This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

1919: "I joined the lamb club because on our dry farm - sheep grazing country - there are lots of bum lambs. If someone does not rescue them, they die. I decided to rescue all I could. Papa called me at 4 a.m. to ride 10 or 12 miles to sheep camps. When I got a little lamb, I'd go home and feed it with a spoon until it was strong enough to suck on the bottle. Soon I turned lambs loose on the green pasture. . . .Coyotes are bad early in the morning and late at night. Sometimes I would take the gun and go keep the coyotes away. I raised 25 good lambs." -- Adaline Moses, 4-H, LaBelle, Idaho. "People & Programs" Winter 2012, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho.

Note: I am not related to Adaline.
George Anthony Willson d. 1907 in Grant, Jefferson County, Idaho - searching for obit

I am trying to clear up my confusion over the birth date and location of George Anthony Willson (also spelled Wilson) who was most likely born on March 3, 1821, however, some records indicate he was born in 1828. Other than that confusion, there is conflicting information about his birth location. Family tree records on ancestry.com state that he was born in Key West, Florida and this information matches information found on find-a-grave where his headstone is pictured. However, George's son, George Jr's death certificate shows that George Sr was born in Iowa...but this information was provided by George Jr's son, Hugh Willson...so it may not be accurate. My other source for information comes from census records. I cannot find the family in every census year, however, the 1860 and 1870 census records both show that George Sr was born in Kentucky...SO, I am confused...and the only way I can figure out to try to get to the bottom of the problem is to try to find George's obituary. I have tried to find a birth record in Florida and Kentucky, but neither place has records back to the 1820's. Idaho does not provide death records online - and I don't live in Idaho. If anyone has any information related to George Anthony Willson Sr, that can prove his birth location...and hopefully his birth date...I would very much like to hear from you. Thank you so much for your help.

I see this is your first posting on Rootsweb, at least under this user name. When you post, sometimes it helps to give the whole story. I'm "assuming" you are looking to find where a relative had lived, was born, died. It might help in this search for Bybee to know just who you seek. The name of Bybee might have been an area named for the resident family. It does not appear to have been incorporated.

The Jefferson Hills Golf Course is at 4074 E 500 N, Rigby
This aerial photo of that area (if the link maintains) shows the golf course and vicinity. If not use Mapquest.com and switch to Aerial map. But, since you've already visited the area, you know what it looks like.
http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?city=Annis&state=ID&amp...

I found the same area on a topo map, but it doesn't show Bybee, which is somewhat unusual to me to not have something like that appear.
http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=12&Z=12&X=53...

The US Geological Survey does not identify Bybee.

Census:
The 1930 had no Bybee, 2,504 in Rigby
The 1920 had no Bybee, 2,736 in Rigby
The 1910 had no Bybee, 1,335 in Rigby (Fremont, Co).
The 1900 had no Bybee, 595 in Rigby (Fremont, Co).
The 1880 had no Bybee, no Rigby. (It was founded in 1883, named after William F. Rigby, a prominent early settler and member of the LDS church.

There were no Bybee in Jefferson County, 1880, 1900, 1910. In 1920, there were 23 in Jefferson Co, 8 in Annis, 3 in Menan, the rest in Rigby. In 1930, there were 28 in Jefferson Co. Annis and Menan are north and northwest of Rigby.

The Bureau of Land Management has a database of land patents issued under the Homestead Act (and other Congressional land grant acts). It does not show a Bybee obtaining land in Jefferson County.
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx#searchTabI...

Books:
--Ancestors and Descendants of Elias Adams, the Pioneer. Dennis Farnsworth obtaining 160 acres of land in Jefferson County on 6/13/1919. It was located in Township 8-North, Range 36-East, Section 4. I did locate this land but it was quite removed from Rigby, and no Bybee was seen on the topo map.

For this information it appears you need someone more of a historian/genealogist.
I am trying to locate where Bybee, Idaho is. I was told that it was close to the Jefferson Golf Course and that there is a sign with the name on it. We are from Oregon and were out there this last week but evidently I don't take directions very well as we couldn't find it. It is supposed to be a "burgh" of Rigby. Does anyone have any information about this place?

Does anyone know of libraries or other repositories that contain city directories for this time period that cover Jefferson county?

I worked for The Rigby Star from mid-1956 until the fall of 1959, when I went away to college. It had been owned for several years by the Jones family — the descendants of two brothers, who were deceased when I went to work there. The editor and publisher was one of the grande dames of Idaho journalism, Hope Bennett Jones, the widow of one of the those brothers. She wrote a weekly column entitled "Here and There," and she was as good a columnist in that little town as Herb Caen was in San Francisco. She was feared as much as she was admired. She was a great and good woman and I loved her. One of my daughters, Ann Hope Doud Hernandez, shares her name. Hope's daughter, Jane Ann, went to Idaho State, got married, and probably sold the paper after Hope died. The other side of the family was represented by two brothers, Lawrence and Lyndon, who were the printers. They were all good Mormons and solid people, pillars of their community who left the town a better place because they lived and practiced local journalism there.

Although I don't live there anymore I grew up in Rigby, Idaho.
In regards to your question about the 'Rigby Star' Newspaper.
In the book, (The Hub of Eastern Idaho, A History of Rigby, Idaho, 1885-1976) on page 60 it reads, "J.W. Harry was persuaded to establish a newspaper by a group of concerned citizens. The newspaper was named 'The Rigby Star', with its first issue being dated March 5, 1903."

Hi Susan,
Take a look at findagrave.com If you type in George A. Willson in Idaho, you will find a picture of his headstone.

Also at familysearch.org you will find several George Anthony Wllson's for both in 1821 and 1828. It also shows the submitters of the info and maybe you could write to them for more onformation.

Good luck, Peggy

THANK YOU very much!!! I was still looking for information on George Willson...and what you sent was absolutely perfect!! The biggest problem, however, is that information found in the 1860 and 1870 census records show that he was born in Kentucky, not Florida...I cannot locate the family in the 1880 census...but in the 1900 census...it does show that George was born in Florida...but it also shows his birth information as March 1828, not 1821...how confusing!! No wonder I can never find anything on these families!!

Again, thank you so very much!! I cannot wait to search more on this family!! It is a great help to me!! I now have "proof" of some information and more information than I ever had before!!

Have a great day!!

Susan

Hi,
Hope you are still looking for info on George Anthony Wilson. According to the Sexton at the Grant Cemetery, he has the following info: George Anthony Wilson born 3 Mar 1821 Key West, Florida died 15 Jun 1907. Father Andrew M. Wilson/Willson Mother Ann Dee R. Tagnon Wife Louisa DeOrbuary ID# 124895. I don't know if this helps you or who filled out the information he had. Good Luck Peggy

Does anyone know when the "Rigby Star" (now "Jefferson Star") newspaper began?

The oldest microfilmed issues that I've been able to find date back to 1906. Meanwhile, I'm trying to find an article that would have been published in October 1904...that is, if the newspaper was even around then.

From what I've found, it seems the newspaper has gone through several name changes: Rigby Star, The Star, Jefferson County Star, Jefferson Star.

And if the Rigby newspaper wasn't around in 1904, does anyone know what would have been the "go to" paper for Jefferson County happenings?
