Murray,UT- Mazel Martin Shaffer passed away on Sunday. He was born in Preston, Idaho to Parley J. and Florence Martin Shaffer, (along with his twin brother Neil.)
He attended school in Preston and graduated from Preston High in 1951. He also attended college at the University of Utah. Mazel joined the U.S. Coast Guard and spent 4 years serving his country. He then served an LDS mission in the South Eastern United States.
He married Gale Marie Smith on October 21, 1958. Together they had a daughter, Robyn Shaffer. They were later divorced. He married Kitty Willis Dirickson in 1963. They had 2 children, Steven and Kelly. He also adopted her 3 children, Susan, Judy, and Wendy. They were later divorced.
He married Carol Jean Silva on September 11, 1978. They were later sealed in the Washington Temple. Their family includes a son, Mark David Shaffer, and Carol's two daughters, Vicki Bissett Rhea and Shelly Bissett.
Mazel worked in multiple states selling insurance and real estate franchises. He was a regional manager for La Salle Extension University for several years. Mazel loved sports. He loved football, basketball, skiing and playing racquetball. He played football in high school and college until an accident prevented him from continuing. He was a member of the Murray 12th LDS Ward. Mazel loved the gospel and served in many callings during his lifetime.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephews, Clair Shaffer, Craig Shaffer and their families.
The funeral will be held at the Murray 12th LDS Ward building, 363 East Vine Street, on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 12 noon, with the viewing prior to service from 11.00 to 11:45 am. Interment: Murray City Cemetery. Share online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com
