Hello. Need help finding Georgia descendants of James Walea d. abt 1837 Emanuel County, GA.. He had a plantation and a son named Severn. His oldest son, James S. was my gg grandfather and immigrated to South east Texas in 1834 w/wife Dicey Williams,( d. abt 1836) and 2 small children. James S. remarried Louise Elizabeth Peveto and had 10 more children. Spelling of name was changed to Waley. Would like to know what the history of the Georgia family is and if there are remaining descendants of Severn, etc. HELP!! Thank you.

I am not directly related to the Walea family but their property was near my Roberts family. I have been keeping watch of the Walea family in hopes of finding out something about my Roberts line. If you would like to keep in touch, contact me through my email.

Severn Walea was my GGGG grandfather. His daughter Margaret Walea Bunn was my ancestor. The original James/Severn Walea tract of land is still owned by a descendent. An interesting sidenote: James Walea was the first state representative elected from Emanuel County

Hello and thank you for the information . Could you tell me where that tract of land is located? Also, do you know of a will or probate for James Walea, father of Severn? I have looked on the internet to confirm the state representative claim but can find no proof. Do you have documented evidence of such an election? Thanks so much for your help.
Also looking for evidence of a John Williams, father of Dicey that James Walea who went to Texas married. He does not show up as their neighbor in Emanuel County census records.

Hello! I am descended from Severn Walea. Lt James Walea was actually his third son, Lt John G. and Private William Wesley both being older brothers. He was one of nine and the only one to migrate to Texas. I am in Austin right now doing research on another branch of my family. I would be glad to share info. kleighbrown@webtv.net

Severn had a son, John, born abt 1833 who is listed on Jennie stewart's death certificate as her father. Jenny's mother is listed as Virginia Hanberry. I can't find a marriage record for John Walea and Virginia or Jane, Hanberry. A cousin told me Jennie's mother was Indian, so if that is true, then she could not marry John Walea.Georgia laws said whites could only marry whites. That would explain why Jennie (Jane) listed her name as Jane Hanberry when she married Berry Stewart.Jennie and Berry had a daughter, Talitha Lavinia Stewart. She married Henry E. Edenfield. They had a son, Albert Lloyd Edenfield. He married Mary Gardner, and Albert and Mary are my parents.I have a tree on ancestry.com, Albert Lloyd Edenfield. I would like to share info with you. I am searching for anything I can find on Walea, Stewart and Hanberry.

John G. Walea died in December 1861 at Culpepper court House Virginia. He left no wife or children, according to records, but my ggrandmother's death certificate has him as her father.Jane (Jennie) Hanberry married Berry W. Stewart. Her parents never married. Rumors are she was part Indian, which would explain no marriage of her parents.I found his Civil War records on footnote.com.
