I am seeking information on George W. Wyatt whose name appears on the roster of the 43rd GA Inf. Reg.-Co. I with the notation "name removed from roster". I believe he may have been disqualified from service due to ill health or diability. I also believe George W. Wyatt's wife may have been named Ann. The name Ann Wyatt is listed on the 1863 Forsyth Co. Salt List of widows of Confederate soldiers. So it would appear that George was able to serve in the CSA in some capacity and died in service and that his wife was living in Forsyth Co. These people are not on the Forsyth Co. 1860 census prior to the War and there is no marriage record for them in the county, either. I am trying to find out who they are because I have correspondence written in the 1860s concerning them, including George W. Wyatt's doctor's certification that he is unfit for CSA service. This correspondence was found among other letters/papers belonging to my late grandmother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Barton Smith who lived in Forsyth Co. from 1915 until her death in 1958. She was the daughter of James G. Barton and Angeline Hawkins Blackston Barton and the granddaughter of Uriah Hawkins and Margaret Cox Hawkins, some of the original settlers of the town of Cumming. I believe that these Wyatts must have some close connection to my great grandmother Angeline Hawkins Blackston Barton since she saved these letters, especially George Wyatt's military exemption. Would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who has any knowledge of anything at all related to these Wyatts.

Jean,
Since my previous posting I have found that, totally unknown to me, George Washington Wyatt was the first husband of my great grandmother Angeline E. Hawkins. Their marriage of August 15, 1858 was recorded in Cass/Bartow County. From letters written in the 1860s I have determined that George W. Wyatt had a sister named Mary Ann who married John Stroup and a brother A. (probably Andrew) Jackson Wyatt who married Helen M. Wadsworth on April 25, 1858 in Cass/Bartow Co. After being deemed physically unfit for service in the 43rd GA Infantry-Co. I (formed in Forsyth Co.), apparently George W. Wyatt was able to join Co. B of the State Forces for a time because I have his discharge due to physical disability dated November 15, 1862 (with a notation that it was recorded in Forsyth Co.). He must have died soon thereafter since I have a letter dated December 22, 1862 with a return address of Cass Co., GA written by George's sister Mary Ann Stroup to my great grandmother asking about George's death. I have looked at 1850 and 1860 census records for Cass Co. and have been unable to find a family that seems to fit the info. I have (sister Mary Ann, brother A. Jackson, etc.) for George W. Wyatt. Do you have any information at all on this George or his family? I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

Jean, We have corresponded before about this. Please see my detailed message to you on this board dated August, 2001. MY George Washington Wyatt was the first husband of my great grandmother, Angeline E. Hawkins of Forsyth Co., GA (not my great grandfather--I am from her third marriage). We were unaware of him and their marriage until discovering letters & documents pertaining to him that were in my late grandmother's possession, passed to her by her mother Angeline. They were married in Cass Co., GA on Aug. 15, 1858, so George would have most likely been born no later than 1840. I still do not know who his parents were, but his family was apparently living in Cass Co. in 1858 when he and Angeline married there. I also still do not know how she happened to marry in Cass Co. since she lived in Forsyth Co., which is some distance away. If there is any connection between your George & my George, I am unaware of it, especially since about 40 years or so separate their birth years. I believe it is just a coincidence that they both married Hawkinses. I have no information on anyone named Algus Hawkins, either.
