Thanks so much for this info....I will pass it on to my cousin Jimmy Mountain ( we are related thru his mom Maggie Robinson Mountain). He has been working on the Mountain genealogy and I beleive there should be a connection somewhere here as his dad was from the same area in Al. as the Adams and Mountains.
Joyce

Hi Joyce...
The Mountains you mentioned don't ring a bell to me but I am sure we are related. Thomas N Mountain was the first born of William Bola "Bill" Mountain and Idella Parr. Next up was Fannie Mae Mountain, Rubie L. Mountain, William Edge Mountain, Ollie Dave Mountain, Mildred J. Mountain, and finally Iokiau "Okie" Mountain. Seven in all.

William "Bill" was the son of William Eldridge Mountain and Anna Bell Smith. They had nine kids together. They were: Pauline, Joana Adelia (Mitchell), Lula Jane "Dee" (Wood), Emma Theodora (Williams), John Monroe, Ruby Laura, William Bola, Enda Lee "Eddie" (Jones), and Bessie Lee "Bess" Mountain.

William Eldridge Mountain was born in Jefferson Co., Georgia Jan. 13, 1819 and was a Reverend. He died Feb 22, 1883 in Cherokee AL. Anna Bell Smith was 22 years his junior... the old dawg. LOL

William Eldridge Mountain's parent are Thomas M. Mountain and Mary Gross. Other than William, the nine children included: and infant daughter that passed early on, Ellen E., Lucretia A., Sarah H., Mary Jane, John Francis, Thomas J., and Martha M.

Thomas M. Mountain's father was also named Thomas (seeing a trend here? LOL). Thomas Sr. was married to Jane (last name unknown) and they had five children including Thomas Jr. The other four are: John, Jane, Elizabeth and Catherine. The original Thomas, Thomas Sr. was born in Ireland, and died Bet. 1820 - 1829 in Jefferson Co, GA.

His father is Francis H. Mountain and was married to a woman named Agnus. He was born between 1740 - 1749 in Ireland,
and died sometime before 1796 in Jefferson Co, GA. Agnus too was born in Ireland, and died after 1821 in Jefferson Co, GA. They were married about 1767 in Ireland and immigrated here with children in tow. Those children number four, and other than Thomas they are: Robert, Martha, and Nancy.

Does any of this look familiar to you Joyce? Likely the Mountains you mentioned descend from these folks.

Hi Joyce,

George Franklin "Guy" Adams married Fannie Beatrice Tolbart Sept. 10, 1899 in Spring Garden, Cherokee County, Alabama, USA. George is my great grandfather and Fannie is, of course, my great grandmother.

Fannie was born in about 1879 in Cherokee County, Alabama and passed away in Chattanooga, TN of stomach cancer on September 22, 1945. She is buried in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Rainesville, AL.

Geo. was born about 1878 in Alabama. He passed away on Oct 22 1967 at Sand Mountain, Alabama in the home of his daughter Essie Benefield and her husband Oscar. He too is buried in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Rainesville, AL along side Fannie.

They had seven children...
Lora Lee Hazel Adams b. Sept. 1, 1902/d. April 14, 1992 and who married Thomas Nathaniel Mountain b. Sept 15, 1899/d. December 26, 1976. These are my grandparents.

Claudia, who married Hugh Simpson. Claudia was born in 1904.

Essie F., who married Oscar Benefield. She was born April 2, 1906 and passed July 25, 1983. If I am not mistaken, I think she too is buried at New Bethel BC Cemetery.

Frankie (female). I haven't done a lot of research on her.

Pearl L. I haven't done a lot of research on her either.

Vera I. I haven't done a lot of research on her yet either.

Back to Geo. and Fannie...

Fannie is the daughter of John Arthur Tolbart (b. Nov. 16, 1847/d. December 13, 1884) and Nannie T. "Texanna" Parr (b. February 3, 1845/d. February 24, 1895).

Geo. Franklin is the youngest of the six children of William and Frances.

I would love to see any information you may have back past William and Frances (either Proctor or Adams)

Robert Priest

Valerie,
I have not found a Reuben Waldrop in my research but really haven't done much on the Waldrop line. I also checked the research of another Waldrop family researcher and he had no mention of a brother named Reuben either. That doesn't mean they are not related, however. Is it possible that Reuben was from the 2nd marriage of Hiram Waldrop? There is some information from Harry Short (the other researcher I mentioned) on my web site that might give you a clue where to look. Good luck in your search! I would enjoy hearing if you find what you are looking for. Here is a link to the information I am talking about.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cindyblank...

