Seeking info re my 3rd gr-grandparents Moses Newton Powell b. abt 1811 in Georgia and Ann M. Burney b. abt 1812 in Georgia. They were married May 25, 1835 in Newton Co. Georgia. Their children were James Chapman, Peter Randall, William Riley, my 2nd gr-grandfather George Washington b. Oct. 30, 1844, near Marietta, Cobb Co., Sarah, and Levina. I first found this family in Forsyth Co. 1860 census.

George Washington Powell married Martha Elenor Pankey in Polk Co. Georgia July 30, 1874. Their first child John Moses Powell b. Feb. 19, 1876, in Forsyth Co. The family went to Arkansas betw 1876-1878. Children born in Johnson, Pope, and Van Buren Counties, Arkansas are James William b. 1878, Peter Randall b. 1883, Laura Elenor b. 1889, and Robert Burney b. 1891. Moses Newton Powell is listed in the George Washington Powell household in Johnson Co. Arkansas in 1880 but Ann's name is not there. John Moses my gr-grandfather married Minnie Beulah Cleveland 1898 in Conway Co. Arkansas.

If any of these names are familiar please let me know. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Donna,

Do you have any records for Ann M. Burney who married Moses Newton Powell May 25, 1835 in Newton Co. Georgia? I found a marriage record for Larkin Brown & Milly Burner/ possibly Burney dated 1824 in Newton County, Georgia. Do you have any record of a Larkin Brown in your family?

Meredith,

Thank you for your response. I am looking for the parents of Ann Burney who married Moses Nathan Powell. I found a Milly Burney who married Larkin Brown 1824 in Newton Co., Georgia. Did Ann Burney have a sister named Milly or Permelia Burney? I also found a Randal Burney living in Newton County, Georgia on the 1830 census. Could he be the father of these girls? Larkin & Permelia Brown were living in Cobb Co., Georgia when the 1850 census was taken. There are several Burney families listed in the county.

Larry, thank you for the reply but I'm afraid I don't yet know anything about Ann Burney. Please keep me in mind if you find a Burney ancestor connection!

Thank you for this information, Meredith! It's been a long time since I posted that query and had all but given up on learning anything more about my ancestor Moses N. Powell.

Guess this makes us cousins! I hope to hear from you again.

Donna,

Good to hear from you! I'd be happy to send you my Powell file that goes further back on the Powells but doesn't have as much on your Moses. Have you seen George T. Powell, Sr.'s two volumne set on the Powell & Hardman families? It's called The Virginians: Thomas Powell & John Hardman Their Descendants 1634-1985.

Hi Meredith! It would be so cool to see the Powell info you have. I corresponded with some one in Newton County last year and he sent me copies of probate records for Moses Sr. I'd be glad to share them with you.

I've heard of the book but have not seen it. I found some info in a book called The Powell Families of Virginia and The South and until your posting was stuck at Moses N. and Ann Burney.

You can email me directly - donna.powell@pgn.com

Thank you so much!! I look forward to hearing from you! Where are you? I'm in Oregon
