MONTPELIER — Arnold Joseph Oehrlein, 88, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born March 28, 1920 at St. Anthony, Minnesota, to William and Clara Vos Oehrlein. He was the fourth child of 13. In 1940, he moved to Detroit to work during the war for Revere Copper and Bronze Company.
While there he met and married Eileen. They were married for 57 years. In 1946 they moved to Bear Lake, where he started his own auto body repair shop in Montpelier. They loved the area, the mountains and the lake and stayed. He then worked for Rich Motor Co. for 18 years. Later, he decided he wanted his own business so he started “Arnold’s Radiator Shop.” Business was a success until 1981, when he suffered a massive heart attack.
He never gave up and continued on to do many things for his church and the community and for charities. He was a devout Catholic. He loved his family, church and community. He worked hard all his life. He was president of the Montpelier Lions Club, where he met and traveled with many friends.
He did whatever he could to help anyone. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He was friend to everyone.
He married Eileen Morford in 1941, and they had two daughters. Eileen died in 1997. He later met and married Audrey Brodrick in 1999.
Arnold is survived by his wife Audrey; two daughters, Sandra (John) Walter and Nancy (Steve) Hays; four grandchildren, John Vose, James and Michael Walton, Tiffany McPherson; two step-grandchildren, Eric and Camille Hays; 13 greatgrandchildren; and one greatgreat-grandchild; two sisters and three brothers.
