MONTPELIER — Michael O’Neal Kunz, 54, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, of natural causes in his sleep at home.
He was born June 10, 1954, to Olive May Hunter and Wayne O’Neal Kunz in Montpelier, Idaho.
Mike is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons, Jacques of Las Vegas, Nev., Joshua and Kim of Rexburg, Idaho; two daughters, Trista Stransky of Murray, Utah, and Tiffanie and her son, Jared, of Montpelier; his mother, Olive Kunz of Montpelier; father, Wayne Kunz, of West Haven, Utah; two brothers, Danny (Sue) and Bret (Marti), both of Montpelier; four sisters, Luann (Ken) Transtrum of Pinedale, Wyo., Karla (Steve) Stumpp of West Haven, Utah, Sharon Dimick of Montpelier, and Julie (Boyd) Pugmire of Franklin, Idaho; numerous aunts and uncles and two great-aunts, Ila George of Pocatello and Sarah Walton of Idaho Falls.
Mike graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1972 and received his mechanic’s degree at Idaho State University in Pocatello. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denver, Colo. On Nov. 9, 1978, he married Judy Alger in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was an insurance salesman and owned and operated Insurance Designers. He was active in the church and was serving as a teacher, a high councilor and loved his calling as the Ward Mission Leader.
Some of his hobbies were acquiring knowledge and then sharing that knowledge with others. He enjoyed motorcycling with his children and nephews. He loved to travel, cook and especially spend time with his family. He was the strength of his family, mother and siblings. He will be greatly missed by his family. He left to serve a mission for Heavenly Father. Because he died on the Fourth of July, it was convenient that the City of Montpelier celebrated his passing with a fabulous fireworks display. Mike would have loved it.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. in the Montpelier 4th and 1st Wards Chapel at 485 S. Seventh St. with Bishop Craig Thomas officiating.
Mike’s family will welcome friends at a visitation at Matthews Mortuary on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family online at www. KunzRus.com.
