Have you seen the book called Emauel Memories 1776-1976 put out by the newspaper for the bicentennial? Is is a wonderful sourse of stories about the people of Emanuel Co. It is printed on newsprint paper and looks like a collection of articles. there are lots of pictures of folks and places. That is where I saw the article with the Mahaffey lady in it. My mother used to visit from Augusta. Her grandmother was Della Thompson, a seamstress in Swainsboro. She lived on North Main near the turn off to the city cemetery road. Mama used to tell me stories of life in Swainsboro. She said at one time all the mail was put in a box in a store uptown and you would walk up there twice a day and sort through it for your letters. It must have been a nice time....CJS
