My ggg grandparents were Aaron (1796-1844) and Elizabeth (Brown) (1800-1874)Fowler also. I have never found Elizabeth's last name until I read your posting. Thank you! I come from their daughter Sarah Suzannah Fowler. Do you, by chance, have any information about Sarah, i.e., where she is buried and if in fact she had Indian blood?

Thanks much,
Denise

I am a direct descendant of William Marcus Fowler (1803-1884)who married Lucinda "Lucy" Elizabeth Nix (1808-1902). Their daughter Lydia S. Fowler (1846-1926)married Andrew J. Fowler (1840-1925). Andrew J. Fowler was a son of William Benjamin Fowler (1824-1909) and Martha Rachel Balote (1824-1910). William Benjamin Fowler was a son of Aaron Fowler (1796-1844) and Elizabeth Brown (1800-1874). William Benjamin Fowler and Martha Rachel Balote were married in Forsyth Co., Ga. on Sept. 4, 1842 per Marriage Book A, Page 138. If I am correct, I understand that Aaron Fowler died in Cherokee Co., Ga. in Oct. of 1844. I find his widow Elizabeth listed in household # 634 of the 1850 census Forsyth Co., Ga.. The Elizabeth Fowler household is listed as follows:
Household #634
Elizabeth Fowler 50 f 400 NC 1800
Andrew J. Fowler 21 m Farmer GA 1829
Mary A. R. Fowler 22 f SC 1828
Sarah S. Fowler 18 f GA 1832
Nathaniel M. Fowler 14 m GA 1836
Matthew C. Fowler 12 m GA 1838
Martha A Fowler 8 f GA 1842
Elizabeth J. Fowler 6 f GA 1844

And the William and Rachel Fowler in household # 671 of the 1850 census Forsyth Co., Ga.. The William Fowler Household was listed as follows:
Household #671
William Fowler 26 m Farmer 100 SC
Rachel 25 f ga
Lucinda 5 f ga
Elsberry C. 4 m ga
Andrew J. 2 m ga
Augustus R. 6/12 m ga

since the 1850 census of Forsyth Co., Ga. only shows the whole county listed as 31st District, I do not know what area of Forsyth Co., GA. Elizabeth Fowler Household or the William Fowler Household were located in Forsyth Co., Ga., but I understand that Elizabeth was buried in the Fowler Family Cemetery along with her son William Benjamin Fowler and his wife Martha Rachel Balote.

I found the following information:
FOWLER
Baptist Leader, 6 June 1902 says "East of Town Section - James Wheeler came from Hall Co., Ga. in 1842. Nobody lives here except W. B. Fowler who came in 1833."
Fowler Graves
Martha
Rachel (Mother)
W. B. (Father)

I do not remember the source of this note from the Baptist Leader, but I assume that W. B. Fowler lived East of Cumming, GA. near or on property where James Wheeler lived. Many may know where W. B. and Rachel Fowlers' graves are located but I have never been to their grave site.

My Question is this, Was Aaron Fowler and William Marcus Fowler brothers? I know that James Wheeler (1817-1908)and his wife Rosa Ann "Rosy" Davenport (1823-1899) are buried at Beaver Ruin Baptist Church which is East of Cumming, GA. and that their ninth child, Kansis Septemia Wheeler (1858-1938) married Rev. Elias A. Cochran (1845-1931)on Dec. 15, 1901. That Kansis was the third wife of Elias Cochran and that his first two wives were Jane Fowler (1830-1888)and Sarah Emaline "Emma" Fowler (1834-1901)and that these two Fowler Women were the daughters of James Fowler (1797-1876)who married Sarah Smith (1804-1875). James Fowler was a brother of William Marcus Fowler. This was shown from some research by Tracey Fowler Bean who posted the following message.
"This post is to all the descendants of James Fowler and William M Fowler of northern Cherokee Co and Southern Forsyth Co. I was at the archives pulling compiled confederate records and pension records for William T Fowler and George W Fowler. At first I assumed that this George W Fowler was the brother to William T Fowler and son of James Fowler. While reading the pension records of Sarah A Porter Fowler (wife of William T Fowler), I noticed that in the testimony of George W Fowler he states that he is the cousin of William T Fowler (not his brother as I had assumed). So I pulled the pension records of George W Fowler and he is the son of William M Fowler. George W Fowler’s son Benjamin L Fowler testified in his pension records. So since George W Fowler testified that he was a near neighbor and cousin of William T Fowler, it makes sense to me that William M Fowler and James Fowler were related and I believe probably brothers."

