Mellie Elizabeth
Humphreys, 82; of
Soda Springs passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Mellie was born November 13, 1926 the daughter of Peter and
Harriet Skinner
Thomsen in Eightmile,
Idaho.
She lived in Eightmile until 1946 when she moved to
Conda, where she lived until 1954 when she moved to
Soda Springs. She graduated from
Soda Springs High School.
She married Howard Dean
Humphreys August 14, 1946 in
Soda Springs,
Idaho and were later solemnized in the
Idaho Falls LDS
Temple. Dean passed away January 6, 1989.
Mellie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints and served in various positions in the Primary, Library, Relief Society and Cub Scouts.
She was a member of the D.U.P. and
Royal Neighbors of
America, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, American War Mothers and was a volunteer at the D.U.P. Museum in
Soda Springs.
She enjoyed quilting and making quilts for her family, playing cards and watching TV Game
Shows.
Mellie is survived by three sons and two daughters, Samuel & Verlene
Humphreys of
Soda Springs, ID; Steven &
Patti Humphreys of Grace, ID; Charles & Lisa
Humphreys of Georgetown, ID;
Penney Humphreys of Roy,
Washington St.; and Tammy & Dan
Merrill of
Soda Springs, ID; and two grandsons that Mellie raised, Forriest
Humphreys and Brian
Humphreys. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Macks
Thomsen and Peter
Thomsen and one sister Mary Jane
Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson, Brad Humphreys; a brother,
Taft Thomsen and a sister Ingaberg West.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the
Soda Springs LDS
Stake Center at Noon. Family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening at the
Sims Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday morning at the
Stake Center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in
Soda Springs.