Cindy

Valerie,
I was able to finally get a copy of the marriage record for Rebecca Waldrop and Alexander Thompson. Like you I searched throught the online images not only for Coweta County but for any County that was in the immediate vicinity with no luck. I also emailed every county probate clerk in the general area. Finally, the clerk in Coweta County became curious enough when I emailed her again regarding the possible mis-indexing of the record. She went and pulled the original file and "voila"-there it was in the file. I now have a copy of the October 18, 1846 marriage record of Alexander Thompson and Rebecca Waldrop. It does not appear in the index nor the images online of the marriage records of the county but it IS in the original file. Thank you again for giving me the clues I needed to finally find the record.

Cindy Blankenship

Here is a link to the record on my web site in case someone else might want it:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cindyblank...
I know this is a long shot, as I do not have much info to go on.

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Thompson born about 1812 in Georgia (1830 census info places her between 15 and 19 years of age). The 1880 census says that her father was born in Connecticut and her mother in Virginia. She married Michael Horne before the 1830 census, probably around 1828, give or take a year. Michael and Elizabeth were living in Harris County, Georgia in 1830 and had one daughter under 5 years of age.

I have not been able to find a marriage record for them in Georgia or South Carolina, which his where Michael came from.

Thanks,
Sandra
I don't think you can get an actual certificate because Ga only goes back to about 1919 but I did get a photo copy of the book of Records for Marriage Licenses. I also got a photo copy from a book called History of Harris County that shows them listed in marriage. Also, they made me a copy from the book that I think is the census but no date. I am going back to the library tomorrow to see this page and get the date. It lists 7 kids so I need to get the date for this census page. Also, I have a page showing where he served in the Company of 67 Regiment 2nd Division, 9 Brigade Georgia Militia. His captain was Elisha Hightower. I went ahead and made copies but don't worry about it if you don't want the pages. Even if you do want these, I don't want payment because it was less then a dollar. Hope you can use these. Let me know.

I own the book, "Coweta County, Georgia Marriages, 1827-1979, Vol I," published by Coweta Co Historical Society in 1980

On page 157 the following marriage is indexed:

Thompson, Alexander - Waldrop, Rebecca Ann
on 10-18-1946 << yes 1946, not 1846

I then tried checking the original marriage books which are microfilmed & posted at:

http://cdm.sos.state.ga.us:8888/cdm4/countyfilm.php

I have looked through the index as well as about 30 pages of the Book B (1832 - 1855) but so far, nothing. I have also looked in Meriwether Co & Harris Co, Georgia on the same site & could not find anything.

But the listing in the book does lend creedence to a marriage between a couple with those names, at they were transcribed from the orginal records at the Probate Court.

A couple of possibilities:
--1946 is a typo
-- the marriage was not listed in the index so it is can only be found by going through the actual recordings
--It was recorded in a book other than the book covers 1846
(ex. maybe it was recorded in book C (1849-1865) for some strange reason)

I would suggest called the Coweta Co Probate Office to see it it was truly in 1946 and not 1846.

Good Luck,
Valerie Freeman

Yes, and that is what is lacking in this case. There is no record in the clerks ledger to back up that date. That is why I am asking the public for assistance in locating a photocopy of whatever record that was used to verify this marriage date. Thanks!

Thanks for your kind reply. That is what the online databases would lead you to believe, however, when I wrote to the probate clerk in Coweta County, GA on 2 different occassions I was told there was no such marriage record in the historical records. I am looking for a paper copy of the record-not just the online/electronic information that is out there. Do you know of such a copy anywhere? Thank you!!

VA in 1737.He was married to Sarah Cobb.
Joseph was married to Martha Moore and all my findings are that they died in GA possibly in Wilkinson County but I have been unable to find their graves or the grave of one of their children who was my gggrandmother, Nancy Benning Prestwood who I understand also is buried in GA possibly Wilkinson County too.
Do you have any information on any of Pleasant's siblings?
Thank you!!
Terry

Hey,

I remember some family conversations regarding a Mack Miller. I have to check in my notes to see and my family and I took pictures of the family cemetery last year. In 2010 there were over 200 family members that attended the reunion here in Atlanta. This is my email address, we can communicate on that. I don't go to ancestry.com all the time. And yes I do have names of some of the ancestors in Harris County. I live in East Point. I do a family history book for each reunion. If you would like to have a copy let me know. Perhaps we can meet up at Camp Creek Marketplace or whereever you would like.

