Ross Wynn, 91, of Ashton, Idaho, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his home of natural causes. He was born December 14, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Paul Wynn and Ellen Hemsley Wynn. He was the eldest son born into a large and loving family. At a young age, the family moved to Preston, Idaho, where he spent his youth learning the value of hard work in his father's hardware store and playing equally as much. He loved to fish and hunt. It was during this time that he discovered a passion that would last his entire lifetime. Flying. He earned his pilot's license at the age of 16.

Ross received his schooling in Preston and following high school graduation, at the age of 17, enlisted in the Navy. Upon his return, he attended BYU in Provo, Utah.

He married Thayle Beckstead on January 17, 1947. He and Thayle fulfilled several missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1949, they moved to Ashton where they built and owned a hardware and furniture store, which is still in the family. Ross was very involved in the community of Ashton and served in several civic organizations. He was involved in the scouting program and was proud that all six of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Ross was an active member of his church, where he served faithfully in many callings in various organizations.

After retiring, Ross and Thayle enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona, with the many friends they made there. Family was very important to Ross and he spent his lifetime teaching and enjoying his kids.

Ross is survived by his children; daughter-in-law Debbie (Paul, deceased), Scott (Marie) Wynn of Schaumburg, Illinois, Loila Wynn of Rigby, Idaho, Venis (Justin) McCarthy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kathy (Spencer) Felix of Rigby, Idaho, Todd (Hideko) Wynn and Alan (Sue) Wynn of Salem, Oregon, Brian Wynn of Pocatello, Idaho, Sam (Stacy) Wynn of Ashton, Idaho; siblings, Irene Godfrey of Orem, Utah, Val Wynn of Escondido, California, and Jeannie Derricott of Lehi, Utah; 40 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thayle Wynn; son, Paul Wynn; son-in-law Dale Clark; sisters, June Winward, Mary Ellen Peterson, and Anne Gooch; and brothers Bob Wynn and David Wynn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, at the Ashton LDS Stake Center, 516 North 2nd Street, with Bishop Jim Jorgensen officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., both will be held at the Ashton LDS Stake Center. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by the Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion.
