Obituary of Maybel Aldredge Harvey
from "The Ledger," Meansville [Pike County], Georgia, 1 November 1924
Vol. 2, No. 21, p. 2
On August the 8th, 1924, the seraphic soul of Mrs. G. Van Harvey left its frail tenement in answer to the call of the Master to come up higher. Her husband and four children, mother, sisters and brothers, other relatives and friends were present at her departure and could say, without murmur, "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, Blessed be the name of the Lord!" The funeral services were at the Baptist church at Meansville, Ga., where she had been a member since early girlhood. Her body was laid to rest by the side of her father, the late J. L. Alldredge, who preceded her to the heavenly home, several years. She possessed the quiet virtures [sic] that adorn the home and private life. In the home she was queen, loved and honored by her husband, revered and adored by her children, who rise up now to call her blessed. Through many years of suffering she was ever patient, having an abiding faith in Him who doeth all things well.
Mabel would have been 42 years old on August 10th (died on the 8th) and a great part of these years was spent as a faithful, consistent church member, ever ready to serve where she could. As a friend and neighbor she was loyal and true, but it was in her own home she counted for most. Her advice was often sought by those dear to her and always wisely given. She is not dead, only sleeping, and when her Saviour calls the sleep will have passed away and she will answer "here am I" and then enter into that heavenly abode where all the saints of all ages will be gathered and there through eternity hers will be the glory life.
In November. 1901 she was married to Mr. G. Van Harvey, to this union 4 children were born, one girl Mrs. Al Jones of Texas and 3 boys James, Manry [sic] and Jake all of Atlanta, she was a devoted wife and mother. The grief stricken family has our deepest sympathy especially the husband children, and the mother. The writer would say to the family and to all who knew her, to take the God she served as your God and her life as your example and there will be no doubt of the promised reward, when we shall be ushered into the presence of our Lord.
