Question about deeds in Georgia

Martha Rollins won land in the 1821 Ga land lottery. The land was located in Henry co ga. Newton co ga was formed from Henry co Ga at the end of 1821. Martha Rollins sold the land to David Smith but I do not know what year but it was probably about 1830. I am trying to find a deed for when Martha Rollins sold the land to David Smith. My question is would the deed be in the Henry co ga deed book or the Newton co ga deed book? I ordered the deed book for Henry co Ga but the deed was not llisted. Would it be in the Henry co Ga deed book? Any help appreciated. Ross

My Blackfoot Grandmother...

I am trying to find information on my great great grandparents John M Quinn (b:abt 1840) and Sarah Jane Hyde.

Sarah Jane Hyde is a full blooded Blackfoot. I've been at this for a couple years now and have yet to find anything on her.

The only official document I've been able to find with her name on it is a death certificate of their son Fitzhugh Lee Quinn. Even with that document it only lists her birthplace. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

He had sisters, Lizzy and Katherine. Katherine may have took guardianship of Edward, with her possible husband Robert Grisham of Georgia. I may have to work from the beginning of the Baileys forward. Does anyone know who first Baileys in Georgia were?

Unfortunately, these counties are far on the other side of Atlanta and out of our research area (surrounding Chattanooga, TN). You might try contacting the historical societies in the area. The would be more likely to have old maps of the area.

Taliaferro County Historical Society
PO Box 32
Crawfordville, GA 30631
(706) 456-2776

or

Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation
308 E.
I have looked at modern maps and historic maps but I can not find where Sandy Run was. It was a small stream off Harden's Creek in 1800 in Wilkes co ga. That area of Wilkes co ga became Taliaferro co Al in 1825 when Taliaferro co Ga was formed. Thanks

I can't find anything but a census record on Thomas Lee Matthews. We believe he was born in Clarke County Athens GA in 1899 and buried in Macklenburg NC. Stories in the family lead us to believe he is adopted but Can't find any information on him before 1940, except that he was married to Flossie. Children were : Charles, frankie, leroy, russel, lila, garnet, connie, and jackie. Any information or lead would be wonderful.

However, this was not his first marriage...he had a son James b abt 1830, and daughters Jane and Sarah, evidently b after that date. I have been unable to determine tha first wife's name or a marriage date.

Since Susie and son Percy are living in the same house in the 1900 census with a Mims family, have you looked for a Stevens-Mims marriage or other connection?

Don't forget to look at listings with the alternate spelling of Stephens.

And don't overlook the possibility the "Wd" was sometimes used to designate divorced or abandoned women, in an era when divorce was rather scandalous. Or even that Stevens might be Susie's own name. I see she is listed as an "authoress" in the census. That would have been somewhat Bohemian in 1900.

Have you found a death record for Susie? I see that Princton died in California. If Susie died there as well, California death records quite often have the surname of both parents, even in the index.

Good luck!

She might have used her former married name of Ada Lou Walden. I have just acquired this information and had no idea of this marriage. I do not think the marriage lasted long and she never spoke of it. Anyone with any information on this please contact me. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone have a place of death for John Morgan? Is it possible that your John Morgan married again after Sarah's death? My GGGrandfather was John M Morgan who supposedly came from Georgia ? and married Nancy Beene in Itawamba County, MS in 1844. Nancy Beene was the daughter of Lemuel Beene of MS. John M and wife Nancy had three children. William Beene Morgan, Mary Morgan and my GGrandmother Martha Jane Morgan. On the 1850 Census Nancy Beene Morgan was listed as a widow. Nancy Morgan was about 30 when she married John. I haven't been able to trace the Morgans past John. John was listed as a successful planter and apparently owned a plantation in Claiborne Parish, La at the time of his death. The plantation may have been one of his father in laws properties however. Nancy's younger brother Obediah Beene came to help her run the place after John's death. Nancy remarried a man named Jones later.

Looking for info on my gg grandmother Susie A., married name Stevens. I don't know her maiden name. I know that she was born in Nov. 1867 in Georgia. She had one child named Princeton Richard Stevens born in Louisiana in 1898. I can't find any documents with her husbands first name, but I know that she was widowed when Princeton was still very young. She raised him by herself in Georgia. Census records show that both her parents were also born in Georgia. Any info or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hello..believe it or not. I can ask my great aunt , who is 103; her name is Anna Wilkins, her grandfather was Eli Showers. Her mind is sharp and she might know. I just talked to her and she does not. Her name is Anna
Epps Showers. She will be 104 on August 1st. God willing. She lives alone ( my choice) and is very smart. She's voted in the last election and is planning to do so again she says...

Blessings
Evelyn

I've just found out that my gggg-grandma was Kizziah Showers. She probably would have been born between 1800-1810 and died before 1870. There seems to be only one black Showers family in Jasper County in the 1800s, so I'm inclined to think we're connected somehow. I just don't know how.
Eli Showers was the son of Pascal Showers. Pascal is from the same generation as my Kizziah Showers.
Also, I am a Minter/Carter (my paternal ancestors are from Jasper Co.) and my great-grandma married a Freeman.

Thank you for your great work on this biography. May I add additional information on one the children. Her name was Mary Etta born 10/29/1866. Her daughter Mary Dan Parker Hays was my grandmother. Mary Dan's father died 3 weeks before she was born. Mary Etta had 3 children with her second husband James Guest. There are Reubin J. F. (1875-1963) known as Uncle Reubin, Davy Ida Jane (1881-1967) and Archibald William McKinley known as Uncle Mack (1898-1988.) Uncle Mack owned a cotton mill in Fort Payne that made socks. He kept hunting dogs in the back yard and also had a house dog. He had a collection of hand guns including Derringers, dueling pistols, etc which he let my cousins play with (unloaded) in his basement. He also had a coin collection which included a silver dollar issued during George Washington's presidency. Uncle Mack and his wife Aunt Beulah did not have children. Most of these people are buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne.

I am looking for birth relatives (chances are that the birth parents have passed) who may know about the twin girls and would consider meeting them. The twins were adopted together. I am Larry Hawkins and I am searching on behalf of the twins family.
