In the book Footprints Along the Hoopee..about Emanuel county there is a mention of Charles Wigg a free black. There was a promissory note by him in the amount of $33.25 loaned by Rowan Johnson. There is also a listing of Charles Wigg, in a registry of free blacks 1853-1864 In 1854 he was listed as 66 years old and he had the occupation of seamstress (tailor???) There is a Polly Wigg (Swan) in 1854 also a seamstress, age35. There is a William Swan in 1855, a seamstress age 16 and Edward Thomas Swan, seamstress age 16.... Hope the helps..CJS