Deborah
debbiedanielsdawson@yahoo.com

Hi Deborah!
Yes, I live here in Atlanta Georiga off of South Fulton Pkwy. This is great news! My mothers side of the family is from Lousiana. I go to Monroe every year for our annual family reunion held on the 4th of July as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving. My grandmother is Annie Lee McCrary(Frazier). Her grandfather was William Williams born about 1858 and he married Minnie Hudson. Their daughter was Isabel and she married Cooper Miller (Brother of Mack Miller). Thier daughter (my grandmothers mother) was Madie Miller. My grandmother said William Williams owned a large amount of land for a black person and the Williams and Hudson families were considered "well off" blacks. If they are as large as you state I know its going to take alot of digging to find out this information. Do you have any records of the people I listed?

Good morning,
I am a member of the Williams Hudson family of Harris/Muscogee County, Georgia. We have a family reuion every 2 years in various parts of the country. Our next reunion will be in New Orleans 2014. I am the one of the family historians in the family. I haven't heard of William Williams but there were so many Williams and Hudsons back in the day it was hard to tell who belonged to whom. I have a Minnie Hudson in the family tree. Her relatives live here in Atlanta. I don't have much on the Husdson because they didn't talk much about their family.
There is a Williams Hudson cemetery which is hard to find. It is located on private land that has a locked gate. There is another family cemetery behind Friendship Church. The other side of the "family" cemetery with Hudsons and Williams is located in a cemetery behind City Hall. The old Hudson plantation is now burned down but it was located on Hoody Hudson Road in Harris County. There is an old planation house still there that belonged to the Walker family. It will give you an idea of what the old Hudson house looked like. Are you here in Georgia?
My family consists of Hudson, Williams, Thompson, Daniel, Walker, Marshal(l). My great great grandfather/grandmother was Louis (Lewis) Hudson and Jane Marshal Hudson. My great grandfather and grandmother were Issac Williams and Georgianne Hudson Williams. My grandmother/grandfathers were Lizzie Williams Thompson McCotton and Ocie Thompson and Aldena McCotton
Deborah Daniels Dawson

Something very peculiar is I went to the library in Hamilton and it sat on Mack Miller lane. I asked and spoke the librarian that Mack Miller Lane (which the library sat on) in Hamilton was named after my great uncle and she was adamant that she didn’t know who he was. I also told her that the school that now sits in Hamilton is where his park once was and still she didn’t know. She stated that Hamilton didnt keep records of alot of the blacks in the area. I'm still taken aback because you stated they were well known as my grandmother had adamantly stated. I assumed she may have bitten off more than she could chew. I hope someone can help.

Look up Williams-Hudson.com on the web. These folks have a huge family association and lots of info on their website. I've forwarded your plea to Deborah Dawson, one of their historians. Mack Miller was a highly esteemed leader in the black community into the 50s. Since the Hamilton Cemetery is still sadly segregated by race he's not the one there. I'd love to be proved wrong here. My Williams ancestors enslaved your Williams ancestors. I have much info on them and am publishing a book about the town, my family, black and white, and racial goings on from slavery forward. It'll be out sometime next year.

I’m trying to research my family history in Harris Co but it’s really hard. I went to Hamilton and went to Friendship Baptist church because my grandmother Annie Lee McCrary stated this was the church she attended as a child. Not much help did I receive from the church, courthouse, or library.
My great- great -great Grandfather was William Williams married to Minnie Hudson. My great great-grandfather Cooper Miller married their daughter Isabel. Cooper Millers brother was Mack Miller who married Annie Lee (my grandmother is named after her). From what I hear Mack Miller had a park named after him in Hamilton Georgia. My grandmother stated the Williams, Hudson, and Miller families were very large families. I was also told that the Hudson and William families have their own cemeteries. I couldn’t find them online however. I would love to know as much as possible about them. Can somebody please help?
Thank you for your response. I already have that information and more. I have not found any information yet on where the family came from in South Carolina. I'm planning to seek as much information on Rachel's children in order to find more clues. I was hoping someone out there may have something I don't. Again, thank you so much.

