My Great Grandfather was Nathaniel Meirs Tidwell. I have not started with the Fowler side of the family. Do you have any information that you can share?

You should be able to find most everything you are looking for
in Forsyth county Ga. Chattahoochee dist from 1840 through
1880 census Henry Tidwell married susannah Fowler she was the daughter of Aaron and elizabeth Fowler her brother was
Andrew J. Fowler married Martha J. Gravitt January 29th 1859.
henry remarried Judy Gravitt widow of Gilford Gravitt in 1860
after susannah fowler died. You will find a connection between
the tidwells, fowlers, and gravitts also local churches have valuble info they include Beaver Ruin Babtist, Bethel Babtist,
shady grove Babtist. nathaniel meirs Tidwell was the son of Henry Tidwell and susannah Fowler, he was raised by his grand mother Elizabeth Fowler, her maiden name is thought to be Duncan, according to my family history she was the daughter of Young Charles Duncan and Dorcus benge lightfoot
full blood cherokee. This however has yet to be proved this is only what has been handed down through my family. I hope this info helps.

Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I have posted my family tree at:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/a/w/John-Lawson...

and as always can use all the help I can get to continue on and to correct mistakes.

I really appreciate hearing about Henry Tidwell marrying Judy Gravitt. Can you tell me where you found that record?

It is in the forsyth county marrage book records I will dig
through my files and find the book and page number and repost it for you also in the beaver ruin church records.
I will need a little time to go back through my records
to find it it is packed in some boxes or I will go back to the forsyth county Ga. probate court and get another copy.

He also had another brother named James Tidwell.
Sarah,s middle name was susannah. "Sarah susannah Fowler"
Two of these brothers went to Arkansas one stayed in georgia
but I can,t remember which ones went I beleive it was
Nathaniel and Aaron anderson Tidwell. They are listed in the 1870 census forsyth county Ga, with Elizabeth Fowler grand mother.
Judy Gravitt is sometimes listed as Judah her maiden name was hendrix, sometimes spelled hendricks.

After looking over your site all the info that you have
matches what I have except Elizabeth Fowlers maiden name
you have it listed as Brown is there proof of this? if so
would you be kind enough to share it with me, also it has been pasted down through my family of Indian decent have you heard this, I am aware of winny Tidwell and Young Deer I was
raised on young deer creek in forsyth county Ga. It has also been said that our Elizabeth was 1/2 cherokee and that the Gravitt,s and Hendrix families are of Indian decent.

Nathanial Mears Fowler ,son of Elizabeth and Aaron Fowler is my ancestor. I am fascinated by this information. I would like more information about the Tidwells and Gravitts. My Nathanial(Fowler)went to Arkansas and then into Indian Territory, founding the town of Fowlerville, later to be Valiant Ok. Would love to share information. I had a picture of Nathanial Mears Tidwell but lost it. Maybe some one has it. Thanks so much for the information. Davine(Fowler)Glasscock

My great great grand father is Andrew J. Fowler married
Martha J. Gravitt January 29th 1859 he was the son of Aaron
and Elizabeth Fowler he was born in 1829 in Rabun county Ga.
his older brothers and sisters were born in what is now
pickens oconee county,s south carolina "Old pendelton dist"
Martha J. Gravitt was born in May of 1839 in Forsyth county
Ga. There is some dispute as to who her mother and father were however it has been told in my family that her mother and father were Alfred Gravitt and Jane Langley as refernce
to the 1900 census where Martha states she was born in May
of 1839 if this is true she shows in the house hold of Alfred Gravitt in the 1840 Forsyth county census he shows
1 male child under 5 years of age and 1 female under 5 years of age and his wife and mother 1 female 20 to 30, 1 female 50 to 60. His brother Gilford Gravitt married Julia "Judah" Hendrix they list no children in the 1840 census.
However in the 1850 census Martha J. Gravitt shows up in Gilfords and Julia,s house along with Alfred and Gilford,s
mother Mary Hammond Gravitt and Julia,s mother Martha Hendrix. So these 2 moved from Alfred,s
home to Gilfords home between 1845 and 1850. The 1845 Forsyth county state census list,s 5 people in Alfred,s home. When Gilford Gravitt died in 1856 Julia requsted 12 month support for her and her children Martha was not listed as a child of hers. It has been said that she is there daughter but in the 1840 Forsyth county census they list no children. Also Alfred Gravitt married Andrew J. Fowler and
Martha J. Gravitt as referenced by the marrage License.
It has been said and carried down that Gilford Gravitt died
on a fox hunt when his horse fell on him. My family has lived in the Chatahoochee dist of Forsyth county for over 160 years. Tidwells Fowler's Gravitt's, Hendrix or Hindricks, Youngbloods, Shadburn's and many more old Forsyth countynty families.

Hi Wayne

I have also heard or suspected that Aaron and Thomas might be brothers to James and William. But the only proof I have is for James and William (pension records of their sons). They continue to be on my list of things to research when I have more time.

Please keep me posted if you happen to come across anything and I will do the same.
