Thetis Coppage Kincaid McClosky Brown was my mother's uncle. His father was Archibald Horatious Foratios Marcus de Lafayette Brown, known as "Lafe" Brown, or A.L. Brown. His mother was Ellen Coppage Brown. Family records show his birth as Sept. 18, 1881. He moved from Marion county, Kentucky, between 1910 and 1914. My mother, Rhoda Marple Wooley, told me years ago that this uncle and his first wife had two young children at the time my mother was about four years old. (My mother was born in 1909.) Mother never knew exactly what happened to him or the children. His second wife was Lillie Ellen Merrit. In my research I find that he and Merrit had two children, Ellen and James Thetis.

I just saw your query on Albert S. Dickenson. I am the granddaughter of Goldie Dickenson Metcalf. My grandmother passed away in 1998 at the age of 93. Great-Aunt Mazie passed away in the late 1960's. My dad thinks Mazie is buried in Burly, Idaho, her husband's name was Ed Cole, and had 3 children; Bill, Virginia, Linda. Goldie was married to Otho Metcalf and had 7 children; Maxine, Robert, Betty, Barbara, Lois, Clara, and Garland. My father is Garland. Hi there, I see you have the link above provided by another member. State Hospital South is a mental health hospital. There is a cemetery there, but many of the graves are unmarked and they are in the process of trying to erect small headstones for all people buried there.

A US county often recorded where a person who died in that county was buried. You should start with research in the records of her county of death.

Otto appears in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 US censuses in Idaho. Checking those will answer your question about him. It also appears that his death record is listed in the free databases of the FamilySearch.org website.

Her marriage record to Otto Ludvig Kristofersen in Vestre Aker church, Oslo, Norway 8 Dec 1872 lists her as (widow) Olava Petrea Jakobine Jensdatter. Various entries for her online list various birth years but most agree with the 26 March.

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

I'm trying to find out where a family member is buried in Blackfoot, Bingham County, Idaho. She died in 1935 and on her death certificate it shows her burial in Blackfoot, ID as buried in the "state cemetery" but when searching for cemeteries in Blackfoot I don't show any cemeteries with this name and I'm wondering if this was re named or where she could be buried. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Mary Young born 1868 in Arkansas married to H.C. Young. She died at 67. She died on October 27, 1935 in Nampa Idaho and was buried in Blackfoot, Idaho in "state cemetery"

Thank you for all the help. You did give me somethings to check into, that I had not found before. Some that I have not found in the 5 years I have been trying to research these two (Mary Jane Davidson and William Edward Hammond Senior) I can not even prove if the William Hammond's I think I found two of them were his father. Someone from Idaho had given me information about a William Hammond's death in a railroad accident within 7 years (If I remember right)of William Jr.being born, in a county close by. If I could only find were he was when William junior was born I might be able to prove something. I have been unable to locate any land purchase or anything in Bingham County, Idaho. The Birth Certificate of William Jr was signed by Maryette Davidson (His aunt) 50 years after he was born.

You have given me more help than anyone has. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

On 6/30/1879, William G. Davidson, obtained 80 acres of land locate at Township 4 North, Range 2 East, Section 29, the West half of the North East Quarter of the Section (W1/2NE1/4). A Section is a square mile, 640 acres, a quarter section is 160 acres, half a quarter section is 80 acres.

You will see red colored squares on these topographic maps, those are Sections. You'll see a red colored "29" in the center of this square. That is Section 29. If you divide this square into quarters, look at the top right quarter. Divide it in half vertically. He owned the left half (west half) of this quarter. That is the W1/2NE1/4 as described above. The land is in the area of where you see "Hill" for Hill Road and part of the Collister School area. You can zoom out (top left of the map) to see the entire area. (Again, this topo map is as of the date it was made, it does NOT show the area as it did in 1879).

After this, I'm stopping, there are far to many factors that don't appear to connect in the various family trees. This woman that died in Canada in 1911 is clearly not the correct person, and it appears you have already confirmed that issue. You seem to know what you're doing.

Thank you. You have given me something to go on. Yes he did Marry Florence because that is my husband's grandmother. I Mary Jane Davidson that died in Canada is a different Mary Jane. I have already ruled her out with getting her death certificate from Canada. Thank you so very much.

I found the Davidson Family Tree, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/25636972/person/1684739683 which contains info about Mary Jane Davidson. It says that she married William Edward Hammond (no birth or death info provided).

In 1870 Mary Jane was living with her family in Payette Valley, Boise, Idaho Territory.
Wm G. Davidson, b. KY, 31, farmer.
Sarah J., b. OR, 18, keeping house.
Wm Arthur, b. ID, 3.
Mary Jane, b. ID, 2.

In 1880 the family was living in Ada Co., ID. Two more children were added; Alfred & James.

I searched Ancestry, Familysearch and Western State Marriage Index but didn't find the marriage record. Idaho didn't require marriage records on a state level until 1947. Mary might have married William between 1880 and before 1911 when she died in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
I couldn't verify her death info either.

You can post on the Alberta, Canada Message Board on how to verify her death.

I couldn't verify this info because Idaho doesn't release death info until 50 years after the event. There is an obituary volunteer for Bannock Co. at the same web site mentioned above.

I hope finding the obituaries will help you fill in more blanks.

The first William Edward Hammond was very elusive and moved around a lot. People who moved frequently are the hardest to find. Successful Searching!

The Family Tree shows he married Florence Idona Luman but I don't think so. I couldn't find their marriage info.

Looking for any information on my family in Franklin (Oneida/Bingham County), Idaho. This is one of the farthest south points of Idaho at the border of Utah and once was disputed as Utah. In June 1872, Franklin was officially considered over a mile north of the border.

