Col. William S. Butt, prominent Blue Ridge attorney, passed away early Friday morning, May 4th, at Copper Basin Hospital, following a stroke, which he suffered the day before. He was 82 years old.
Col. Butt was born in Morganton, Georgia, March 4, 1880, and was the son of John M. and Ruth Smith Butt. He received his early education at the Blue Ridge Seminary and graduated from Emory College in Oxford, Georgia, with an LLB degree. He was admitted to the bar June 12, 1901, and practiced law in Blue Ridge since that date. At the time of his death, he was senior partner in the law firm of Butt and Spence.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Frances Louise Fain Butt, to whom he was married in October, 1913; one daughter, Mrs. Frances B. Singer, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, William Fain Butt, Jacksonville, Ark.; one half-sister, Miss Bertha Stuart of Blue Ridge; two half-brothers, J. V. Stuart, Birmingham, Ala., Frank Stuart, Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren.
Interment in Resthaven Memorial Park.