James and Sarah Fowler were also founding members of New Harmony Baptist Church which is located in Forsyth Co., Ga. on Heardsville Rd. about 1/4 of a mile east of the Forsyth and Cherokee Co. line off Hwy 20 or about 4 miles south of Hwy 369 close to where Lower Creighton/Franklin Gold Mine Rd. crosses Heardsville Rd. in Ducktown, GA. and is also the location of the old Parks and Fowler Gold Mine as mentioned in Don Shadburns' Book Pioneer History of Forsyth Co., Ga. in Chapter 4: Goldmining in the Cherokee Country, page 59 Parks and Fowler Mines.

William Marcus Fowler had a son named Charles B. Fowler (1855-?)who married Georgia Ann "Georgian" Caroline Campbell (1853-1924)in Forsyth Co., Ga. on April 1, 1875 per Marriage Book D, Page 355. Both Charlie and Georgian Fowler are buried at Hightower Baptist Church in Cheorkee Co., GA. Charlie was my gg-grandfather and William Marcus was my ggg-grandfather. My g-grandmother Lena Gertrude Fowler (1883-1972) and married Charles Wesley "Wes" Edwards (1883-1972)and Wes and Lena lived in Ducktown, GA. all there married lives.

Also Andrew J. Fowler is in the 1870 census of the Hightower District of Forsyth Co., GA. as follows:
Page 22
House 189
Family 159
Jett James M. 29 m w farmhand
Jett Lucinda 22 f w keeping house
Jett John L. 1 m w at home
Fowler Andrew J. 20 m w farmhand
Fowler Lydia 22 f w keeping house
Fowler Jeff Davis 7 m w at home
Fowler Josiah 5 m m at home
Fowler William 3 m w at home
Fowler Mary J. 2/12 f w at home

Given the facts that James and Sarah Fowler, along with Elias Cochran, Jane Fowler-Cochran, Sarah Emaline "Emma" Fowler-Cochran, Kansis "Kanse" Septemia Wheeler-Cochran, Charles and Georgian Fowler are all buried at Hightower Baptist Church in Cherokee Co. Ga. which is about a mile and a half west of the Cherokee-Forsyth Co. line on Hwy 369. And since William Marcus Fowler and Lucy Nix-Fowler are buried in their Fowler Family Cemetery in Cherokee Co., Ga. which is about a mile south of Hightower Baptist Church and a mile west of the Cherokee and Forsyth Co. line off Edwards Mill Rd. which is off Lower Creighton Rd/Franklin Gold Mine Rd. off Hwy 369, I am beleive that Aaron Fowler may have been a brother to James and William Marcus Fowler. I was told that there were several Fowlers who settled in Forsyth and Cherokee Co. in the early 1830's before the Cherokee Indians were removed in 1838. Also I found a Thomas (born about 1815)and Hannah Fowler (born about 1820) who lived in Household 319 in the 1870 Census of the Cross Roads 1000th District G. M. of Cherokee Co., Ga. and William Marcus Fowler lived in Household 316 of the same county and G. M. District.
If any of my information is incorrect or the individuals that I have found listed in the various census records are not the individuals that I have mentioned here, please let me know. Anybody who may be able to link James and William Marcus Fowler to either Aaron Fowler or Thomas Fowler as related please send me an e-mail at howard_w@bellsouth.net

I don't have any info at hand on the Fowler-Tidwell family other than the union. Somewhere in all this mess, that I am trying to get back up online and in the Family Tree Program, I have the census records of them and their children.

Anything you would care to share with me on the lineage, I would greatly appreciate for I enjoy placing all of us cousins together in my files.

I have not had the time in the past 5 years to do any research but perhaps in the months to come I can once again enjoy placing the puzzles together.

Best Wishes and we will keep in touch.

There ia a document at the Forsyth County Court House filed by Elizabeth Fowler, widow of Aaron Fowler dated 20 May 1855 where she list the minor children (Sarah Susannah, Nathaniel Meers, Mathew Callaway, Martha Armind?, Elizabeth Irena) and asking for pension from her husbands service to the Florida War.

There are several documents and regiments and dates are a little confusing to me because of the handwritting on some however In his service document it states that he appears on the Mustered Out Roll dated the 7th of May, 1838, Camp Cell, Hall County, GA. He joined as a private of Capt. Montgomery's Company of GA Mountes Volunteer on 5 Oct 1837 in Hall Co. GA. He mustered in the 28 Dec 1837 and placed at Fort White, FL then there is listed a Regiment of Col. Elijah W Chastian.

