Ms. Givens,
My name is Wayne Howard. My father was Broughton Howard, married Betty Holbrook. My grandfather was Lewis Grafton Howard, married Ether Loma
Edwards. My great grandparents were Charles Wesley
Edwards, married Lena Gretrude
Fowler.
My great great grandparents were Charles B. Fowler, married
Georgia Ann
Campbell.
I did not know that Charlie's middle name was Bailey. Thanks for the info.
I am sorry to say that I do not know of any connection between William Marcus
Fowler and William Benjamin
Fowler. I also descend thru Charles B. Fowler. My great grandmother Lena Gretrude
Fowler was the sister to your grandmother Emma Bell
Fowler. I meet Emma once over 45 years ago when she came to visit
Granny Edwards. Lena was married to Wes
Edwards and even tho she was my great grandmother, I always called her
Granny Edwards. I was born in 1951 and I think that I was only about 10 or 11 when Emma visited
Granny, but I remember walking to New Harmony Church Graveyard to clean the grave of their brother Minor. Minor was the husband of Lessie
Edwards, grandpa Wes
Edwards sister.
In my research, I have Charles B. Fowler as married to
Georgia Ann Caroline "Georgiann"
Campbell on April 1, 1875. This marriage is recorded in
Forsyth Co. Marriage Book D, Page 355. I have a copy of it. My grandmother Ether Loma
Edwards did not die until 1997 and I started my research about 1991 so I talked to her as much as I could. She told me her grandparents were buried at
Hightower Baptist Church and I found the grave very easily. There was an error on Georgiann's grave in that it listed her last name as Cammel. Grandma Ether told me her maiden name was
Campbell and records bear that to be a fact.
I found the graves of William Marcus
Fowler and his wife Lucinda Elizabeth "Lucy" Nix. You will find William and Lucy N. Fowler listed in the 1850 census of
Cherokee Co., Ga. in the 15th Division in Dwelling 1008. In 1850 they were listed as follows:

GAI do not know who the last name in the 1870 census,
Adeline Williams, is, but I suspect that she might have been a relitive. William and Lucy are buried in a private family plot located behind the Green Home, which is near the intersetion of
Edwards Mills Rd. and Franklin Goldmine Rd.
If you ever try to find it please remember that Franklin Goldmine Rd, which goes north off
GA Hwy 20, forks and the name of the larger road changes to Creighton Rd and the smaller rd is Franklin Goldmine Rd. William and Lucy's old log cabin still stands near the intersection of Franklin Goldmine and
Edwards Mill Rd. There is still an artisian well running on the property.
As far as the ancestory of William Marcus
Fowler, It is thought that James
Fowler was his brother, but no proof to that fact. Tracey
Fowler Bean suggested that they were probably brother when she posted the following:
This post is to all the descendants of James
Fowler and William M
Fowler of northern
Cherokee Co and Southern
Forsyth Co. I was at the archives pulling compiled confederate records and pension records for William T
Fowler and George W
Fowler. At first I assumed that this George W
Fowler was the brother to William T
Fowler and son of James
Fowler. While reading the pension records of Sarah A
Porter Fowler (wife of William T
Fowler), I noticed that in the testimony of George W
Fowler he states that he is the cousin of William T
Fowler (not his brother as I had assumed). So I pulled the pension records of George W
Fowler and he is the son of William M
Fowler. George W Fowler’s son Benjamin L
Fowler testified in his pension records. So since George W
Fowler testified that he was a near neighbor and cousin of William T
Fowler, it makes sense to me that William M
Fowler and James
Fowler were related and I believe probably brothers.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this or had other evidence as to their kinship. I had always thought that since they lived so near each other that they were probably related.
Let me know what you think.
Tracey
Fowler BeanTbean95@bellsouth.netF.Y.I. William T. Fowler who married Sarah
Porter was the son of James and Sarah Smith-Fowler. All of this family are also buried at
Hightower Baptist Church in
Cherokee Co., GA.
A person named Jackie Kleger posted the following:

My family surname is
Fowler from S.C. I have been working on the family since 1982. My gggrandfather James
Fowler was born in S.C. in 1797 and the story goes there was a young man by the name of
Barton who went to war. When he returned his family had been killed or moved away, so the young man went to live with neighbors or? and took their name
Fowler. I have always wondered if this was true and probably is because it came down through the family. They also named the boys in all the lines down either James, William or Thomas. If I can ever trace the Fowler's to the Barton's it might be the same line.
Lee Fowler's ggrandfather (Phillip K) and my ggrandfather (William Thomas) were brothers. I believe James
Fowler 1869-1936 (W.T. son) lived at one time in
Hall County because my dad use to go to Gainsville to cut trees on one of the mountains. They also had the first Case steam tractor in the county (Hall or Forysth).
My elderly Uncle said after the war when he (
Barton) returned home and the family was gone he went to a neighbor to live and took their name, so there might not have been an adoption. I need to figure out what war and where in S.C. this took place.
An earlier post from a person named Lee
Fowler reads:

lfowler@hiwaay.net Rumors handed down thru several lines of Fowlers has it that we were originally Bartons and were adopted by a
Fowler family. James
Fowler b. 1797 in SC migrated to
GA in early 1820's. Also brother William and possible brother Thomas (no proof). Several
Fowler descendants have the given name
Barton, which leads credence to the rumor. During my research I have met very distant cousins who were told the same thing. I cannot link James
Fowler to any of the
Fowler lines in SC. He stopped for a while in
Hall County,
GA (as did a number of
Barton families) before settling in Forsyth/Cherokee counties
GA. [Another member of this clan is Ken
kleger@omnicast.net. For more information on this family, see
Cherokee Co., GA.]
[Lee (above) mentioned on his web page
http://fly.hiwaay.net/~lfowler/family01/i0000207.htm#i207 that James, Sarah and daughter Jane were living in
Habersham during the 1830 census.
Lette (b. 1818; SC)
Elizabeth (1822;
GA) [Why such a gap between Eliz. & Jane? Death of children in between? Perhaps md. twice?]
Jane (b. 1830)
Phillip K. (b. 1832) Lee says Phillip's birth place was
Hall County.]
This is about all I have to offer.
I am interested in knowing who your mother Mattie was. I have eight children born to Emma Bell
Fowler and David Harvey Bryson.
Onnie Wesley, Dorsey Harrison, Mary Ruth, David Haygood, Leland, Laura Mae, Emma Myrtle, and Dorothy Helen. If you could e-mail me any family files you have I would appreciate it. If I can provide you with info, let me know.
P.S. I also found the following in the 1870 census of
Forsyth Co., Ga. in the Borough of Cumming.