Joseph Younger Mayberry and Charlotte Olafson (immigrated from Sweden) married Jan 4, 1864 near Salt Lake City (mill Creek), Utah.

Some of their children:

Josephine Olafson Mayberry was born on January 30, 1865.

In 1860, 60 families lived and gathered together to protect their community from the "shadow of a large hill known as Lookout Mountain, a local high point used by scouts to watch for marauding bands of Shoshone Indians."

In 2010, "a group gathered at the old Muddy River, the stream that flows nearby on its way to the Bear River which is now known as the Cub River. State Hospital South looking to create headstones for all burials

I've seen several postings for people looking for relatives buried in Blackfoot at what was once called the Insane Asylum. The above news story discusses a goal to erect headstones for the more than 1000 people buried there, of which only 20 have headstones now.

"Hospital administrators and staff are on a mission to change that. They're looking for monetary and material donations from the community to put headstones on 982 plots and build a memorial for the 40 without a recorded space."

Leo Fern was my grandfather. He moved from Idaho to McMinnville, Oregon, in the late teens. He was a merchant there until retirement in the late 50's. He was mayor of McMinnville for a short time after his retirement. Died about 1972. Anything else you would like to know?

I am looking for any information on Mary Jane Davidson B Feb 6 1969. I have that she may have married a William Edward Hammond. I delayed birth certificate on William Edward Hammond JR. b Jul 22, 1888/1889 signed by his Aunt 30 years later said this was his father and born on the family farm. I can not find any records on the father and no records on Mary Jane after 1880. She was born in Bingham County, Idaho and so was William jr.

I just looked at his birth certificate again and it states William was the forth child. Since this was a delayed Certificate I am really wondering if the birth fathers name is correct.

Word reached this city yesterday that William Hammond, brakeman had been killed in a freight accident on Fossil hill, east of Montpelier. He was thrown under the cars and sustained injuries from which he died soon after.

Deceased was well known in this city, having lived hee for many years. He was a brother of Mrs. J.M. Clark.

I am trying to find William Edward Hammond born about 1859. Everything that I have found leads to him being born in Blackfoot, Idaho on a reservation. He is the father to William Edward Hammond Jr. and his wife was Mary Jane Davidson. William Jr was born in Blackfoot, Bingham County, Idaho. Any help would be very appreciated. This man is a mystery to the whole family. William Jr.'s birth certificate states William Edward Hammond for his father and death certificate stated father unknown.

The association between the Starr and Wernette families began in Canada and remained close for several generations. They were among the earliest land grant recipients in St. Clements, Waterloo, Ontario. Both families were German-speaking Catholics and fellow communicants of St. Clements Church. John Wernette (father of Anna Maria Catherine Wernette) was a witness to the marriage of Gregory Starr (father of Ferdinand Starr) at St. Clements Church on 6 January 1855.

John Wernette (1838-1923) emigrated from Canada to Kent County, Michigan. He arrived around 1866 and by the time of the 1880 Census he had settled in Gaines Township, Kent County. His future son-in-law Ferdinand Starr (1856-1943) emigrates to Kent County, Michigan around 1878 but he goes back and forth to Canada for a period after he was married in North Dorr, Kent County, Michigan, on 12 October 1880. My great-grandfather Alfred Edward Starr (1882-1968) was the first child of this marriage and the last one in my Starr line born in Canada.

There were also family businesses. John Wernette had been an innkeeper in St. Clements. His son John Alexander Wernette (1862-1942) and Ferdinand Starr are listed in the 1889 Grand Rapids, Michigan street directory as proprietors of "Kalamazoo House" at 73 S. Division Street.

A number of the Starr and Wernette family members including Ferdinand Starr, his wife Anna Maria Catherine Starr (nee Wernette) moved to Los Angeles, California, starting in 1912 with their son Earl Joseph Starr. Many of them are buried together in Calvary Cemetery, East Los Angeles.

Most States are highly protective of the rights of those voluntarily and involuntarily admitted into mental hospitals. Most of these States protect this information even after death. The verbiage of the statutes in Idaho indicate these laws extend to after death, simply because they do not by law limit them. Only until recently were records made available to identify those patients who were buried in State Hospital Cemeteries in Washington State.

This is the primary Idaho statute concerning mental health patent records:

Basically says: If the person or his attorney consent; or if necessary to carry out ...(laws)... or if the court directs disclosure is necessary...

A death certificate if issued by the State Asylum, or if it identifies a mental disability, it is NOT releasable. UNLESS, you obtain a court order for release. Mere curiosity has been shown to not be a valid reason for release of confidential information, even if it concerned a family member. If you could prove a need to have the medical information to protect yourself or family, the court "might" take interest. If they did, they would review your petition, then review any and all documents subject to release to verify a legitimate need for release. But, in this case, I don't believe any medical history would be released. The court "might" release information as to the place of burial. However, the court might determine there is no necessary need to identify such information outside of the fact the person was buried on hospital grounds.

IF she was NOT a patient, you can order a NON-Certified copy of her death certificate for $14.00. There are other restrictions for a CERTIFIED copy:

You could apply for a death certificate, But, if it is falls under the Idaho Statute for protection, ALL you can be told is there is no record. Legally, they can not tell you the person was or was not a patent, or the DC is protected.

I base my comments above on my experience with Washington State and California attempts (CA for a friend) to obtain records. At one point, I was sent an impressive stack of papers to apply for court order for disclosure for Washington State from the Attorney Generals office. These mental health records are much like adoption records. They not only protect the person from disclosure; but also the family. I doubt you would want someone to have access to mental health records of your family just to embarrass you.
