Hi, I'm trying to trace my fathers family roots as far back as possible and have hit a dead end.
The furthest back I got is John Pinkney Bryant, born around 1811, with the earliest confirmed record in 1833 when he married Virginia Cooper in Madison Georgia. (See link below)http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=0&indiv=tr...
I also found his signature in the 1840 census for Madison Georgia.
I did find a John Bryant listed in the 1820 Census for Madison, Georgia, but John Pinkney Bryant would have only been 9 years old so that could be his father, or someone unrelated completely.
There is no federal census data for georgia before 1920 so that doesn't help. I did look though the state census records and found a John Bryant in Franklin county, GA and Oglethorpe, GA which I believe is close to Madison so it could be an ancestor, but there is no way to confirm as far as I can tell.
If anyone could help me figure out where he was born, who his parents were and where they were from, or anything else I would appreciate it.
For background info, John Pinkney Bryant moved to Gilmer, Georgia by 1850, had several kids including my ancestor Elias Bryant, then John and his entire family minus elias disppeared by 1870 because they don't show up in any census data and my ancestor Elias is living with a different family. Eventually he moves to Oklahoma and from there my ancestors are in the oklahoma, texas area.
