Taylor is a community just south and east of Idaho Falls, or just south of Ammon, Idaho. It was settled by second-generation Utah pioneers in the 1880s. They homesteaded, cleared land, built canals, and were organized into an LDS branch by John W. Taylor. In 1886 they named the branch Taylor after John W. Taylor, who was an apostle and son of Church President John Taylor. As I am writing a history of Bonneville County, I have worked with Doyle Arave, who knows about Taylor families. The names you gave are of Taylor and Shelley (just north of Taylor). He said you may telephone him; he lives in Idaho Falls.

Hi Mary. I hope you are well. As usual, things have been busy. I much prefer a slower pace of life but that is not what I have! Just wanted to let you know that I have not forgotten you! I gave your number to my sister Rosemarie - she will probably call you to chat. She (very) recently moved to Austin, Texas (she is moving into her new home on Friday) and I hope I can get her to do some research on Thompson. She has never done family history but is very interested in it. She was quite excited to hear that I had found a relative in Mississippi! So, I am off to California tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with my mother. I hope you have a nice holiday.

I received your packet and want to thank you so much! Everything was wonderful - I never thought I would be able to find the Smiths, and now I have pictures and so much information. I will call my aunt in Arizona to see if she can answer your questions. I look forward to talking to you again.

I am sending a package of material today via mail. I do not have a scanner so I cannot do photos.
I do not do my genealogy the correct way as you do, but you can get the information my way.
In Emily C. Van Vleet, Smith, Blair's obit she was survived by her husband, 2 daughters, by Mrs Eby and Mrs Fred Bouche.
Was Martha married to Fred Bouche when Emily died in 1922?
Received your info and photos. What beautiful people!
I became so happy and emotional to see a photo of Oliver
Thompson Smith. I noticed the "big hands" just like my dad and the Smiths! Since he died in 1904, the photo was made turn of the century, probably long before since he has born in 1857.
On one of the photo you asked "who is Josie?"
Oliver Thompson, just Thompson on the 1860 Jefferson, White Sulphur Springs, Arkansas census, had 3 children:
Emma Josephine,(married an Eby) Martha Jane, and Oliver Edmund or "Eddie" (never married).
Oliver Edmund died at age 31 I believe of Brights disease.
He was un married.
There is too much to tell, can you call me on weekends? If you will call, I will then call you back. 662-256-2316
I am sorting through your material, have lots of questions. Maybe we can come up with time lines.
I have a lapse in where Josephine, and Thompson, son, were between 1862 and 1867 where she rejoined her people that had arrived in Salt Lake UT.
Thank you a million, will contact you again soon.

The only information I have is that no one in the family knew what happened to Jennie Bagley - there were notes in my grandmother's files that stated her alias was Hazel McDonald. I would be anxious to know if these were actually two individuals instead of the one that we have assumed.... Hope we can share information..

