Seeking info on `ohana Kuehu, Williams, Kekuia all of Wai`ohinu, Ka`u, BI

Aloha! I'm seeking any info on these `ohanas.
Kuehu- My ggm is Mary Ka`aiuhi (sp?) Kuehu. I was told she had 7 sisters and several brothers. She married my ggf, Jack Williams Kekuia, who is a twin and from a big `ohana. They had many children who was given the last name Williams. Kekuia was dropped when my ggf was born, i think. They were both born around 1875-1885. My gf, Louis Pa`a`aina Williams was 17 of 22 children but not all children are from Mary Ka`aiuhi Kuehu. She was a housewife and he was a mounted policeman. They later moved to O`ahu. Any `ike would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo!

I am a descendant of the Kuehu 'ohana from Wailuku. Please take a look at our 'ohana website on which you can find a partial listing of our Kuehu ancestors. You can find the list in the "Our Hawaiian Roots" section. Most of the 'ohana seems to have moved to other islands over the years and lost touch and we are trying to find out more about our Kuehu roots, as well. www.gasper-kealawaiole.net
The website has a lot of photos so please allow time for the page to load.

My maternal Grt-grt-grt Grandfather's name was KUEHU. He married Hookano KAILIANU. Their first recorded child was John Kaaihue KUEHU (aka: Kaaihue KUEHU) abt 1849. John eventually moved to the Big Island where 1910 US Census records show that he worked as a "cowboy" and "stockhandler" on the Kaulaula Ranch in Waiohinu. John married Kainoa Lahapa KANAKAKEAWE. They had a daughter whom they named, Hannah Puuheana Kaaihue KUEHU (born abt 1882). Hannah married David Kaaihue KAAPANA abt 1897 in Kaulaula, Hawaii. They had five (recorded) children - Rita, David, Rachel, Abbie and Alice. Abbie (born 11 Aug 1904) married William Lili MOKIAO 29 Jan 1922. Wlliam was born 11 Jun 1903, Ka'u Hawaii. My extended 'ohana research shows that William was born to Muk Yau Ahmoyu Atong CHUN (aka: MOKIAO) and Mary Piko'okalani "Piko" KEKUIA (born 23 Nov 1873). This may explain the Kuehu and Kekuia connection. I am currently trying to find descendants of William and Abbie Kalei MOKIAO, so that I may share 'ohana genealogy info and fill the KUEHU-KAAPANA-MOKIAO branches. Please contact me at admin@gasper-kealawaiole.net OR tooocen@earthlink.net and I would be happy to share 'ohana research info. Additional info can be found on our 'ohana website at http://www.gasper-kealawaiol.net

Sources for my research were family history records - LDS / www.familysearch.org and ancestry.com.

Aloha

Kimo

My grandmother was born in Waiohinu in 1893 - her father taught at the Catholic Mission there. Her father was WILLIAM HART and her mother was Anna Florinda DeSilva. Records for the church there, Sacred Heart, are at Holy Rosary in Pahala. Likely one of your relatives may have known my grandmother or one of her 9 siblings - they had moved to Honolulu by 1910.

I tried to click on your website but the link doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps you typed it wrong in the message?

Aloha Kimo,

Do you have any info on Rebecca Kekuia? Information I had said she was 1 of 9 or 11 girls. Having a hard time with the last name Kekuia, do you think it's been cut from Kekuiapoiwa? Appreciate any kokua.

Mahalo,
Julie

Aloha
I just came across your info. regarding the parents of William Lili Mokiao. Just wanted to make a correction. I knew William Lili Mokiao personally. He's my grandmother's 1st cousin. We referred to him as uncle Lili. Here is the mistake, his mother was not Mary Kapikookalani Kekuia, his mother is Mary's sister. I don't know her name by memory. But they were the daughters of Keaka Kekuia and Waiholua Kekaua.

I know this because my mother was raised by her maternal grandmother who was Mary Kapikookalani "Piko" Kekuia in Waiohinu Ka'u. Mary's husband was the manager of Kahuku Ranch his name is Martin "Makini" Martinson a hapa haole with Hawaiian roots that goes back to Keoua (Cheif killed by Kamehameha's men @ Pu'ukohola) and Kalaniopuu, king of the big island..

Mary and Martin had 13 kids. My grandmother is Emma Kealiiholokahiki Martinson. Out of the 13 kids, only one is still living. Her name is Josephine "Phina" Tuiasosopo. She is very old and won't be around much longer according to her. She will know the name of her aunty who is Uncle Lili's mother. She too will admit that it can't be her own mother who everyone referred to as Piko.

Correction to my earlier entry, dated Nov. 2007. Aunty Phina recently passed away and we had her funeral service on May 17, 2007 and put her remains to rest next to her Parents at Waiohinu Ka'u on the family property.

Here is the correction to my earlier entry; I learned there are 2 Mary Kapikookalani Martinson. Both were sisters and referred to as Big Piko and little Piko. Big Piko is the Kupuna for the Mokiao ohana, uncle Lili folks. Little Piko is the Kupuna for the Martin Martinson ohana. Kalamai ia'u no ka hewahewa.
