Myrtle McGuire (1916-2013) Obituary

The Idaho Statesman, 05/05/13

Myrtle McGuire, 97, born in Bear Lake, Idaho to Jonathan James and Ada Lillian Pugmire, passed away peacefully May 2, 2013 in Boise with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Besides being the matriarch of her family, Myrtle also had a loving church and neighborhood family. Myrtle was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During her lifetime, she served in many callings in the church. Visiting teaching until the time her health made it difficult to go to visit others, she then continued her service by overseeing the other members in the ward. For years she was the compassionate service leader under several Relief Society presidents. This position provided her the opportunity to organize many meals for funerals, births, and illnesses for others in their time of need. She was always there with a hot meal and a compassionate hug for those that were suffering. Myrtle also served at the Boise Idaho Temple for many years until her health impeded her ability to continue in this service.
Myrtle had an infectious laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and she was always up to date on current events and sports. Her family says that she is the best pie-maker and raspberry jam maker in the world. She loved her daughter with all of her heart, but she had a capacity to love who ever needed her. One of her favorite topics was her grandchildren and their many activities and traditions together. She reveled in modern technology and always looked for an opportunity to see her grandchildren through Skype. Myrtle was a wonderful listener and a great encourager. We have all been so blessed for knowing her, and we are so grateful to have been part of her life.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her two husbands, Earnest Carl Lee, who was killed while serving in World War II, and Johnathan Harold McGuire, who passed away in 1974. Myrtle was one of 11 children. She is preceded in death by her brothers, James, Reed, Jarvis, and Kay Pugmire; and her sisters, Leola Taylor, Marge Walk, and Verna Saner.
Myrtle is survived by siblings, Donna Vallier, Jack Pugmire, and Karma Dungan; daughter, Diane Delgadillo; granddaughter, Marci (Daniel) Burgett; grandsons, Fred and Matt Delgadillo; and great grandchildren, Jordan and Garrett Delgadillo, Anna Delgadillo, and Lindsay, Ally, and Hannah Burgett.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Relyea Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10th at the Morris Hill Cemetery.
logo

Published in Idaho Statesman on May 5, 2013
Dirk Ian Kunz (1981-2013) Obituary
Dirk Kunz
8
Print Email
Kunz

(1) Comments

BUHL • We are sad to announce the passing of Dirk Kunz this past weekend. Dirk Ian Kunz was killed in a horse riding accident Saturday, April 27, 2013, doing what he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Angela; four children, K.D., Clayton, Cole and Russell of Buhl; parents, Ian and Verla Kunz of Gooding; brothers, Sean Kunz of Twin Falls and Eric Kunz of Provo, Utah; and a sister, Alicia (Dex) Tiggs of Gooding.

Dirk was born Aug. 5, 1981, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Ian and Verla Kunz. Before he was 3 years old, he was introduced to horses while the family lived and worked on a horse ranch. From then on, horses and the ranching way of life were always in the back of his mind. While growing up in Gooding, Idaho, Dirk spent most of his time caring for and raising animals of one sort or another. Always industrious, Dirk let his love for animals drive him to learn what he needed to do to care for each type of critter and was even able to earn income from his endeavors.

After returning from an LDS Mission to Macon, Ga., Dirk pursued equine studies at the College of Southern Idaho where he met his bride, Angela Barnes. They married March 21, 2003, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Dirk worked a multitude of jobs to support his family while still pursuing a dream of owning a ranch and horse training business.

Ever busy, he served diligently in his ward and was presently serving as membership clerk, obtained a degree in accounting and worked at Cooper Norman during tax season. He was also serving in the National Guard as an officer candidate.

In the last 10 years, they were blessed with four intelligent and adorable children. As each has grown, they have learned from Dirk’s work ethic and have been a source of help and support to their mother. A hard worker and good friend, Dirk spent almost as much time helping out other people as he did with his own responsibilities. As a result, there are few people in the valley that don’t know Dirk as a very good friend. His impact on the community is significant and his leaving is far too soon.

A memorial fund has been established at Zion’s Bank, 502 Main St., Gooding, ID 83330, and donations may be made to any Zion’s branch or given to the staff of Farmer Funeral Chapel. Make checks payable to the Dirk Kunz Memorial Fund.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 Ninth Ave. N. in Buhl. A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Buhl LDS First Ward Chapel, 501 Main St. Interment will follow the service with military honors at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.