I understand, mine is coming 7-28 for 4 days. I will be totally wiped out. I was born 2-28-1935 to Eulis S. Smith born 11-22-1896 and Ada Elizabeth McWhirter Smith b.5-26-1901. I am 6th of 8 children reared on a farm near Aberdeen, MS. Thompson Smith and Josephine had a farm nearby, but sold it in 1859 and left for whereever. Thompson's children never heard from him again. I found him last in the 1860 Arkansas census with Josephine, Oliver Thompson and Mary Texana. According to the Lowry history, thompson and Mary Texana died in 1863. My grandfather was William Tillman Smith born 1854, son of William S.Smith b.1827 who was the elder brother to Thompson.
I would appreciate any photos or history that you would send electronically or snail mail. I will be happy to remit.
my address is Mary Louise Hanson, 61095 Hwy 278 East, Amory, MS.
A lady in Montano sent me information that is available on internet. I do not have s subscription to Ancestry because Icannot afford it.
If you have it she suggested this file to obtain information:My ancestors and descendants family tree.trees.ancestry.com/tree/17357492/person/499706989 which is the tree for Zilpha May Billman b. 15 Feb 1902 Collier-Stewart Family Tree
She also sent me Martha Jane Billman:
My ancestors and descendants familyl tree.trees.ancestry.com/tree/1474478/person/1851679115
I called the nearest Mormon Library in Columbus, MS but she did not know if she could get it or not. Their internet was down and she did not know when it would be fixed.
Do you know if one can purchase these files?
Advise me what you want next.
Thanks for your reply. I had feared that I was going to be dropped again by Oliver Thompson's family.
Oliver Thompson Smith's father Thompson Smith b. 1806 SC and died 1863 (death came from Josephine Lowry's sister Emaline Lowry Lloyd's book. It is quite interesting.
I will copy it and mail it to you if you so desire.
Thompson married first Martha Ann Adams b. 1806 TN, they married in TN, and came through Alabama and settled in Monroe Co. Ms ,which borders Alabama, about 1830. His father was John Smith and mother Sarah maiden unknown. John and Sarah came with Thompson and brothers, Nathan,George Washington, Joel (according to Lowry History Joel Smith married Elvira Adams in TN, sister to Martha Ann Adams.
There was a yellow fever epidemic in 1853 and we believe Martha died then.
My great grandfather, William S. Smith was the oldest born in 1827 AL, Howard b. 1828; Adline b. 1830; James born 1831; Sarah Elizabeth b.1834; Thomas Abraham b. 1835; and John born 1842 (died in Civil War 1862.
I am away from my records so wait until I mail you some correct date information. ha
Thompson remarried in1855 to Josephine Lowry. They had two children: Oliver Thompson Smith b. 1857 and Mary Texana b. 1858. In 1859 Thompson sold his farm in Monroe Co. MS (where i live) and they left for parts unknown. The Smith history says they never heard from him again.
I found them in the 1860 Arkansas, Jefferson Co. White Sulphus Springs, census. All four of them are named with ages.
The Lowry History says "Thompson and Mary Texana died in 1862 04 1863 in Mississippi". But, I do not believe it.
The Lowry History says Josephine and Oliver Thompson had caught up with her people in Salt Lake City, Utah by 1867.
The Smith's bought land and farmed before the Civil War.
I will examine and look at your history, I do appreciate it.
A Fotopolous lady had a message on the Monroe Co. site that she had photos of Oliver Thompsons family that she would share. But, I could never get them even after mailing her the Smith history.
Do you have some photos? I only have a photo of William S Smith, my great and Thomas A.Smith, and Adline and Sarah.
The two males that died in the Civil War as single men and Howard who returned home after the Civil War died in 1871.
I own land that once belonged to William S. Smith. He purchased it in 1877.
Yes, I agree with you, Martha had a hard life.It has just been in the last 65 years that life has been good, and most oof that on borrowed money.
Thank you for your information.
So sorry this took so long. I live outside of Salt Lake City where our summers are very short. When the weather is nice - not too hot or too cold - all our time is spent doing gardening and yard work!

So, here goes!

Martha Jane Smith married Andrew Jackson Billman on July 4, 1900 in Taylor, Bingham County,ID. They divorced about 1825. She later married Sam Singleton.

Martha and Andrew had 6 children. I can give you some information now and some later when I find it. I am new to organizing my history and am in the process of getting it all in order!

