Gwendolyn Elizabeth Crews Moore, 56, of Nahunta, died early Thursday morning (March 9, 2006) at her residence in Nahunta after a long illness. Born in Brantley County, she was the daughter of Sim and Irene Elizabeth Crews. "Cookie," as known by her friends and family had worked as a cashier for Jiffy Convenient Stores before her illness, and was a member of the Atkinson Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus "R.G." Grady Moore; two brothers, Sport and Everett Crews; and two sisters, Stella Ellis and Evelyn Tucker. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Luke Moore, of Bristol, three grandchildren, Joshua Ray Herrin, Haley Elizabeth Moore and Lucas Troy Moore; two step-sons and daughter-in-law, J.J. and Kathy Moore, and Tony Moore, all of Estill, S.C. two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bud Rowe, of Savannah and Pat and Greg Jones, of LaMoore, Calif.; 10-step-grandchildren, Amber and Emily Senn, Ashley and Austin Moore, Cheyenne and Lariat Moore, Kentia and James Ranies, Jack Henry Rowe and Charles Adam Jones; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Neal and Vivian Crews, of Hoboken, Dewitt and Sandy Crews, of Polk City, Fla., Eddie Crews of Nahunta, and Joe T. and Evelyn Crews of Hoboken; one sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Raymond of Nahunta; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be this evening at the Chambless-Frye Funeral Home starting at 6. A funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 at the Hoboken Baptist Church with the Rev. Claud Goble and the Rev. Tim Rowell officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Hoboken City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Herrin, Matt and Ryan Day, Richard Crews, Jason Mixon, Calvin Ellis and Adam Carter. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.chamblessfryefh.com