Elaine “Tudi” Jensen Bolton (1930-2013) Obituary

News Examiner, Thursday, March 28, 2013

Elaine “Tudi” Jensen Bolton was born on July 8, 1930 in Ovid, Idaho to Alf and Ivy Jensen. She passed away after a long and happy life on March 28, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Elaine lived her entire life in or near Paris in Bear Lake Valley in southeastern Idaho. At age 18, Elaine met who was to become the love of her life, Gordon Wyler Bolton while they both worked at the Creamery just north of Paris. Many shenanigans later and then finally after adding a dead frog to Gordon’s sandwich one day at lunch, they quickly fell in love, courted for a time, and then got married in the Logan LDS Temple.

After marrying, Elaine and Gordon built and lived in a small house in Paris and provided a love-filled home for their three children; Larry, Starlene and Kent. Elaine loved being a mom and excelled at it due to the wonderful example of her own mother. Over the years, Elaine worked as a bookkeeper for the Paris Creamery, secretary at the County Extension Office and then deputy clerk for the Bear Lake County Court for 25 years before retiring. Also, as an active member of the LDS Church, she served in a variety of positions during her life and loved to be of service to all.

Due to Elaine’s beautiful personality, no one who ever met her left without feeling that they were her favorite. Her sweet disposition and simple underlying tenet that “life is beautiful” helped to ensure that no matter where she was, the world was a better place simply by her being there. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her three children; Larry Bolton of Montpelier, Starlene Bolton-Wegner also of Montpelier and Kent (Angie) Bolton of Syracuse, Utah; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren with two on the way and three great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Waiting to greet her when she passed on were her husband, Gordon Bolton; their babies Susan, Brent, Zan and Julee; parents, Alf and Ivy Jensen and brother, Don Jensen.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at the Paris, Idaho LDS Stake Center.
Frankie Lee Spears (1923-2013) Obituary

News-Examiner,Thursday, March 28, 2013

Frankie Lee Spears passed away peacefully Tuesday night, March 19th at the hospital in Viroqua, WI. Her daughter, Brenda, and son-in-law, Jack, were at her bedside as she gracefully crossed over from this world into the next. She had several hard weeks prior to her passing when she experienced great pain and discomfort. Her doctor and so many people at Sannes Nursing Home and Vernon Memorial Hospital worked diligently to comfort and ease Frankie’s passage. So many friends offered their love, prayers and healing energy, with Vernon Memorial Hospice forming a foundational support. We are so grateful for the support and expertise from so many loving and caring people.

We are planning a Celebration of Life Memorial sometime in late spring or early summer with the date to be announced. If you so desire, making a donation to a cause of your choice in her honor would be a lovely gesture. We thank you for being a part of her life.

Frankie was born in Montpelier, Idaho October 21, 1923 to a fourth generation baker. Her given name was Frankie as she was supposed to be a boy. She complied the best she could by being a rambunctious tomboy as a child. She grew up helping in the bakery, the Royal Bakery, with her parents, Vera and Frank, and her two sisters, Edythe and Norma Ruth. Just out of high school, she had to chose between love and her dream of a career in cartooning with Walt Disney. She decided on marriage and family and married a local man, Donell Pendrey, and had a son, Michael Don. Donell joined the navy, but sadly died in WWII aboard a ship somewhere in the Pacific. A few years later, Frankie married Glenn Spears, who was known as “Pinkie”. Frankie and Pinkie settled in Kemmerer, Wyoming and two years later gave birth to Brenda. My brother and I could not have asked for more loving and supportive parents.

Frankie was a self-taught artist learning to paint with oils on canvas, producing amazing works. She loved crafts, made pottery, sewed dresses for Brenda’s dolls, took hand-me-downs from her friend’s teenage girls and created a beautiful wardrobe for Brenda. Holidays became her opportunity to create. She loved painting the most intricate scenes on Easter eggs. They were more works of art than eggs to crack. Christmas wrapping was eloquently done. Frankie worked in the local grocery store. IGA, in Kemmerer always with the longest line of the three check-out stands as people were more than willing to wait in order to visit with her. She loved people and became friends with nearly everyone in town. She was everybody’s shoulder to cry on, offering love and comfort. She used to share that people would drop by to talk, them talking – her listening mostly, and they would leave very relieved and thankful for all her help. She always smiled at that as she felt she hadn’t done that much to assist. She just had a way of making people smile. Her husband, Pinkie, powered large equipment in a strip coal mine just outside of town. In retirement, he passed away in 1990 naturally leaving a large void in her life.

