My grandfather's father was Joseph Vincent. My grandfather was also in the United States Army and moved to the states to marry my grandmother Eula Mae Strickland Vincent. My grandfather was killed in an automobile accident in 1969 and was buried in Durham, NC. Any information on my family would be sooooo appreciated.

Thanks,

Stacey

Hello my name is Moana Kuanoni Mershon. I am the second youngest daughter of Robert Earl Mershon. Your fathers brother. I met your father back in 1986 when my grandmother passed. Your father visited us on the Big Island of Hawaii when she passed. I have almost little to none info on the Mershon side. I do know that I have one half brother on Maui and several more in Ohio and a sister as well. Any other information on your side would be greatly appreciated!! I'm interested in learning more about my father's side family. Correct me if I'm wrong but did your g'father ever mention their older brother Ralph? (I think that was his name?) My father was born March 14, 1930 and Died January 25, 2001. If you are interested in sharing information please email me at moca1975@gmail.com

Thank you.

Aloha,

My name is Moana Kuanoni. I notice that you are looking for information on the Davis family. Unfortunately I don't have any info on the Davis family, but I do have very little info on the Mershon family.

Emma (Brown) Mershon is my grandmother.
You can go to the LDS' Family History Center to see microfilms of copies of baptisms, but you'll have to know where your family was from. Assuming you are referring to tracing grandparents, etc. on back.

I guess you already tried this site, where they have an index of arrivals into Hawaii, but not everyone.

http://archives1.dags.hawaii.gov/gsdl/cgi-bin/library?a=p&am...

Now you've also been shown the list of ships:
http://www.hawaiian-roots.com/PIships.htm

Between 1890 - 1900 as far as German ships go, there was only 1. In 1895, the ship S.S. Braunfels sailed for 65 days arriving in Hawaii on Apr 4, 1895 leaving Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores.

So now what you can do is look for them prior to that date of arrival. It said that they sailed for 65 days, so 2 months prior. Start looking for their passport info. prior to Feb. 1895.

http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/passaportes/Default...

If it doesn't work, try hours later, or the next day. Sometimes the site goes down.

Hi there,

I hope you still read these posts. So, I mentioned to another person on this thread that I had dug up some info about Benito Vera Cruz. I'll post the same thing here as it may be helpful to you:

I did manage to find some info on Benito Vera Cruz. He is my great, great grandfather. I was able to see that same Census document you're talking about! It shows their parents as Louis Vera Cruz from Guam who was born in May, 1848 and Haili Vera Cruz (doesn't show her maiden name) born in Hawai'i (doesn't say where) in June 1866. His (Louis') race is listed as 'Caucasian' and hers as 'Hawaiian'.

Benito had several siblings. Moekahi (the "M" name) who you mentioned was the youngest. The oldest was Caroline Vera Cruz (born August 1881), then Louis Vera Cruz (born February 1883), then Benito (born August 1884), and lastly Moekahi Vera Cruz (born November 1887).

I tried to find more info on their parents, but haven't seemed to dig up anything just yet. I would love to know where Louis (the dad) was born on Guam, and was he really Caucasian, or did they not have enough Census race categories back then? And where was Haili from in Hawai'i?

By the way, I saw another spelling of her name as 'Haile', but on the Census in handwriting it says 'Haili'. Just in case you see that discrepancy too.

Hope that helps! Let's stay in touch - let me know if you find anything else on them! aloha! Ku'ulani

Moekahi who you mentioned was the youngest.

Let's stay in touch - let me know if you find anything else on them! aloha! Ku'ulani

I just received this message today. Glad to hear from you. My connection is with William Mitchell Cruz and his first marriage to Mabel Kapewa. I am the oldest daughter of William's first son, William Perry Cruz. I also have birth and death info on my dad's brother Emil Cruz, birth dates only for my dad's other siblings Luibeck Cruz and Winona Leilani Cruz and nothing on their spouses or children. I was told Winona died in the 1980's, but have never found anything except a birth date. I have birth and death info on Daisy Kalani Cruz, William Mitchell Cruz, Jr., Edwin Kaimalia Cruz, and Lisa Nalani Cruz. I also found someone on Facebook related to your line I believe related to the brother of Benito Vera Cruz. Please send me a message on Facebook or to nplcat1@hotmail.com.

