Our loving mother, Katherine (Kay) Cook, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, June 14, 2009, in
Preston,
Idaho. Mom was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in
Burley,
Idaho, the daughter of John Phillip
Koster and Josephine Jane
McFarland. She attended
Ogden City schools and was in the first graduating class of
Ogden High School in 1939. On March 12, 1946, she married Herbert Curtis Day. Two daughters were born of this union. Herbert died on Jan. 16, 1950. Katherine then married Howard Wayne Cook on April 19, 1952. Howard brought a son to this union and together they had two more daughters. She was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. Over the years Mom has been active in the
League of Women Voters, the Klunkers Klub, the
Daughters of the
Nile, Beta Sigma Phi and the Railroad Widows Club. She dearly loved her bridge and birthday clubs and all her dear friends she's made over the years. Other interests include: sewing, cooking and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Four sisters and one grandson preceded her in death. Torrance, Calif.; Christine (Jay)
Behling of
Chatsworth, Calif.; Pamela (Richard)
Stromberg of
Layton, Utah; JoRene (Harvey)
Tanner of
Preston, Idaho; and Candace (Kim) Kennard, American
Fork, Utah; 28 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Gloria, Helen and Marge and her brothers, John, Bob, Richard and
Rey. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the
Larkin Mortuary, 496 24th St., Ogden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, in the Forest
Ridge Ward, 1954 E. Antelope Dr., Layton, with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the