Back in 1967 in the space of six months, Frankie lost both her parents to cancer and diabetic complications and then her younger sister, Norma Ruth, to a brain aneurysm. Frankie was a very special aunt to Norma’s son, Gregory. Gregory’s father, Freddy, continued running the bakery. Frankie’s older sister, Edythe, raised cattle and farmed just outside of Montpelier, ID in a tiny farming community called Pegram. Frankie and Pinkie looked forward every year to calving season as they loved helping out and being out in the fresh country air with the sounds of roosters to wake them in the morning. Frankie’s whole family and all her close friends loved to camp out and they spent weekends and vacations laughing and loving the great outdoors.

About five months after her sister Edythe passed in 2005, Frankie decided that it was time to move closer to Jack and Brenda even though that meant bravely moving from the area she had lived her entire life. The night before they were set to leave for Wisconsin, the devastating news of her son’s sudden passing came, so instead of traveling east to Wisconsin, it was a trip west to Fresno, California for services for Michael. As you can imagine, there was deep grief and it took quite a toll on her and Brenda & Jack.

Frankie, being a strong and independent spirit, wanted her own place in Viroqua, WI. She lived a short time on her own, then her health called for more continuous care which Brenda & Jack were happy and blessed to provide for 6 years at their home in La Farge, WI where they enjoyed many good times and created fond and loving memories which bring great comfort now. Then in December, 2012 pace maker surgery required after-care and rehabilitation that Sannes Nursing Facility in Soldiers Grove, WI provided. She never regained enough strength to return home and remained at Sannes until a week before her passing in the hospital. The people at Sannes became like family to her and we are comforted to know she was so loved and nurtured by them. The hospital and hospice staff also offered great care and compassion to her and to us as we sat vigil during her transition period.

It touches us deeply that our family and friends hold us all in such a loving embrace. We are forever grateful to everyone.

The Seland Huston Funeral Home of LaFarge is assisting the family with their arrangements.Online condolences can be made at prattfuneralservice.com
Frankie Spears RGB

This entry was posted on Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Idaho State Journal, 03/28/13

Travis John Kunz was born on November 17, 1977 in Pocatello, Idaho to Judy Mary Wells and Roger Lee Kunz. He passed away quietly and unexpectedly on March 26, 2013 in his home from complications from a surgical procedure. He lived his entire life in Pocatello except for a two year mission he served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Indianapolis, Indiana Mission (March 1997-1999). He excelled playing baseball at Highland where he earned All-State Honors and led the team in hitting his senior year. Travis played linebacker for the 1995 undefeated state champion football team and also played American Legion Baseball during high school.

Those who played with and against Travis describe him as the ultimate teammate and competitor on and off the field – always showing respect for his coaches, teammates, competition and the boys and girls he would later coach. Travis was never critical of others but he expected you to work. He lived to serve, help and lift others throughout his entire life. Travis was an Eagle Scout.

He graduated in 2006 from Idaho State University with a Finance degree in Business Administration. To this eternal union were born their team - Abbie Suzanne (9), Kannon Travis (7), Laynie Bo (2), and Madden Lee (8 months).

More than anything, Travis loved spending time with his children and sweetheart. His family was the love of his life. He adored his sweet wife, her family and her cooking. Travis loved Shelby’s parents Steve and Suzanne Barlow as well as her two brothers Shaun (Emily), their children and Scotty (Amy). He spent his free time teaching, preparing and coaching his children in both life and in their soccer, baseball, softball and football events. He loved the outdoors and open spaces and always looked forward to hunting with his father and cousins. Travis also loved to play golf.

He was an Assistant Football Coach at Century High School for the past six years helping coach the defense. Travis was ‘old school’ and he delighted in seeing athletes excel in any sport through grit and determination. He knew that hard work, effort and dedication determine our success and that was how he lived.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as an Elders Quorum President, teacher, Ward Executive Secretary, home teacher and Ward Finance Clerk at the time of his death. Travis loved the gospel and had a testimony of eternal families. He loved his Heavenly Father and truly enjoyed serving others.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shelby and their four young children: Abbie, Kannon, Laynie Bo, and Madden; parents, Roger and Judy; sisters, Tamera Dawn (Greg) Harding and Tawna Lyn (Troy) Eborn; brother, R.