I'm seeking information on the Harris family who originated in South Carolina and relocated to Walker County in the East Aramuchee area of Georgia. Rachel Harris was the head of the household her children included Elizabeth (the oldest), David Derick, Nathan (he was born in Alabama his sibblings all born in South Carolina), Richard, William....The last record I have for Rachel is 1870 and she is still in Georgia. I would like to know if anyone knows her husband's name which would really help in my research. Her daughter Elizabeth is my ggg-grandmother; Elizabeth was married to Ensley Cottrell and to Lewis Angle.

Hi my name is Valyncia Marcellette Morrison and I live in Daytona Beach, Florida and for years I have been intrigued with my family genealogy. I resently started my quest in May of 2010. I am currently researching my family genealogy records on my mothers paternal and maternal sides of the family.I am requested research of any documentation of the family members listed.

The Fifteenth Census of the United States: 1930 Population for Muscogee County, Georgia Militia District 713

Listed As:
Head
Street, Joe b1870 Born in Macon, Georgia
Minnie B. b1885 Bornt in Harris Co Wife
Greenleaf, Rose M.
Grand-Daughter b1927

James Greenleaf b1862 Harris County
Fannie "Hudson" Greenleaf b1871 Georgia

I need more information of other locations.

I also found what I have been searching for quite some time now was my mothers great-grandparents on her maternal side on the Twelfth Census of the United States: 1900 Schedule No. 1 Population for Harris County, Georgia, Cataula District 696.

George Thornton b1853
He was only found on the 1900 census I need more information on the rest of his family.
He married Corrie " " Thornton b1864 they married in 1879. I need to know her maiden name so I can research her family.

I recently found my great great great grandmother on the 1870 census in Harris County, Georgia. Her name is Delphia Greenleaf born in 1790 in Africa. But this is the only listed record.
I need to know the names of the land owners in Georgia in 1790 and earlier 1800s to established a connection with surnames. I need to find more information on Delphia Greenleaf. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

You can send a response to business103@hotmail.com
Sincerely,

Valyncia Morrison

James Simpson married Mary Ann McAfee Smith on 16 August 1845 in Harris county, they had two daughters living with Mary Ann in the 1860 census. Katherine Nelson Simpson who married Reuben Mobley Katherine was born 20 June 1846 and died 16 March 1922 in Harris County, GA she is buried at the Hamilton City Cemetery.
I could not find James and Mary Ann in the 1850 census and have not found Mary Ann after the 1860 census.

I am attaching Katherine Nelson Simpson Mobley death certificate. It has her parents named listed.

Would be interested in a list of Archibalds children, might help in finding my missing information.
The names all seem to fit my Simpson's.

I am sorry does not ring any bells here, but am interested in your Katherine Nelson Simpson's birthdate? I wonder if she is the grandmother of Katherine Nelson Simpson Mobley who was the daughter of James Simpson and Mary Ann McAfee Smith Simpson. Could James and your John be brothers?

I do have a family in Harris county that was headed by a Robert Simpson, wife Temperance that had 3 children, James born in 1822, Caroline who married Thomas Newton Sparks she was born in 1830 and a Robert born in 1833 I have often wondered if this James was married to Mary Ann but cannot find any proof and he would have been at least 12 years younger then Mary Ann so I find it doubtful.

Hello my name is Terry Stewart and I am researching A possible
connection to the Line of Robert Simpson who was a son of (Kitty) Katherine Nelson Simpson and her husband Archibald Simpson. My guy John Simpson is my brick wall however A cousin of my mom's got a Son of The Rev. War approval using some wrong info but was approved. His mistake was he used a David Butler Simpson for his Great Grand Father and not his real Great Grandfather John Simpson. But David B. Simpson was not a son of Robert but his Brother's William Simpson son. And have no proof on Paper that my John was Robert and his wife Louise Lapreiste son. Other than this application and also another fact that David B.Simpson bought property from my John Simpson's father inlaw Alexander Humphreys in Lavaca Co., Tx. In the Mid 1850's have the paper work for this transaction. Where David B. moved from Ga. to Texas
with out visiting Texas before his move and seeing the property. make me believe that my John and David were kin of sorts but again no documented proof. How ever buying about 450 Acres of land unseen seems a little weird with out some knowledge of what and were your buying at.
Hope this rings some type of Bells and whistles.
Let Me Know shooting into the unknown here.
Thank You For Your Time,
Terry Stewart
twstew1@comcast.net
2110 Savanna Ct N.
League City, Tx. 77573
