George Walton Jr. (son of Dorothy and George) was appointed acting governor of West Florida by Pres. Monroe in 1821. He resided in Pensacola, the then seat of the territorial government. His mother Dorothy lived in Pensacola until her death . She is buried in the historic St. Michaels Cemetery in Pensacola. Her home had been at 211 East Romana St., It has been relocated in the downtown historic district. It is on the walking tour of old Pensacola.
After his mothers death, George Jr. moved to Mobile Alabama, where he became an attorney and mayor of that city.

Hello. There are a lot of lineal descendants, but no direct descendants of George WALTON, signer.
"George and Dorothy Camber WALTON had two sons:
1. Thomas Camber WALTON, born c 1782. He was an attorney in Augusta and died, unmarried, at "Meadow Garden" on December 13, 1803.
2. George WALTON, Jr. (c 1789-1863).
George, Jr. WALTON was born 15 Aug 1786 in Augusta, Ga. He died 20 Mar 1859 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie, VA and was buried in Blenford Cemetery. George married Sally Minge WALKER;
George and Sally Walker WALTON had two children:
1. Octavia Celeste Valentine WALTON (1811-1877). (more further)
2. Robert Watkins WALTON (b 1812 in Augusta; d. Mar 22, 1849, in Mobile, AL and buried in Magnolia Cemetery-Mobile, AL). He was admitted to the bar, helped organize the Mobile Rifle Co. in 1836 for the Creek Wars, and was a major in that unit when he died, unmarried. (age 37)

That leaves: OCTAVIA Celeste Valentine WALTON (George, Jr. WALTON, GEORGE (Signer of the Declaration of Independence)) was born 11 Aug 1811 in "Bellevue", Augusta, Georgia. She died 13 Mar 1877 was buried in the Walker Family Cemetery, Augusta, Ga. Her husband, Dr. Henry S. LeVert, was born in King William County, Virginia, December 26, 1804, and died March 15, 1864, in Mobile, Alabama, having been in declining health for many years. He is buried there in Magnolia Cemetery. They had four (five counting a son who died at birth) children, only two of whom lived to adulthood, daughters. Only of those married.

1. Octavia "Didi" WALTON, born 1837 in Alabama; died 1889 in Augusta. Unmarried.

2. Claudia Anna Eugenia, born c 1837-'38; died May 8, 1849, age 11, of scarlet fever and buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.

3. Sally Walker WALTON, born c 1840-'41; died May 3, 1849, age 8, of scarlet fever and buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.

4. Son who died at birth.

5. "Cara Netta" (born Henrietta Caroline and named for and by Henry Clay), born December 6, 1846.

The daughter that married was: Henrietta Caroline "Cara Nettie" Levert b: DEC 06 1846 d: DEC 15 1876
who married: Lawrence Augustus Regail Reab b: DEC 16 1844 d: JUL 03 1909 - only one child lived to adulthood:
Regail Reab b: AUG 31 1870 d: MAY 07 1871
Infant Reab (died)
George WALTON Reab b: JUN 17 1873 d: MAR 06 1925

With the death of George WALTON REAB, just a year before the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the direct line of descent from George WALTON, signer, ended.

I have been researching the Walton's of Augusta....there are quite a lot of us lineal descendants, through the brothers and sisters of his father. Hope this helps. G. Mylius, Bham, AL

you have some very interesting information. it is rumored in our family we are some how related to george walton although i have yet to find that. i was told that our grandfather's family origined from alabama/ georgia prior to their move into arkansas then into oklahoma. however, i do not have his parents name or any living relatives that could probably give me that information. my grandfather is clyde edward walton sr. born in 1905 in griffin, arkansas which now that community does not exist (i'm told). he married ethel elizabeth elder the daughter of john henry elder of southwestern arkansas. i was also told most of the family records were destoryed during the civil war. i am hoping to find more information on his family so that i can trace it back to england. just curious if you know anything.

Christine. It is a shame you have no one to tell you who your grandfather's parents were. But with some digging, I am sure you can find them. If you could only go back a little further, perhaps I could help you to determine if there is a relationship to the Walton's of Georgia.

While I am sure it is true that some records were lost because of the War, the Walton's of Augusta, GA left clues and lots of legal information, and primarily descendants who are willing to share~! Certainly Walton descendants left the Georgia area and moved into Alabama and Mississippi. I have information on some of these.....direct descendants of the brothers or sister of George Walton, signer of the Declaration. George Walton's sister was Sarah/Sally Walton who married Thomas Watkins. His brothers were John - who married Elizabeth/Betsey Claiborne; and Robert - who married Frances Carter.

I am always willing to share information if it would help tie up a relationship. I don't have anything on a Clyde Edward, unfortunately. Let me know as you find out more. Or contact me direct if you want to discuss it further. Thanks~! gmylius@charter.net

Theresa, I believe I can tell you about these Walton families. Robert Walton (II) and Mary HUGHES of Virginia had 4 children. Roibert Walton (II) was the son of Robert Walton and Frances SHERWOOD. Mary was the daughter of Robert HUGHES and Martha MORTON.

Robert Walton (II) wrote his will in Cumberland County in 1749 and he was deceased by June 25, 1750. Settlement of his vast estate was still being processed in 1756. Witnesses to his will were Anthony HUGHES, Samuel Cocker, and Eliza HUGHES. His codicil, dated Sept. 5, 1749, was witnessed by his brother SHERWOOD Walton. We have a copy of his will.

Mary HUGHES Walton did not survive her husband by many years. By the time son, George - the youngest - was 7 years old, their son was an orphan under the guardianship of his father's brother - also named (uncle) George Walton - who had recently married Martha HUGHES, the sister of Mary HUGHES Walton. Mary HUGHES Walton, widow of Robert Walton, married after her first husband's death to John WINFREY, on April 27, 1752. He was the manager or overseer of Robert Walton's plantation. She died within a year or so of that marriage.

Mary HUGHES and Robert Walton (II) had the following children:

1. John, (b. 1743) who married Elizabeth "Betsey" CLAIBORNE, and had 4 children.
2. Robert (III) (b. abt 1744) who married Frances CARTER
3. Sarah/Sally (b. 1746) who married 1st. Thomas WATKINS and had 7 children; married 2nd. Rev. Joshua MORRIS and had 4 children.
4. George (Signer of the Declaration of Independence) who married Dorothy CAMBER and had 2 children.

John, Robert and George all eventually moved to the Augusta, GA area. Sally remarried the Rev. Morris in Virginia, and then they went to Kentucky - taking the two youngest children of her marriage to Thomas WATKINS with them. Sally Walton and Thomas WATKINS older children, sons, also went to Augusta, GA, - our connection.

We have information such as wills, etc., that I will be more than happy to share.... Thanks, Ginga (Bham, AL)

I, too, have been linked with George Walton. My grandfather was Henry A. Walton of Lumpkin Georgia. We have a family Bible with records dating back to Eatonton, GA. My Grandfather had several brothers who migrated to Alabama. If the times are correct, there might be a link there between our families. My Grandfather was born in the 1880's, I believe. His father was Simeon Overton Walton. Let me know if there is a possibility of a link here.

This is interesting. I am interested in the John, Robert, and George, who moved to Augusta, GA. My ancestors were supposed to have come from that area. The oldest record we have is in Eatonton, GA, though. If there is a link between Augusta and Eatonton, I would like to have more information. Thank you.

PS. There is also a mention of ancestors coming from an area in SC near Augusta.
