My g g grandfather, David Patterson died in May of 1866 in Idaho, coming to Idaho to mine for gold according to family lore. According to a probate record, r/t guardianship of his son, David's death place was given as Montana Idaho. Of course, I haven't been able to find such a place, however, I recently discovered Mount Idaho, Idaho. From the research I have done, there was mining going on during the period he was there, (1865-1866) It was said he was killed by someone while mining. I don't know if that is true or not. However, I believe that someone in the family was with him, perhaps his brother John or Thomas, because, his personal effects were returned to his home in Licking Co., Ohio, in a trunk that David had made. We also have a death date from family records and the probate record, so I believe someone he knew was with him. David's wife had diedi n Illinois in 1864. Their son was only 4 years old when David died.
I though there might be some information that would help me further the research.... Maybe a cemetery record, or infromation from an early newspaper. Any information would be appreciated.
