1918 ~ 2017
Lamont Junior Pugmire was born on April 9, 1918 in St. Charles, Idaho to Vivian Lamont and Myrtle Arnell Pugmire. He passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2017 in Orem, Utah, just months shy of his 100th birthday.
Jr lived a life most of us have only ever read about or watched in (black and white) movies. He grew up working on a cattle ranch, graduated from Fielding Academy, and made one of the best decisions of his life when he convinced Ada Rex to marry him. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 27th, 1939.
Five kids and a million adventures followed, including raising hundreds of turkeys on the east side of Bear Lake, working for the railroad, a long career with Utah Power & Light and IBEW, total devotion to the Bear Lake Rangers, service as mayor of St. Charles, Logan Temple ordinance worker, and twice honored as Grand Marshall in the Paris 4th of July parade. Jr was never very far from his bride, his dog, nor his horse. He always had a story to tell, and loved nothing more than a rapt audience.
He will be missed by his five children, Tamara (Bernson), Chad, Jane (Hillier), Sonja (Bassett), and Rex, twenty-two grandchildren, ninety-one great grandchildren, twenty-one (with five on the way) great great grandchildren, and countless others who adopted him as their own. As we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is once again with his sweetheart after waiting more than ten years. Happy trails, indeed, to our cowboy, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend.
Funeral services are Saturday morning, December 9th at 11 at the St. Charles Ward building. Jr's family will meet with friends Friday evening, December 8th from 6-8 in the same building and again two hours before the services.
