Researching the family of Joshua Thompson Holcomb, born 1867, GA, married to Mary Elizabeth Shoemaker and had these children: Annie Mae, born 1890, Gainesville, GA, Lelia Minervah, born 1893, Abbeville, SC, Mamie Lea, born 1895, Abbeville, SC, James Luther, born 1901, Buford, GA. Mary Elizabeth died after last child was born. Her gravesite is unknown. Joshua remarries Sarah Catherine Lee "Miss Cattie", their children: Gracie Viola, born 1903, Davie Allene, born 1909, Everette Thompson, born ?, Woodrow Columbus, born 1913. The Joshua Thompson and Sarah Catherine Lee Holcomb family moved to Griffin, Spalding Co., GA in 1920 to work for Mr. J. J. Powell's shoe shop as Joshua, Luther, and Everett were shoemakers. Joshua died 3 Feb 1931, and is buried at the Holcomb plot in Griffin City Cemetery. His obituary lists the following survivors: "wife, 3 sons, J.L. Holcomb of Athens, E. T. and W. C. Holcomb of Griffin, 5 daughters, Mrs. J. F. Carr of Athens, Mrs. J. B. Dudley of Athens, Mrs. R. B. Underwood, Mrs. W. W. Huff, and Mrs. J. D. Crowe, all of Griffin. 4 brothers, W. S. Holcomb of Covington, I. H. Holcomb of Richmond, VA, T. R. and J. B. Holcomb of Buford. 7 sisters, Mrs. Claude Hamilton of Buford, Mrs. W. N. Wilkinson of Houston, TX, Mrs. Paul Pelock, of Buford, Mrs. W. N. Lynch of Atlanta, Mrs. W. C. Allen of Buford, Mrs. Cleo Mobley of Atlanta, and Miss Lula Holcomb of Buford. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Griffin, Woodman of the World, I.O.O.W., Junior Order of American Mechanics. He served as counsellor for the Jr. Order and had served through the chairs of the Red men, being oldest member of this organization in Griffin."
