In a petiton to Gov. Brown in 1863 a request was made to form a militia to protect the city of Swainsboro.. James Grubb was to be commander with John Lamb 55 years of age; Thomas Lamb 45 years of age; and David T. Lamb (ordained minister of the gospel, 40 years of age) listed as possible members.
There was also a listing of people applying for liquor license in 1860....John A. Lamb "at his store in the 57th district"; John A. Lamb "at the store at Johnson's Mill"
