This is not my family but I have found a way to locate old newspapers by going to http://news.google.com/archivesearch
Not all newspapers are listed but Rome News Tribune is one of them. In this case, I just put in my search criteria as Clemones + Rome and got lots of hits. You will have to weed through them as several different newspapers will be listed. I did find 2 newspaper articles, one for William Clayton and one for Harold and an obit for Harold. I have attached them for you. There is plenty more to be found on Clemones in the Rome News Tribune. I saw lots of arrests and marriage announcements. The marriage announcements are a genealogists dream. They are full of information. Hope this helps you further your genealogy research. Kimberly

I am looking for information on a J.J. McCullough listed as buried in the Cave Spring Cemetery. I would like to know what details are on the tombstone and if there are any other McCulloughs buried with/ near him. I am looking for a J.J. McCullough killed in the Battle of Atlanta, July 22, 1864. He lived near Menlo, GA. I can't find a grave for him at home with other family or in the Atlanta cemeteries. Any possibility this is my guy? If anyone nearby is available to check this out for me I would appreciate it! Thanks!

We have a pretty good collection of books that record the burials at cemeteries. If he doesn't have a tombstone, he will not be listed, but maybe he does. I'll try to go by the library and check this week if still needed.
Tony Pope
pope1966@aol.com

I am looking for the cemetery in which my grandfather is buried. He died somewhere between 1927 and 1931. Other family members knew where he was located, but they have now passed away. Noone living knows where the cemetery is located, other than it is on a hillside outside of Rome. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for M B Stokes' ancestors

I have a M B Stokes from Georgia born abt 1872 married on February 2, 1892 in Floyd, Georgia to a Jessie Mae Whiteside from Illinois born abt 1876 (her parents were William Wesley Whiteside and Martha C. Lauderdale). MB & Jessie had the following children: Nellie, Charlie, Alice, JD and my grandmother Mattie. The first two children were born in Georgia and the last three in Alabama. I have found this family documented in 1880, 1892, 1910, 1920, have a family Bible, my grandmother's birth certificate, a pearl encrusted portrait of Mr. Stokes, and not one item has his name the same, i.e., Meredith Browning, Murdie, Merdia, Merlin, Merdin, Merdie, M B, etc.

In 1910 he is listed as a cottonmill worker in Etowah, Alabama. We know he had at least one brother who he went back "home" to nurse back to health later in life. He died when my grandmother was young and she never knew very much about his side of the family.

Would be willing to share all of the information I have with another relative/researcher along this line.

Nancy Elizabeth McIntyre Mathews
1495 Gray Street SE
Palm Bay, FL 32909
Scopoletus@aol.com

Mccray ?mother? Landers the only other info I have is that she had a sister Marion Louise (went by Louise)Mccray, and that she married my grandfather Frank Murphy and they had my dad Mike in NM in 1946. I verified her Dob through several resources and her birthdate is correct so that would have made her 15! when my dad was born.any info would be great!!

I found this obituary in the local paper in Hartwell, Georgia.

The Hartwell Sun, Hartwell, Georgia
Friday, 11 June 1886
Obituary
Mrs. Mary Sanders, wife of W. B. Sanders, and daughter of Benjamin Bobo, died May 6th, 1886. Age 65 years, 6 months and 6 days. The deceased was well known to many of the old citizens of Elbert and Hart. She was a pious and devoted christian, beloved by many friends and kindred in Vans Valley. Deeply mourned by the church to which she belonged and sadly missed by her kind husband and devoted children.

Mary Bobo Sanders is my GG Grandmother. I am trying to find the burial place of her and William B. Sanders. I believe it to be Vans Valley Church but I am not positive. Does anyone have any information on them? Their daughter, Octavia (b. 14 Sep 1860 - D. 28 Oct 1914) married L. W. Ray and they lived in Hart County, Georgia. Would love to correspond with anyone connected with this family.

Thanks,
Brenda Ray Harbin
I have no first name or place of birth.
I came across someone named Fannie Zuber born 1848 in Floyd Co GA, that might have been his wife. On her census it says she is a widow. But no name of husband or anything about him. I found Fannie with a son named Jorden or Jordan which is close to Jordon.
I don't even know for sure if Fannie even really fits into the picture, just guessing. She would fit the right time frame though.
Also I don't know if Jordon's father would be white, mullato or what. Jordon is listed on some census as mullato and on others as black.
Because of the time frame Jordon's father could have been white, by a slave owner, I have no idea. Just guessing.
Can anyone help me?
I appreciate any information.

Thank you
I am looking to further information I have on my cousin Emma C. Edge & cousin-in-law William P. Lovelace.

Emma C. EDGE Lovelace was born December 1854 Meriwether County, Georgia to my fourth great-uncle & aunt William & Margaret Catherine BOYD Edge (Aunt Margaret being the sister of my third great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth
'Mollie' BOYD McCrary) & died Unknown, married William sometime after the 1870 census for Spalding County, Georgia where Emma was living with our Uncle Joseph D. Boyd & Aunt Emily ALFORD Boyd (Emma was attending school in Griffin).

William P. Lovelace was born March 1849 Troup County, Georgia to John & Martha EMBRY Lovelace died 25 May 1930 Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. His father John was from North Carolina & came to Georgia in 1841, his parents were Amos & Tabitha TOMLINSON Lovelace.

Emma & William's children were:
John W. Lovelace
Lewis E. Lovelace born November 1875
Mattie Lovelace born March 1880
Thomas E. Lovelace born February 1882
Nellie M. Lovelace born August 1884
Lillian C. Lovelace born July 1892 died 16 February 1921, Never Married.
Lois C. Lovelace born February 1895

Census Records:
1880 - Rome, Floyd County, Georgia; Indexed as Loveleeu
1900 - Black Hall, Fulton County, Georgia
1910 - Coweta County, Georgia
1920 - Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia
1930 - Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia

Questions:
When did Emma die? I cannot seem to find her in Georgia's death records though I am certain she is there somewhere.

When was John born?

Who did the daughters wed?

Is there an obituary for any of these family members? Where are they buried?

Thank You for any Help,
Lena
Keith LH2006, I realize this is a really old query, but I am also a descendant of Milchum and Dicey, through their daughter, Martha Caroline. I would enjoy sharing information with you if possible. I'm not an Ancestry member -- is there a way we can communicate directly? Thanks.