Hi! I am so glad I came across your post. Thelma Adolph is my grandmother, and Daisy Vera Cruz was her mother. I see my grandmother nearly every day! Uncle Benji (Benjamin) is also still alive, and he volunteers full-time at the Hawaii Theater in downtown Honolulu. Uncle Johnny died a while ago, before I was born I believe (28+ years). I just recently saw Aunty Lovina at Walmart and she looked well. What other family info do you have? Malama pono!

My great grandmother on my father's side was Silvana Clara da Silva who came from Machico, Madiera, Portugal, to Lahaina, Hawaii aboard the City of Paris June 14, 1884. Her parents were Joachim da Silva and Joaquina Clara (da Silva). She married Antone Rodrigues Pimenta in Santo Antonio, Madeira, Portugal in 1874. My family tree (Robert Bortfeld Family Tree) is available on Ancestry.com. Please see if this is the same family. If so, I would love photos, stories, relationships, etc. to add to my records.

Lono's mother, Mary Theresa Moss-Nakapaahu, an enrolled Northern Arapaho tribal member, was my sister. She never went by the name "Beatrice". Lisa resides in Michigan - not Minnesota as was posted by pacificsavagez. Luke lives in NY and no one knows where Lucy is. Her mom's side of the family have done some searches but always came up at a dead-end. If any of you have any information on her where abouts, her children in Hawaii or any thing about her, it would be most helpful to her mom's family to know about her. Thank you.

I am interested in connecting with family members that can trace their heritage back through Pedro Eustachio & Maria Anita [Vargas] Pereira.

Pedro & Maria Anita immigrated to the Hawaiian Islands from British Honduras between 1911 and 1912 with their six children: Lucita Gregoria, Florita Vargas, Joaquim Santos, Nina, Victor Manuel & Eliseo Fontes.

Pedro, born about 1865, was a native of Santa Izabel, Boa Vista, Cape Verde and passed away in Los Angeles, Ca in 1946. Maria Anita, born about 1874, a native of Belize, British Honduras passed away in Maui, Hawaii in 1930.

I have successfully connected Pedro in Hawaii with his older brother, Manuel Joaquim Pereira of Kauai. There may be other siblings using the Pereira or Perry name.

Immediate family surnames include:
Pereira
Vargas
Fontes
Herrera
Cabral
Perry

If you are family member, or know someone that is, and are interested in re-connecting our tree please contact me.

~ Deanna

John William Evans - Pennsylvania and Hawaii

According to military records, John William Evans was born on February 16, 1880 in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA. The year of his birth varies according to various documents produced during his life, i.e. children's birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, military records, etc.
According to John's marriage certificate, his parents were William C or J Evans and Catherine Llewelyn or Llelyen. According to various census records and stories passed down to his children, his parents were of Welsh-Irish ancestry and both were born in Wales.
Supposedly, John had a least two sisters, they were named Charlotte and Catherine, names he used for his own children.
I can trace John after he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1903. I cannot find any proof of John or his family before April 1903.
I need HELP in locating birth records, census records, family members, etc.
After spending time in the military in California and the Philippines, John left the Army in Hawaii in 1912. He eventually married Philomena Silva or Silva Torres on the Island of Maui, and they had thirteen (13) children. John died in 1947.
Please HELP me find information on my grandfather.

I'm sorry again, I don't have those documents on the settlement, because I was about eighteen years of age when that happened, I'n now turning fifty four this July. It was a very long time then, But I remembered seeing Helen Campbell's' name in the documents.

(Holau) I assume was Annie's Maiden name. I believe she was born on Maui or her family was from there. I am trying to find out when she was born, and when she died, and where she is buried.

Do you think it is possible to find out the name of the Campbell in the settlement? I have seen other family genealogy assuming Annie Kahilo Aiona is your Annie. I really would like to know when she married you Holau? Did Annie end up moving to Maui? Do you have any idea where is is buried?
Patti

Sorry I don't, but I do know that we have a relation with the Campbell's, I remember having a settlement after my Great- Great grandmother Annie Holau's estate in stocks which was invested in her name. After the death of her last surviving child to be distributed to all the surviving heirs, if you were included in that settlement then you are with the right Annie, Hope this helps..

I am still trying to make the connection that Annie Aiona Holau is our Annie Kahilo Aiona. I have seen Annie Kahilo married to Ahina Aiona. I do believe that Annie Kahilo Aiona left the household sometime between 1903-1920?? Do you have any kind of marriage for Annie and Holau?
