Hughes Reunion

I am not familiar with the photo that you have, but if it was a reunion at Hopewell Church I am sure Leona Hughes would be in it. Miss Leona walked me through Hopewell one day and told me that after church she was delegated to walk through the cemetery with her grandmother and that her grandmother would stop at each grave - marked or not and tell her about the person that was buried there. I also would not be suprised to find some Wallis kin in the photo.

I would not know any of the people in the picture, but if you are local, I would show it to other families besides Hughes because neighbors also came to reunions so that they could visit with old friends.

Billy,

I am of the same Bennett line as Isabella Bennett wife of Rev. James Edward Hughes & Lucinda Bennett wife of Russell Hughes. Isabella and Lucinda's father "Elijah" was the brother of Henry Bennett my ggg-grandfather.

Would love to know more about these family's and the picture you have.
Thanks

In 1928 the Hughes family held a reunion at the Hopewell Methodist Church in Forsyth county. A photo was taken of the more than 100 in attendance and mass produced for everyone in the photograph.

I have tried to identify the subjects in this photo and have only nineteen names to date. Those that have been identified are with few exceptions the children of my g.grandfather James Edward Hughes b.1824 d.1882 and their children.

Would be happy to exchange info with anyone knowledgeable of, or interested in the photo

I have just found through research my Grandfather Jesse
Eugene Hughes was Born Feb. 12, 1905 in Forsyth Co. City of Gainesville?. His father was Ben Napoleon Hughes and his mother was Fannie Borders,I have no information on Ben or Fannie and very little on Jesse. My mother has a picture of Ben holding my older brother some fifty years ago a few years before his death in the late 1940's or early 1950's. If you have any information would greatly apprieciate it as I have very liitle from the Hughes side of the Family.

Sincerely

Rodney L. Hughes

I am interested in the Wallis family buried at Hopewell Cemeterey. Do you know the maiden name of Eliza Wallis? She was married to William Wallis. I am working on this line for my daughter-in-law. I was recently there in Forsyth Co. and went to the cemetery and saw the graves. Would be interested in any info of this family. She is also related to the Bennetts. Joel Bennett Sr.

Eliza was a Wofford.
William spoke Cherokee, but Eliza didn't.

Sharon,
I too, am interested in the Wallis name in Forsyth County. My 3rd great-grandfather, Tyra Wallis was listed in the 1850 census as 17 years old and living in the household of his father John Wallis and wife Jemimah. Would this be the same Wallis line that you are researching? There were several members of this line that had the name William or the initial "W" in their middle names.
If this is the same line, I will share anything I have.

Donna,
Was your William Wallis Cherokee? I have my 3rd great-grandfather (Tyra Wallis) living with his parents John and Jemimah Wallis in the 1850 census. Are they by chance any kind to your William Wallace?

Is there any way I could get a copy of the photo you have of the Hughes Family. I am from a line of Hughes from Forsyth County, Georgia. My Great grandfather was John Chapel Hughes, the eldest son of James E. Hughes and Isabella Bennett. James E. Hughes was the son of Macajah Hughes and Mary Johnson who had moved to Forsyth County Georgia from Pickens County South Carolina. I have found that both James E. Hughes and his brother Andrew Oliver Hughes were both Methodist Preachers, and a lot of my Hughes family members are buried at the Hopewell Methodist church there in Forsyth County, Georgia, and even som of the Bennett lines including Edny Pruitt-Bennett who was the mother of Isabella Bennett
