This information was compiled by Ed and Margaret Anderson. We (and other researchers) are trying to locate a Lamar female, who was married to, or associated with, a Sansom man during the time period of 1890-1830 in Georgia. The name "Sansom" was often spelled Sansome, Sampson, Samson, Samsum, etc. It has also been transcribed incorrectly as "Lansom", because the S's often looked liked L's.
If anyone finds such a person, PLEASE contact me! I hope this data will help other Lamar researchers.

BACKGROUND
The Lamar family was briefly in Virginia before arriving in Maryland in the mid-1600s. They prospered there for a century before one branch of the family moved south. According to the traditions of the Stokes family, brothers John and Alexander Lamar settled in GA near Steels Creek, brothers Thomas and Robert in Edgefield SC and brother James in NC. LeMar’s 1941 History of the Lamar or Lemar Family in America lists another brother Samuel as settling in Beaufort District SC. However, there is a 1786 probate record in Richmond Co. GA for Samuel and James, Jr. married 1790 in Richmond Co. GA. Additionally, there is a Botetourt Co. VA branch of Lamar as compiled by Petracek, “The Lamar Legacy†(copy avail Dallas TX pub lib). Many Lamars remained in MD.
