We have just received the results on dna testing of a descendant of Benjamin Franklin Bohanan, b ca 1840 in Echols County, GA. We learned that Benjamin and his family are descendants of Duncan Bohanan (b ca 1640 in Scotland) who married Cecily Collmore in Barbados.

Hello:
My family hails from Statenville. My paternal grandmother was Pearl Bohannon (sp?) who was married to Riley M. Westberry.
Pearl's father was Benjamin. Ben had a big family and owned a tremendous amount of land. It is very hard to find him in any records, which doesn't make sense. Today, I visited www.dabroxson.com and see several cemetery records for ben Bohannon altho there are different spellings. Perhaps, I should have been looking for Bohannan.

My father said that Pearl's mother died when Pearl was very, very young.

Rob, did you ever find your Dunkin Bohanan from Echols County Georgia? There is a Bohanan family in Statenville, Echols County, that might be related. The earliest I can find any member of the Statenville family is in the 1860 census with a Sarah Bohanan(spelled incorrectly),widowed, and several children. This is my husband's family and I have traced them for several generations (thru the 1930 census). I have never been able to figure out who Sarah's husband was, and my husband's gggrandmother never married so he can't do the ydna test. However,we have recently submitted a family finder dna test and hopefully we'll connect to another Bohanan family.
Yes, there is a Methodist Church in Statenville and there is a cemetery, Statenville Cemetery, located at the edge of town. I found an obituary for my great grandmother in the Valdosta Daily Times archives (in the Valdosta library).

My great grandfather Sherreard Sheffield Kemp was a Methodist supply preacher in Statenville around 1896-97. My grandfather, Crawley Monroe Kemp was born there in 1897. We think the Rev. SS Kemp's mother, Ellen Ponsell Kemp, died in Statenville in 1896. I am looking for her grave. Are there Methodist Church cemeteries in Echols County? Is there a Statenville City Cemetery? Are there cemetery records compiled for Echols County? Was there a newspaper there in 1896? If so, is the information from that paper compiled anywhere. HELP!

Dear TCCox,

I realize that it has been three years since you posted your inquiry about Rosetta Wetherington, but hopefully, you are still at the same address and I can correspond with you about your family members. I have that Rosetta had six children: Wesley, Frankie, Cattie and Anna, who married the twin Cowart brothers, Owen, and Allen, respectively,Thomas& Eliza. Julie, Ola, Jesse and Janie were children born to Rosetta's husband, Thomas J. Johnson, and his second wife, Frances Green Johnson, widow of Thomas' brother, Jesse. Thomas and Cattie were twins, born in 1887. I would love to correspond with you, especially if you are a direct descendant of Rosetta Johnson. I look forward to hearing from you. Take care.
Sorry for your loss.

I had been researching a newspaper clipping that was about 18 years old. I put it away and just refound it. The information in the clipping was someone searching for a family member who had died over 40 years ago, (her father) and the lady was not well herself, but she had gotten a photo as well as the info in the local paper.

I filed it away, and recently discovered the filed article. I had found one of her family members in my locality recently and did not know how to find her or her family. A town in Ohio was mentioned, so I began by checking a map. No luck. Put a couple emails to newspapers, asking if they could help. It took several months, but the reporter who wrote the article emailed me. I gave him the info, and he forwarded it to her surviving daughter. Got a nice email from her family. They were so greatful.

Might give it a try.

Good luck.
E Godfrey

Doctor E. may be correct. Sindierilla is unusal? The family is in Brunswick in 1900 census. Clyde moved back to Brunswick and married here. Are they on the 1920 census?
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply. Everything adds up at Jane Echols who married Solomon Ray in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga was the daughter of John Echols and Lucy Anna Moore except that I can not find a record that shows that they had a daughter named Jane. Lucy Anna Moore died in 1816 I believe in Jasper co Georgia where Jane lived at the time. Solomon Ray died in 1813 in Jasper co Ga. John Echols died in I believe 1826 in Masison co Al and I saw his will on line but he died not mention a daughter named Jane in his will. Another researcher sent me an email saying she had seen a record showing that Jane was the daughter of John Echols and Lucy Anna Moore and when I emailed her and asked where she was able to find that info she never replied. Any help aprecaited. thanks, Ross

Many of the Register's were in Alabama, such as Garrard, Dothan, Slocomb, and parts of Florida any information would be helpful. They married Dowling's, Bogar's and Godwin in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The reason I am also searching is bcause we are having a BOGAR FAMILY REUNION in NEW JERSEY AUGUST 2007and I am searching for family. THANK YOU for whatever information you may have
