Gathered to his Fathers.

It was said of the ancient patriarchs, that they lived to a good old age and were gathered to their fathers, when any of them departed this life. This was simply a way of stating the fact that they were dead.

So we say to day that Uncle Anderson Means lived to a good old age and was gathered to his fathers. He departed this life on last Tuesday, at his home in Monroe county, after an illness of about ten minutes. The machinery of life was run down and stopped without a struggle or a pain. Just simply stopped breathing and was gone to his rest.

Mr. Anderson Means has lived long and well, and has a large concourse of friends and children to mourn his departure.

He was nearly 77 years old, was born in Upson county, but has lived on the place where he was living when he died for 50 years, has been an official member of the church for 50 years, and was one of the charter members of Fredonia church 44 years ago.

His life has been one of untiring devotion to the cause of his Master and he was always ready to do what he could for advancement of his kingdom among men. One of the fitting acts, because it was the closing one, was his attendance on the Annual conference at Fredonia, which closed two days before his death. He enjoyed the sessions of the business meetings very much, and especially the preaching services. He was at home in a religious meeting. It can also be said of this man that he was not a narrow bigot. Where the Word of God was preached he was there to enjoy it and help by his prayers and shouts the hosts of the Lord to the pulling down of the strong holds of sin.

He had born to him ten children, eight of whom survive him, five sons and three daughters.

He is the brother of Mr. J. W. Means who died in this county.

His sister, Mrs. Elliott is with us, and will know in Barnesville.

His friends are many as was seen by the large concourse that attended his funeral at Fredonia church, on Wednesday afternoon which was conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. s. McDaniel, of Atlanta, who has know Bro. Means for forty four years, and has been his pastor for twenty years.

But he has gone from us to await the resurrection morning when we will see him again. Until then let us stand in our lot and wait for the reunion that will give us the privilege to see him again. The christians hope bridges the grave and death unites the saints on the other shore. May we all be ready when the Master calleth.
