I have 39 photos from the Horseshoe Bend Pioneer Cemetery, 63 photos from the Boise County Pioneer Cemetery in Idaho City and 18 photos from just around Idaho City hosted on photobucket. Please visit: http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/angirie/

You will have to type in a password: history

I am not related to any of the surnames in the photos. I just like history, cemetery hopping and taking photos. If there is a headstone you are looking for that I don't have you can send me a request and I will try to find it the next time I am up that direction.

Enjoy!
Angela

David Coughanour death 1904

Payette Independent
Payette, Idaho
Friday, August 5, 1904

Death of Dave Coughanour.

The Boise Statesman of Wednesday give the following account of the death of David Coughanour of Quartzburg, an uncle of W. A. Coughanour of Payette and well known in this city:

David Coughanour, whose name had been synonymous with mining development in the Boise Basin for 40 years, died yesterday morning at his home in Quartzburg. Hope for his recovery was abandoned some time ago and for several days prior to his demise he had been unconscious. The direct cause of his death was cancer, from which he had suffered acutely for years. He vainly sought relief at the hands of noted physicians but medical science would not stay the progress of the affliction.

David Coughanour was a native of Pennsylvania and came to the Basin in 1863. His first mining work in the district was performed on the Banner Hill property. He was prominent in the organization of the Gold Hill Mining company in 1866.

The Gold Hill was worked by Mr. Coughanour, his nephew, W. A. Coughanour, and others for many years and yielded handsomely.

Of late years Mr. Coughanour had been interested in several Basin properties of value, notably the Iowa, Ebenezer and Belshazzar.

The town of Quartzburg was laid out by Mr. Coughanour and a number of pioneers, including Mayor Hawley of Boise.

Mr. Coughanour possessed all the substantial and lasting good qualities characteristic of Idaho pioneers. He was never known to betray a friend or refuse to go down in this pocket when aid was required of him. Resolute and determined he stood by the state, his interests and his friends in storm and calm and his memory will be kindly cherished by thousands who admired his many manly qualities.
Hello! I am trying to track down an ancestor who, according to documents dated September 1899, lived in "...Colled, Boise Co., Idaho...". The ancestor's name is John MURRAY and he was born in Ireland circa 1830 (+/- 10 yrs). A search of the 1900 census does not turn him up or anyone matching his profile. In addition, I googled the town [Colled, Boise Co., Idaho] and got no results. I am starting to believe that the town doesn't exist!

Can someone out there help?

I am searching for information about my grandmother who possibly was born in Boise, Idaho. I have also been told (many years ago) that her father or grandfather was the Mayor of Boise or the Governor of Idaho. It is possible she went by her middle name rather than her first. She died around 1963 at a very young age, when my father was 18, in California. She was married to Muriel Moore, not sure of the dates or the location of that event. I've researched names of Boise Mayors, but did not find any with the last name of Harris. It is possible the politician wa on her maternal side, which I am currently at a dead end with. Any help is appreciated.

Hello !
I am looking for information about a person named Ole Martin Olsen born about 1873 in Norway.
He was a cousin of my grandfather, and emigrated to USA in (or after) 1901. He came from Sveio area near the city Haugesund.
In Boise county WW1 Archives I find This name :
"Ole Martin Olsen born : 1 Jan 1884, citizen of Norway.
In Boise county, PIONEER CEMETERY Horseshoe Bend, Idaho I find this:Ole M. OLSEN, born:1/1/1884 and died: 4/8/1971
I am now wondering if it could be any connection here, and if anybody have information about this person.
I know it very very difficult to find a person with such name. He could also have used "OLE Olsen" in USA, and then there are hundreds of people with that name. I am just hoping that he used "Ole Martin", then it will be a little bit easier.

Helga Kallevik
Norway

The federal census for 1900 shows a Frank Garinger living in Omega precinct, Boise County. He is 29 years old, single, born in Pennsylvania, and a partner to Herman Fisher at an occupation that is too faint to read in the census.

Any information about him that would prove, or disprove, that he was living in eastern Montana in 1914 would be appreciated.

Andrew McPherson, farming in "Gardhain?" Valley, Boise Co. in 1885

Andrew McPherson, born about in 1861 in Nova Scotia, a younger brother of my great-grandfather, left his home after 1881, reached Idaho via British Columbia, and was last heard of farming in Boise County in 1885. It was probably not his own farm. Perhaps he was in Garden Valley, but the way he wrote it looked more like Gardhain. If anyone runs across a trace of him I'd love to hear from them. Thanks. No one in our family knows what became of him.
