Thought I might could help you out a little. My husband's g/g/grandfather was William F. Knight who was married to Elizabeth Pollard (B. 1820 D. 27 Feb. 1895 in Early Co. Ga.) They were married 10 Jan. 1844. However, she was not the g/g/grandmother of our family since William was married to Sarah Jane Knight Knight (B. 1820 and married 15 Dec. 1839 in Tallapoosa, Ala.) prior to marrying Elizabeth. If you have any info you can share we would greatly appreciate all the help we can get. You can look at our tree "Knights A Plenty". We hope everyting is accurate but understand that everything as written is not quaranteed gospel as we have gotten the info from other trees, the internet and archives. Hope this helps.

Harvey and Judy Knight
jtknight13@hotmail.com

Is there anyone in Blakely, Early Co, GA that could and would be so kind as to go to the courthouse and lookup/copy the birth certificate and marriage license for Zachary A. Ball? He is my gggrandfather and have not been able to determine his fathers given name. Zachary was born 11 08 1845 in Blakely, Early Co, GA. He married Amanda Jane Douglass on 09 30 1874, in Blakely. Zachary's mother was Eliza Jane (last name unknown). Zachary's father died in 1849, after they moved to Henry Co, AL and I haven't been able to locate anything on him. Zachary's mother remarried a William A. Bottoms 12 30 1858 in Early Co, GA. He died in the Civil War in Richmond, VA.
Zachary served in Company A, 51st Regiment Early Co. "Early Voulnteers". In the enlistment records he is listed as Jack Ball-- Born 1845 in Early Co., GA. Entered service at Blakely, GA in 1862. GA Regiment, Dunwoody Company. Continued until close of the war May 1865.
I am unable to come to GA at this time to look up any of these records myself as I am undergoing a second round of chemotherapy. Any and all help and or information would be greatly appreciated. My direct email is now bjwidjet@cox.net; not sShoes.
Thanks, Betty

William E. WOLF 1918-2009 b. Damascus, Georgia

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for William E. Wolf Sr., 90, who passed on to eternal peace on July 3, 2009 at his home with loved ones surrounding his bedside.
Bill was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Damascus, Ga., the son of Charles and Jannie Douglas Wolf.
He was a graduate of East High School and went on to pursue his education at Youngstown State University, graduating in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree in Art Education. He did his student teaching at his alma mater and later pursued a career at the Youngstown Main Post Office, and retired after 30 years of service in 1978. Bill represented the Youngstown Postal Service and worked as a liaison, representing the workers as an Equal Opportunity Facilitator.
William loved life and enjoyed artwork and at one time pursued his artistic genius by working as an understudy in the Traylor/Wolf Art Studio in the 1950s.
Still pursing his love of art, painting, mosaic tile and carpentry work, he still managed to work two jobs and provide his family with all the necessary provisions, above and beyond the call of fatherhood and husbandry. A legend in his own light, he counseled many people, did some teaching seminars at home and some speaking engagements at various organizations and spread good news whenever he got an opportunity to do so.

His wife, the former Christine McElroy, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1939, passed away in Oct. of 2000, she was truly the love of his life.
He was a devoted husband, father and neighbor.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dorothy V. Anderson, Nelson D., Herman J. and Dian C. King, with whom he made his home, all of Youngstown, Ohio; Dennis L. of New York, David C. (Delores) of Rocky River, Ohio; Gregory M. of New York and Eva/Asha (Toni/Abasi) Hill of Atlanta; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine; a son, William E. Wolf Jr., who passed away in 1996; and nine brothers and sisters. He was the last living member of his family.
The Wolf family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.
I don't follow the Urqharts per se; I have some data on them in my database only because YT married my Mary Ann Grier. There are certainly some conflicting data:

EARLY COUNTY, GA - MILITARY Co. A 51st Regiment Early Volunteers: Urquhart, Yelverton T. -- Private - March 4, 1862. Discharged January 12, 1863.

1864 GA Militia census Early County Y.T. Urquhart 29 years Physician b GA; exempted because he is a MD and a JP.

So does this mean it's the same YT that was drafted in '62, discharged in '63, served as a PVT and in '64 came up for the draft again but exempted because meantime he had acquired physician skills?

Could there be 2 YTs of the same age living in Early County at the same time?

