DOWNEY — Leona Berniece McKee Davis, 84, longtime Downey resident, passed away on June 18, 2008, in a local nursing home. She was born August 18, 1923, in Pioneer, Washington, a daughter of Nelson and Emiline Brothers McKee.
Leona married Morris Davis July 24, 1941, and they lived in Soda Springs, Springfield and for the past 48 years in the Virginia/Downey area. Morris passed away in 1987.
Leona worked as an LPN nurse at the Marsh Valley Hospital in Downey for over 40 years. Following the closure of the Marsh Valley Hospital, she worked for several years at the Oneida County Hospital in Malad, when she retired due to ill health.
Leona was known to everyone in the area for her caring, loving service to others. She loved life, was a great cook and enjoyed traveling and seeing the beauty of nature. She also loved time spent with family and friends. Leona was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Davis of Sparks, Nevada; a daughter, Marie (Michael) Eckert of Newbury Park, California; several nephews and nieces in the Ridgefield, Wash., area. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Morris, daughter-in-law, Melinda Lyn Roberts-Davis, a sister, Ruby Osterberg and brothers, Bill McKee, Leon McKee and Willard McKee.
For the past three years Leona had resided at the Beacon Hospital-Rehab. A special thanks to everyone at Beacon and Creekside Hospice for their loving care and kindness in her final days.
Special appreciation to Pearlene Hernandez, a loving niece.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at noon in Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Drive, Arimo. Friends may visit with family on Saturday prior to services from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Aberdeen Cemetery.
