Most libraries have microfilms, but most do not do obituary lookups due to the time cost, and most library workers don't want to stare at microfilms all day doing lookups. The Historical Society charges $10.00 in research fees (payable even if they don't find one), plus copy fee, mail fee. If they don't find one, you are being dependent on the person looking. I just recently exchanged emails with a person that had paid for an obit, one wasn't found. She found one later, in the same area, same newspaper as requested.

So, first, let's do some background:

The Social Security Death Index shows a Raye Suddreth, born 3 May 1916, died 16 Nov 2000. "Last residence" was in Burley, Cassia Co, ID. The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT always where the person actually lived, or had lived when they had died. The Social Security Administration calls this as "home of record." This address could be for a number of things besides where they actually lived. This person had SSN 519-01-7278, issued in Idaho before 1951.

There is a Ray E. Suddreth, born about 1916, enlisted into the military in 1941.

A Ray E. Suddreth, born 3 May 1916 was living at 524 Lincoln Ave, Grangeville, ID in 1982 and in 1993.

US Phone and Address Directory:
Identified he lived in Garden Valley, Idaho, from 1996-2002 (name probably still in the directory due to his spouse (Vivian) still residing at the address).

Ray E. Suddreth, born 3 May 1916, died 16 Nov 2000, is buried in the Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road, Boise, ID, 83704. He was a Captain in the US Army Air Corp WWII.

There is a family tree posted online that has this person. It shows a wife and three male children "living." This family tree identified he died in Grangeville.

There appears to be enough background information to indicate you won't find an obit in Burley, but in Grangeville, Idaho County, ID. There is one volunteer that looks for obits in the Idaho Free Press on the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness:

For his family: www.zabasearch.com Just enter last name and Idaho.