1. Zilpha May - my paternal grandmother. Born Feb 15, 1902. I will give more of her information below.

2. Juanita Cathern - b. 22 Aug 1904 Idaho Falls,Id

3. Lester James - b. 10 Aug 1906 Livingston Montana
d. 18 May 1907 Livingston Montana

4. Elma Viola - b. 9 April 1910 Idaho Falls, ID

5. Glenn Thompson - b. 7 March 1912 Idaho Falls, ID
He is buried in Ucon, ID

6. Alta Josephine - b. 27 Aug 1914 Idaho Falls, ID

My grandmother told me she was born in Taylor, ID. Some records say Idaho Falls. I think this is because Taylor doesn't exist anymore. She married Constantine Fotopoulos (a Greek immigrant) 4 Nov 1918 in Livingston, Montana. He was working on the railroad and met her as he was passing through. They moved to Chicago, where he had emigrated to. They had six children. Her life was hard. My grandfather was very "old country". He finally left the family around the time WWII started. She died in Missoula, Montana 25 Jan 1994. Zilpha was a very talented and loving grandmother. She lived with her children until about 1967 when she became a cook for the priests in Livingston. When her son Angelo moved up to Montana she moved in with him. Her last few years were in a nursing home in Missoula. She was cremated and her ashes are buried in rural Turah, Montana. Here are her children, all born in Chicago:

1. Elias Constantine - my dad! b. 12 Aug 1920 in Chicago
d. 29 July 1983 My dad also went by the names of Lee and John-Lee.

2. Andrew - b. 1922 d. 1984

3. Audrey - b. 1924

4. Martha - b. 1926

5. Angelo - b. 1928

6. Danny - b. 1929 d. 1974

There are lots and lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as you can imagine. My parents had five children. We moved from Chicago to California in 1962. I have sisters in Idaho and Oregon and a brother and sister in California. I have lived in many places over the years. I spent two years in Birmingham, AL. This was before I knew I had southern roots. I can't wait to hear as much as you care to tell me! I loved the south!

I have found some information on the internet that says Thompson was born in South Carolina and that he died in 1863 in the war. Any clarification? Any information on his parents? Please tell me about you!

Thank you for the history. You have done a lot of research, and I am overwhelmed by it. I do not have Ancesty.com because of the cost, so I cannot get into the family trees.
I ordered some info from the Mormon Library, but none of this information was on the CD. This was about 8 years ago.
It has been a 10 year struggle to little advantage. But, I am happy to get any crumb.

I am so happy you have replied to my posting.
I will be gladly exchange information with you.
I found a person a few years ago, but she received my information on the Smiths and then dropped out of sight.
She was Debbie Photofolus (missedspelled) who was in Idaho and moved to Georgia.
I descend from the oldest son of Thompson and his first wife, Martha Ann Adams. She died in 1853 and in 1855 Thompson married Josephine Lowry who was only 2 years older than Thompson's oldest son.
He sold his farm in Monroe Co.MS and he left with Josephine and their two children, Oliver Thompson and Mary Texana Smith. I found them last on the 1860 Jefferson county, AR. census. Their full names and ages are on it.
The archives in Idaho has sent me some Obits, and a nice gentleman went to the cemetery in Idaho Falls, Id. and took a photo of Oliver Thompson's grave for me. What a thrill!
God has some good people out there!
I will look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you again.
Smith cousin,
Mary Hanson
I was looking for a crumb and a banquet appeared.
I hope to find a live person, with all of this, I could realize it.
This family, Oliver Thompson Smith, left Mississippi in 1859 and no one ever knew his location. That is what my great grandfather had in his bible. "They left for parts unknown" and were never heard of again.
In humble gratitude.

Google Bessie Thompson Horning. She was my stepgrandmother. She married J. Lee Horning. My mother Lucille was her step-daughter who is listed in their records and 4 Brotherton children were listed in some of their census records with their ages.

d_ehli@hotmail.com

Looking for information about an Oscar Holm from Sweden. I know his dad's name is Lars Johan Holm from Sweden. I have attached a picture of Oscar, he is in the front on the far right side. The younger person next to and behind him is his son, I don't know what his name is and would really like to find that out too. I also believe his wife's name is Martha, but don't know what her maiden name is.

I don't care what you have anything will help, even if it is a guess or just something that you may have heard.

Thanks.

This isn't really related to genealogy but I was wondering if anybody knew anything about some ice caves not far from Idaho Falls. Over 50 years ago I went through them and can't remember where they were - they were breathtaking to say the least. Thanks.

Carolyn at Mooloolaba@aol.com
