Dear Carolyn,
Thanks for the reply and offer to provide information.
I am interested in first-hand accounts (like yours) of what it was like living in the area of Cowpen Road (what your father did for a living, where you went to school and church, how far it was from the nearest store, memorable events like bad weather, etc.) and your memories of traveling the road itself. Also, do you have any photos of family, home, school, church, etc. that date from the time your family lived in the area?
I will be glad to call you or you can reach me at home (295-0632) or at work (291-6223).
By the way, the road (Old Hwy 2) into Cohutta Wilderness from Cisco is currently closed due to a bridge out. A few days ago, I took a church group hiking to Beech Bottom and we had to take an alternate route to the trailhead from Hwy. 411 (Ball Play Road, just across the Tennessee state line). We were surprised to see just how high the Jacks River crested in the vicinity of the falls. I don't know if this was from the Thanksgiving week storms or the hurrican remnants in September, but it must have been an awe inspiring spectacle for those who managed to get down to the falls.
Sincerely,
Dan Roper
