PRESTON — Edward Darwin Tyler, 77, former Virginia, Idaho, and Rockland, Idaho resident, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston. He was born December 15, 1924, in Rockland, Idaho, the eldest child to Edward Clinton and Blanche Marie Bright Tyler. He graduated from Rockland High School and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Nancy Alice White on June 4, 1944. They were the parents of five children. They were later divorced. He married Dorothy Arlene Smith on Sept. 23, 1967, in Boise, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden, Utah LDS Temple. He and Dorothy lived in Boise, Idaho, Council, Idaho, then Kaysville, Utah, for many years. They moved to Virginia, Idaho, in 1983, where they lived until September 2001, when they moved to Preston, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Preston; children, Daniel (DeLoyce), Superior, Montana, Greg (Ileene), Heyburn, Idaho, Lynette (Alan) Kartchner, Brigham City, Utah, and Wes (Paula), Roy, Utah; a daughter-in-law, Sharlene Tyler, Payson, Utah; stepchildren, Dale (JoAnn) Austin, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Richard (Mary) Austin, South Carolina, Raymond (Linda) Austin, Salt Lake City, Utah, Lane (Ethyl) Austin, California; and a sister, Faye Jennings, Eugene, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother, Marvin Tyler, a son, Darrell Clinton Tyler, a grandson, Daniel R. Tyler, and by a great-granddaughter, Katelyn DeLoyce Tyler.

He raised mules and Jacks for many years. He was a horseman‚ through and through. He loved the out-of-doors. He was a bricklayer, homesteaded in Minidoka, Idaho, worked for the BLM and was a custodian for school districts in Idaho and Utah. He was an active member of the LDS Church, where he served in many positions, most recently as a faithful home teacher.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Greg Griffeth conducting. Friends may call Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Rockland, Idaho Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
