My maternal GGGgrandparents are Levin Sparks and Nancy ?, living in Newton Co. in late l820s-early l830s. Their daughter Marcena Sparks m. James D. S. Gowens l850 Newton Co. By l860 census, they and related family members are living in Cherokee Co. AL.

Mary Wright (widow) m. my GGGgrandfather William Alexander Gowens/Goings/etc.(father of James D. S.) in l847 Newton Co. l847. Asberzinia/Arbezena/Asberzinca/etc. Sparks, sister to Marcena, m. Walter Gowens, brother of James D. S. She had been widowed as wife of Jacob Norton.

Two Pope brothers married two Gowens sisters, and two Gowens brothers married two Sparks sisters. If anyone knows where this cemetery is and if there is information on those buried, please let me know. I live in NC, and only occasionally pass through Newton Co. on the way back to Alabama for a visit. I last went through Newton in early March this year.