I have YT being the son of Alexander Haywood Urqhart and Althea Knight and they have moved from Talapoosa County, AL to Early County:
1850 Tallapoosa County, AL census Alexander Haywood Urquhart 57 b NC, Althea 43 b GA, Yelvington T. 16 b GA.
1870 Early County, GA census Yelvington Urquhart (misspelled Urquhash in the transcription) is a physician age 35 b GA, Mary Ann is 33 b GA, Lou 12 b GA, Rebecca 10 b GA, Althea, YTs mother, is living with them, is 63 b GA.

I can't find any record of YT and Mary Ann having a daughter named Mary Ann; Maybe you confuse this with YT's wife?

I also can't find a record of the Early County YT's father baing Samuel; Do you have data please?

I am just begining to do a little research on the Urquhart family. My connection is that Y. T. Urquhart is my grandmothers grandfather. We are from Early County. I have a copy of a photo. of Y. T. and it states that he was a doctor. I so far have not verified this , although I have found info. that the community of Urquhart in Early county was named after Dr. J. Q. Urquhart. My grandmothers mother was listed as Lou Urquhart, could this be the one whose name is unclear on census? Lou Urquhart married into the Horne (horn) family, i have his name but not available now.If you have any other info. on Y. T. OR J.Q. I would appreciate your help. Thanks,Joe Whatley

I have been researching my main line EVANS for many years in Twiggs County. All my dead ends are in Twiggs. I know that they married into the Crosby and VANN families. Haven't posted here in a long time and I noticed some new people so I thought I would try again. Also some of my Evans moved into Bibb County around the 1890's and later into Jones County.
ESPECIALLY interested in the family of David and Obediah Evans on the 1850 and 1860 census. Rufus Evans was my ggrandfather. I am probably related to every EVANS in Twiggs County and Jones County.

Hello,

I am hoping you can help me. If I am correct Elizabeth Pickle was the daugher of Shelton Pickle and Sarah Bullock of Early Co. GA. I believe Sarah to be the sister of my husbands gg grandfather, John Bullock. Some researchers believe Sarah to be the daughter of Joseph and Martha Bullock of Decatur Co. GA, I do not. I believe her to be the daughter of Jeptha and Ada Bullock of Early Co., Jeptha and Ada were neighbors of the Pickles in the Cuba area. I also have copied pages of the Early co. History Book which lists the genealogy of the Pickles. Also have the census records for that time period.

They had 9 children-fred , James, William, Wallace,Addie lou, Doris,Johnny Pearl, Eddie, & John Wesley. They split up and Ada moved with the kids to South Florida.

Ada was supposedly a daughter of Mitch and Mary Hutchins( hutchings, hutcheons) one of 25 kids. Mithc was also a well to do sharecropper in Clay/Early. Does anyone have any info?

I wonder if the marriage date was changed to "cover" the birth of a children before 1900. There is a Laura Widner age 5, born Dec 1896, on the 1900 Early Cty census listed as niece in the hh of Orval and Minnie Chewing with Emily Chewing, Mother. and then in 1910 in hh of Loreua B and Collier Hammond. In the 1910 census listed with the family is an Emily Chewing mother in law, and Ed??? Shanks, uncle.

Also, this Laura could be by Zacheous first wife, but that also makes the 1894 marriage date wrong if they were married when Laura was born. Laura, wife of Zack., gives a birthdate of July 1882, that would have made her age 12 marrying a 22 yr old

The family is in Miller County in 1920. The only one I could find in 1930 was Carlton.
Looks like Carlton is in Miller County in 1930 married to an Edna.

Zacheous E. Widner born July 1871 to Jasper N. & Sally Widner, married Laura CHEWNING, born about 1878 to Jesse & Emily SHANKS Chewning, in 1900.
Their children were:
Laura Widner born about 1885 (child by Zach’s first wife)
Mattie May Widner born about 1901
Lizzie M. Widner born about 1904
Carlton E. Widner born about 1906
Clarabelle B.
Do you have any more info on the Hutchins family? I am looking for info on my great great grandmother Jospehine Hutchings or Hutchins. She married Gus Stringer. Possibly had a sister Amanda that married Jospeh Powell and possible another sister of unknown name that married into the George family.

Also...do you know of any connection between the Hutchings and the Everettes. Specifically an Ivory Everette who was a preacher.

not sure if you still check this...I'm researching the Stringer surname in Early county. My grandmother who is 89 vaguely remembers there being a connection between the Stringer, George, and Hutchins (or Hutchinson) families.

Gus and Jospehine Stringer born in the 1860s are my road blocks at this point. Jospehine's maiden name was either Hutchins or Everette.

Early County was divided into several other counties in 1854. Any census after 1854 would place them in another county. Have you tried Miller, Calhoun, Clay, Baker Counties?
