Old Walton was on the NC/ GA line that borders TN as well.....It went back to Buncombe co. after 1811. Macon co NC, Transylvania co NC, Henderson and Jackson are in the general area too.....(this is from my notes, you might want to double check via Google)

Also helpful, pull up a Ga map showing counties and check the ones on the border....Rabun, Union...and TN counties along the line had 'fuzzy' borders as well.
One of my relatives in that area listed her birthplace: United States, I guess she wasn't sure which state she should call her birthplace...

After 1818, Walton county GA is a place in central GA.

Fran

Saw your old posting from 2000 and was wondering if the Transylvania County group is still active. I am trying to find some information on Benjamin Trammell who lived in Buncombe or Henderson Co. in 1820-1850. He shows up as Benjamin Frammil in the 1820 Census, as Benjamin Grammell in the 1830 Census, Benjamin Tramel in the 1840 Census and as Benj Trammell in the 1950 Census. I believe that Benjamin in my GGG Granddad. I think he had the following sons: Unknown son-b. 1810, Andrew Jackson Trammell b. 1815, Tyre Boone Trammell b. 1817, Mary Ann Trammell b. 1819, Jesse Trammell b. 1820, Washington Trammell b. 1820, Carson Trammell b. 1822 and possibly another daughter and son. His wife was Nancy ? I strongly believe that Benjamin was the son of Benjamin Trammell Born to Daniel Trammell and Elizabeth Farr Scott who had land over near the Wateree River near Union, South Carolina, however this is purely a guess. I know that Andrew Jackson, Tyre Boone, Mary who married Wade Hampton Nations, and Jesse who married Margaret Marie Nations all moved to Claiborne Parish LA around 1848. I am a decendent of Jesse and Margaret and know the rest of the family very well. Several of us have been trying for years to connect Jesse to someone in NC. We know he told family he was born in 1820 in Henderson County, NC. Most of this group ended up in Texas.

Any help would be appreciated. My tree is Trammell Master in ancestry.com I live in Colleyville, Tex by DFW airport. My email is jltrammell@live.com

Old Walton Co History and Census of 1803

I found an interesting history online. You can reach it by going to pastpathways.com.

One of the things it refers to is a census done in 1803 or 180r, I think by the state of North Carolina. Does anyone know of an internet link to this? Of have it in your library?

I am looking for a Thompson (or Tompson) family, also an Indian family (not really sure that they were Cherokee) Daniel Weaver.

Hope you enjoy the history link!
Sarah

Hi, I'm interested in the Browns in the various Old Walton Co. censuses, especially the partial census from 1801-1810/11. In the partial census of 1801/03-1810/11, I noticed 3 Browns that may be my ancestors, Robert Brown, Hugh Brown & George R. Brown. If anyone knows more on these 3 Browns in the partial 1803-1810 census, please reply to this post. The George R. Brown in the early 1803-1810 census also turns up in later Walton Co. censuses, but Robert & Hugh appear to be gone by 1830.

Marshall

I am also looking for Robert Brown's daughter, Francis Lucinda Brown, Pollard Brown and the entire Brown family, as well as the related Meeks family of Rev. Littleton Meeks Jr. , who married Francis Lucinda Brown. Can you provide any recent new information on these Browns. I am about to have a local genealogist do an old probate records search[of these Browns , Meeks & related families]of the Habersham Co., GA. Courthouse, would you like me to forward you the results of that research?

Thank you

Marshall A. Spencer

I have this family that I found in the 1850 Federal census for Gwinnett Co., GA. I am wondering if he isn't Frederick Moore that married Matilda Braswell 11 Nov 1830 in Walton Co., GA? (From Georgia Marriages, 1699-1944) They are found in the
1860 Federal Census, District 408, Yellow River P.O., Gwinnett Co., GA, Fam. #1216,
Fredric Moore b. ca 1810 (age 50) GA with wife Mahale b. ca 1808 in GA. (age 52) They are living near the Moores who are descended from Willis Moore b.1787 VA and his wife Elizabeth b.1784 VA.
Also they are living near Young, Jacob, John L., and James L. More. They are also next to (Fam. #1217) Mary More, b. ca 1780 and in her household is Catherine More b.1810 & Sarah More b.1830 all 3 b. SC..
Another family next door to Fredric Moore is this one all in the same household:
Lord (Loyd) Brooks 50 m Farmer 400/500 SC
Nancy (T) Brooks 42 f GA
Minerva Brooks 16 f all the rest are born in GA. John Brooks 12 m
Willis Brooks 10 m
Wash Brooks 8 m
Martha Brooks 4 f
Jasper Brooks 5 m
Elizabeth Brooks 2 f
S.or L.L. More 42 m
Catherine More 33 f
James More 17 m
Luiza More 17 f
Rachel More 8 f
Susan More 4 f
S.or L.L. More 2/12 f
Incidently, Willis Moore's eldest son was Isham Moore and he was born in NC in 1805. This family went to Franklin Co., Ark. Willis' children married into the Gwinnett County families of the Bennetts, Coffields & Langleys.
Please let me know if this is the right family so I can make the changes in my database.
Thanks, Laura

I know that your question was asked in 2001 and you may have the answer, but just in case you do not I will try to help what little I can. I do not know of an Andrew Moore, because my family name I am researching is BRASWELL. BUT I do have a Frederick Moore who marries Matilda (Mahlaie) Braswell in Walton 11-11-30. Frederick Moore AND my Braswell family line originated in South Carolina. IT appears that these families, along with others, traveled together to GA.
Good luck!

I enjoyed reading about the Walton War of 1804. My ancestors came from North Carolina & came to settle in Tennessee between 1800-1807; marrying in 1806 & 1807 in Roane Co., Tennessee. They were from Beaufort Co. & Barnswell Dist. They later fought in the War of 1812 in 1813. This war known as the Walton War lasted more than one year (1804), but into 1807 or so. I can imagine how feuds could come about simply from one state issuing land grants (or deeds) to one resident & the other state doing likewise. There would be two owners & at the time the didn't have the concept of duplexs. My son did a report on North Carolina & I saw this mentioned in North Carolina's history & wondered about it.
Do you know anything about this so called Walton War of 1804? I know that a George Walton died on Feb. 12, 1804 and he was a signer of the declaration of Independence. I learned that this war was between residents of Georgia & North Carolina, but what was it all about & what issues were involved? I'm interested because my ancestors came from North Carolina & settled in Tennessee between 1800-1806 or so & later fought in the War of 1812 in 1813. They lived in Beaufort County & Barnswell District. Do you know if these were residents of specific townships?
Do you know anything about what the Walton War of 1804 was about & why the residents of the States of Georgia & North Carolina were at war or was it just a feud & over what issues? Was George Walton connected to this? He died on Feb. 12, 1804. I'm interested in this because my ancestors came from North Carolina & settled in Tennessee around 1800-1806.
Interested in information on the Walton Plantation located in Glen Alpine, NC. The main house is still there. I understand our family began there from my great uncle. I am a Walton.

Hi, my name is Debby Cook and I am researching the Beasley family. We have census info that says my 5ggrandfather, John Beasley, was born in GA, SC, NC and I think the Walton War maybe the answer.

Does anyone have, or could you tell me where I could get, information on the Beasley's that lived in this area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Debby
