The following information was extracted 7 June 2002 from microfilm of County Tax Rolls for Pontotoc County, Mississippi for year 1845, p. 34; microfilm located in Mississippi State Archives, Jackson Mississippi.. As far as I can tell, this is the first Wingo entry in this county (formed 1836).

Wingo, Simpson C paid for 1 white poll, owned 1 clock valued at $20, tax 50cents; believe that the white poll was for males aged 21-50yrs age

NOTE: county tax rolls from 1846 to 1858 were not available on this microfilm; Oliver Perry Wingo shows up on the 1859 tax roll as 1 white poll.

I extracted this Simpson C. Wingo entry as the name surprised me as I had not come across the name in this county before; I descend from Oliver Perry Wingo who was born in Spartanburg South Carolina and died in Pontotoc Co MS. In 1850 Oliver Perry Wingo was in Tishomingo Co MS and by 1860 until his death he resided in Pontotoc Co at Springville, between Pontotoc and Toccopola; he and wife Martha Brown are buried in Springville Cemetery. One son Thomas Jefferson Wingo was a physician in Toccopola. Oliver PerryWingo was son of Ransom Wingo and grandson of John Wingo of Spartanburg, SC. John Wingo was born in Amelia Co Virginia

I have downloaded the Wingo Ancestry from: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6365/wing_anc.html. You will find Simpson's line in it. (Maybe spelled Sampson