"Fowler, Aaron, Montgomery Co., Wilson's Batt'n, Georgia Mtd. Vols. Florida War, Private, Card Number 12428466, 12428528"

He returned home in a wagon from Florida where he contined to suffer with "dropsy of the chest". He lived with his wife and children in Cherokee County GA until his death (5th of Oct 1844) at the home of Stephen Bates. He died of general debiliy (?) supposed to have been caused by exposure while in the time of his duty in the service. Dr John Bates was his physician at the time of death.

It is stated they married in Pendleton District, SC on the 8th of Feb 1821 however there is to be no other record of said marriage. However, for the purpose of proof, a witness had signed an affidative. At that time of the application for pension, she was residing in Forsyth County however they had lived in Rabun County GA previous.

On the 15 of May 1868 at the age of 71 yrs. Elizabeth returns for an increase of pension. She is a resident of Forsyth Co, GA. She was awarded $8.00 from her original $3.50

All information above is from written documents filed at the Cummin, Forsyth Co, GA Court House. They are the words of Elizabeth Fowler and public officials making record of said documents.

I hope this helps some of you researching Aaron and Elizabeth Fowler.

The Fowler Cemetary you are speaking of exist. Their are only about 3 legable tombstones and W B and his wife is one. Elizabeth is suppose to be buried there however, we do not know where her marker is for many of them that still exist are just little field stones (rocks). I have a picture of the cemetary and tombstone and will be happy to scan and email to anyone that request it. It will be on my site as soon as I can get it back online.

The Forsyth Co and Cherokee Co Fowler's are related. I have a full chart joining these familes which are massive but will get back online.

As for Aaron's brother, I have been researching a Moses, b- 1799 SC who was married to Mary (Park) b 1798 SC. With the following children 1. John M who married Delila (Vaughn), 2. Andrew, 3. William, 4. Nancy E who married 1st J P Hutchins and 2nd John Stuart, 5. Basheba E and 6. Susan. Trying to make the connection there.

I am going to add another post since this is so long and want to speak of Charles B Fowler because this is also part of my lineage interest.

I do hope ya'll found this of interest and help.
Best Wishes,
Janis

My aunt Florance (Fowler) Johnson passed away this past year. I had tried on occasion to tie her lineage into my fathers Fowler line but had not really had the time to work on in.

It seems the two of you were directly relatied.

She called him Charley but you have him as Charles as I believe I found on the 1860 census (#841/895) in Cross Roads Dist in Cherokee County GA. Tombstone has it as "Charley".

Wm Fowler with wife Lucy S and children: George W, Sarah S, Lydia S, Mary E, Charles B, Wiley, Williams S, William B.

In the 1910 census for Cherokee Co GA @ Cross Roads Dist Charlie B Fowler is listed with his wife Georgia A and children Grady, Harrison H, Emma B. however in the 1900 census there was children Lena, Miner and his mother Sarah listed.

All I have on the line is:
Pictures from the cemetary tombstones and the following:

Charley B Fowler b. May 1853 and Georiga Ann (Campbell) b. April 1849, Fowler buried at Hightower Cem, Cherokee Co GA.

Harrison H Fowler, b 4 July 1892, d 10 Sep 1948 buried at Hightower Cem " GA WAGONER 36 INF 12 DIV WWI"

Henry Grady Fowler b 17 Dec 1889 in Opkin area, Cherokee Co, GA; d 14 Feb 1958 Married Eller Gravitt b. 20 May 1894, d. 15 Jun 1983. Both are buried at buried at Hightower Cem, Ballground GA.
Children: Fletcher Roy; Martha "Mattie" Mae; Florance b 16 May 1916 Cumming, Forsyth Co, GA, d 2002; Walter E "Henry" b 1922 d 1945 buried at Hightower Cem.

Florance Fowler married Albert Jerome Johnson with the following children: Helen Frances, William Eugene and Alian Jerry. They lived in Atlanta, Fulton Co, GA. Buried at Hillcrest Cemetary, East Point, Fulton, GA.

I have pictures of the above tombstones at Hightower and will send upon request.

Any help you can share I would greatly appreciate.
Best Wishes,
Janis

I have a Sarah Fowler in my family line. I don't know her birth date. She married a Bearden. She has a daughter Sarah born abt. 1852 and died 1877 along with her husband Jeptha Ridings. Jeptha was my gg grandfather. They lived in Cherokee and Pickens County. I believe Sarah and Jeptha may be buried at Four Mile Church. They had four boys- John (my grandfather), George, Sylvester and William.
I sure would like to know who raised Sylvester and William. I always heard it was Sarah Fowler Bearden. Any help would be appreciated.
