone help me with this information. I am unable to get to the vital statics as I live in British Columbia, Canada
Thanking you.

Searching for information on the family of James Russell Delp b. January 12, 1881 in Kylesford, Hancock County, TN. Married Anna Mildren Clark on 18 July 1905 in Granite, Idaho. Parents were: Abijah Christopher Delp and Mary Jane Vicars. James "Jimmy" was the half brother to: William Thomas Parks and Ira F. Parks. Information I now have states that James died August 18, 1936, but I do not know where (Town, County, and State) or where he might be buried. Known children are: Lloyd William Delp, E.L. Delp, Merl Leona Delp, and Charles O. Delp. Any information on any of these family members will be greatly appreciated. It took ages to find even the full name of this half brother due to circumstances when he was just a child. Thanks!

I am looking for information concerning a saw mill accident that occurred near Couer d' Alene Lake sometime between 1905 and 1910. A boy and a girl died. The boy may have been Clarence McCann, son of John Allie McCann and Lucy Jane Cowan. John and Lucy were living in Harrison, Id. and Lucy worked as a cook at the saw mill. Clarence is not listed on the 1910 census. Can any one help finding proof of this accident. Thanks,
David McCann

William A. & Hattie (Butterfield) Carter

I am in need of assistance to check Post Falls cemetery records for William A. and Hattie (Butterfield) Carter. I am assuming they may be buried at Evergreen cemetery.

I know William A. Carter and Hattie M. Butterfield married on 28 Oct 1901 at Rathdrum, Kootenal co., Idaho and that they were living there during the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census. They had three children:

1. William Lawrence (born abt 1904 in Canada & whom may have married Edna Winn on 21 Aug 1926 at Weiser, Washington co., Idaho)

2. Bessie M. (born abt 1910)

3. Lois I. (born abt 1919)

It appears Bessie May Carter died at Post Falls, Kootenal co., Idaho on 12/02/1949 -- but her birth date is listed as 8/1/1876 (which would have been her mother, Hattie's birth date not Bessie's birth date).

Would anyone be willing to look thru the Evergreen cemetery records, or county death records for William A. Carter and his wife, Hattie? If death dates are found, I'd like copies of obituaries.

Your time and expenses will be reimburese. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you!

Obit Look-up Please.....Marcelia SIMONS

I am hoping for a break through here. I need to obtain the obit for Marcelia Simons. She was born May 27, 1887 (to Karl "Charlie" Tapio and Hilda Bjork) and died April 1976 in Coeur D Alene, Kootenai, Idaho. I wish I had more but that is all the information that the SSDI index gives me. I am hoping to add a branch to my family with this information. Marcelia was my great grand aunt.

thanks to anyone who can help me.
